Guest PlatypusFool Report post Posted March 20, 2002 Strong Style Tapes has just got the Dreamslam tapes in, and I neeeeeeeeed to find a review of them to refresh my memory on what they are like. Preferably a review with a lot of play by play as well, so I know what to expect when I watch the tapes. Any ideas? Taking into consideration that cherrybabe.com appears to be down... Guest Jubuki Report post Posted March 20, 2002 April 2 & 3, I'll be putting them on my site...then again, I don't care for PBP and I probably "think too much"...but they will be there.
Guest PlatypusFool Report post Posted March 20, 2002 no need for the snide comments Chris, its just a difference of opinion.
Guest wolverine Report post Posted March 21, 2002 DS1 kicks major ass. The intensity of Hokuto-Kandori is amazing. DS2 I'm not as high on, but the main event is great, but not nearly as good as their first match.
Guest PlatypusFool Report post Posted March 21, 2002 But what kind of stuff is it? I mean, is it 'strong style'? 'Kings road'? Lucharesu? Hardcore? Sleaze?
Guest Tim Cooke Report post Posted March 21, 2002 "is it 'strong style'? 'Kings road'? Lucharesu? Hardcore? Sleaze?" It's Joshi. Plain and Simple. It can't be "Strong Style" or "King's Road" because it isn't New Japan or All Japan wrestlers. It sure as #### isn't Indy Sleaze. The Dreamslams aren't Lucharesu, Arison stuff would come closest to that. But considering that the term Lucharesu is a contradiction in itself, I would have to say Arison is just Joshi too. Watch the shows and find out for yourself. As the old saying goes, "Your never go to know if you like it or not, unless you try it." Tim
Guest PlatypusFool Report post Posted March 21, 2002 Well im gonna get my grubby hands on it cos everyone worships it and i need to see it whatever style it is. I was just wondering if their style compared to any of the male heavyweights and what the things are like in general. No need to shout at me mind, but thats people who think too much for you... Guest Tim Cooke Report post Posted March 21, 2002 "I was just wondering if their style compared to any of the male heavyweights and what the things are like in general." Joshi is a totally different creature. New Japan Juniors, WCW Cruiserweights, Michinoku Pro and Toryumon guys all are similiar. New Japan heavies are similiar to the 70/80's US style with submission work early on, but then NJ evolves with high spots at the end. AJPW is kind of in its own category. Joshi and Lucha compare to me for just one reason......they are totally different from all the other wrestling that I have seen, yet I still don't fully understand what they are all about....especially with Lucha. The first time I watched Joshi, I was expecting a mixture of lightweight flying with some AJPW characteristics thrown in. I was dead wrong. I don't know how to describe Joshi other than to call it unique and different from any other things I have seen in many ventures in Professional Wrestling. Guest MRFTW Report post Posted March 22, 2002 You just sort of get a little bit of everything in joshi. That about sums it up.
Guest PlatypusFool Report post Posted March 22, 2002 fair enough, thats the best explanation ive ever heard for what joshi is like, i guess ill just get dreamslam 1 and see for myself
Guest MRFTW Report post Posted March 22, 2002 Though not as good as one, if you've got the money two's definatly worth getting as well. here's some reviews http://hometown.aol.com/puroresu1king/drmslm1.htm http://hometown.aol.com/puroresu1king/drmslm2.htm
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted March 23, 2002 And while we are on the subject, another excellent Joshi card is the Big Egg Universe 11/20/94 show. I own both Dreamslams and love both of them but the 11/20/94 show is so much fun to watch
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted March 25, 2002 I watched the last 3 matches of DreamSlam II last night (I thought I had a porn tape in the VCR, and I was too lazy to change it when I saw it was DreamSlam), and yeah, it's good stuff. I believe the main event was the Observer's Match of the Year for 1993.
Guest wolverine Report post Posted March 26, 2002 "I believe the main event was the Observer's Match of the Year for 1993." It was, and it didn't deserve it. But I've beaten that topic to death on another board....
Guest Report post Posted March 27, 2002 I mean, is it 'strong style'? 'Kings road'? Lucharesu? Hardcore? Sleaze? Can someone tell me what those styles are? I would like to know.
Guest PlatypusFool Report post Posted March 29, 2002 'Strong style' seems to be what the NJPW style is called. 'Kings road' seems to be what the AJPW style is called. 'Lucheresu' is a mixture of mexican style high flying and spots with Japanese wrestlers and psychology e.g Toryumon. 'Hardcore' is, obviously, the combination of wrestling with weapondary e.g FMW. 'Sleaze'... well im not entirely sure, I think it's pretty much the same as hardcore.
Guest MRFTW Report post Posted March 29, 2002 Sleaze just referes to indy wrestlers with weird and or stupid gimicks i believe
