Guest Karnage Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 So, where does everyone here rent their movies at? For me, it's usually Rogers since they had this Gift Box thing which made rentals really cheap and they ocassionally send free rentals via e-mail. I go to Blockbuster sometimes, but I never bothered getting a Rewards card yet.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 I've stopped renting from those places. I hate renting VHS tapes cause no one seems to clean their VCRs, last tape I rented almost messed up my machine. And I don't rent DVDs cause no one takes care of them...unless you're the first or second person to rent the DVD it's already scratched to hell and won't play. Plus Blockbuster is just WAY too expensive.
Guest BifEverchad Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 I go to Blockbuster and Jumbo Video.
Guest Zero_Cool Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 I go to blockbuster..but it's just better to trade dvds with friends. Blockbuster fines you up the ass if you don't get that thing in on time...almost charge you a new rental.
Guest RepoMan Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 BB is a fucking rip off, so I try to support independent stores or local chains when possible, but there selection rearly comes close to BB.
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 Anyone try Netflix ? I'm considering it.
Guest starvenger Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 Currently I'm going to Hollywood Video. They had coupons where you could get rentals for $1 each, so how can you say no? The thing with Blockbuster is that not all their DVDs are widescreen, so if you're picky about that (like me) be careful. The unlimited rental option is pretty sweet - I do it every 3-4 months or so...
Guest Bosstones Fan Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 I go to Blockbuster, but, believe me, it isn't by choice. Blockbuster is the ONLY video store that's safe to walk into after 8:00 at night(i.e. no burglar bars on the windows, actual working lights in the parking lot) within 5 miles of my house, so I'm pretty much screwed. I sorely miss a place called Video City where my parents live. That store was a little mom and pop store, but they had EVERYTHING you could ever want. That includes just about every WWF show from 1989-present, along with tons of WCW stuff.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 I just go to Blockbuster because it is convenient. I have never had a problem with scratched DVDs though, or with getting widescreen.
Guest razazteca Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 Blockbuster and Hollywood Video for commercial stuff. The local mom and pop place has porn which is cheaper than both Blockbuster and Hollywood.
Guest hardyz1 Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 My local grocery store rents DVD's and VHS tapes (and a few video games) and I rent from there because anywhere else is a half hour away. Selection is bad, but most new release DVDs come in. The touble with renting from here is that there is no room for expansion, thus to make room for new movies ya gotta get rid of old ones. Just rented One Hour Photo yesterday. Fucking rip off. $2.65 for one damn day.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 BB and HV -- depends on what I have coupons for...
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 Netflix? Legit? Fast Delivery? Anyone?
Guest razazteca Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 Isnt Netflex just the internet division of Hollywood Video or Warehouse Music? I have seen used DVDs from Netflex at Warehouse Music before.
Guest Max Danger Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 100th Post! Yay! And I've been hanging around the Rantsylvania/Smarks/Smartmarks forums(it's all one long evolution) since the Delphi forums(don't know if anyone remembers those), and this is the most I've accumulated. More now than the total of all the older boards combined. Anyway, the only thing my city has, as far as big chains go, would be Movie Gallery. I don't rent DVDs though, I just buy 'em. I know what I like, so I just get those. But since all my money now goes towards my car, I've had to stop buying video games and renting them. So that's where I go. There's a couple of other local places(JC's Movin' Movies, two of 'em, one in my city here, and another in the next city over, which is like a ten minute drive). They have just as good a selection, as far as movies go, but again, don't rent 'em, so I have no use in going there. The nearest Blockbuster and Hollywood Video would be thirty minutes away and I don't crave the need to rent a video game badly enough to drive thirty miles to get one, ya know?
Guest Crazy Dan Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 The only two places I can go to is Blockbuster and Hollywood video. Mostly I go to Blockbuster because it is closest to me.
Guest Lord of The Curry Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 I go to Rogers usually. I knew there was something about you I liked! (I work at a Rogers near Toronto).
Guest Slingshot Suplex Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 A place called Downtown Video....they have a huge selection of old movies for $1-2. They even have wrestling circa 1983-84 including what looks like an original Starrcade: The Gathering. They have the new releases too but not more than 2 or 3 of each so it's tough to find them in sometimes. A place called Movie Gallery.More expensive but a bigger selection of new releases. I hate the "5 day rental for more money " scam.
Guest MaxPower27 Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 My mom goes to Blockbuster, I only go every once in a while to attempt to buy some of their old wrestling tapes. Usually, I just go to Hollywood Video, though I hate renting videos/DVD's, because I have a horrible memory and forget to return them. The last time, my late charge at Hollywood was something like $25. Usually, I just buy cheap DVD's at Best Buy that I think I might like.
Guest converge241 Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 always a second tier video store (no major chain) the people who worjk there seem to care more better deals they have porn
Guest starvenger Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 they have porn Ah, a man with priorities...
cawthon777 Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 There is a Hollywood Video and Video Update nearby but Blockbuster always has the best selection when it comes to pre-2002 movies.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 ah, Video Update. There was one near a Home Depot that was close to my house, but it closed down. This was back when I was still renting VHS, so this place was great, cause they had a lot of the WCW payperviews that I missed, and tons of b-horror movies. But they closed for whatever reason, so I go to HV.
Guest redbaron51 Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 My Aunt is the manager at Blockbuster...I go there when she is working though, other than that, Jumbo Video
Guest EQ Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 Blockbuster is where I go to rent movies. They are a little on the expensive side, but seeing as how I only rent a movie maybe once every 3 months, I put up with it. Their selection is much better than the small store by me.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 I used to go to a mom-&-pop store called Video Mania that was only a mile or two from my house, so I could walk there with ease. Movies for $1, New Releases for $3, and games for $2.50. They had lots of old-school crap, too, like TONS of Troma flicks, as well as every WrestleMania until WM16 (due to the store closing shortly after). Now I go to Hollywood Video. Has a somewhat larger selection, but the pretty obscure movies I really want to see (Gummo comes to mind) that my friends have told me about (or I've read about) are nowhere to be found.
Guest godthedog Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 i cannot emphasize enough how much blockbuster sucks. i can't even remember what their non-new release prices are, but their selection is never above "kind of shitty." i saw all the movies i wanted to see that are available there a while ago. hollywood video is quite a bit better. they've got a pretty good beginner's selection of foreign & cult movies. haven't been there in a long ass time either, though, cause i have... vision video, which is a godsend. $1.50 for non-new releases, 5 days. and they have a 5 movies/5 days/5 dollars deal that i take advantage of every weekend. and their selection is pretty damn humbling. i don't know what i'll do when i have to move away from athens.
Guest C.H.U.D. Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 I manage a mom & pop video store here in Toronto, so I never rent anything. The best thing is, new releases come in a week early, so I watch 'em all before they go out for rent. I hardly ever go to the theatre anymore, since I can watch everything for free. I always have horror/sci-fi movies playing on the TV at work, but if it's slow enough, I can actually sit down and watch new movies. I usually get a new movie in every Thursday and Sunday (which are always slow). Last week I watched I Spy & Roger Dodger. Yes, getting paid to watch movies does rule.
