Guest TheGregWitul Report post Posted March 19, 2003 It takes about a minute to load...That's pretty much everything, although I am going to a record store tommorow to check out a few titles, and have a stack of artists that I am planning on checking out in the near future (So the list will indeed grow)...So, what would you rate it? What am I missing? Reviews, thoughts, whatever, take a look and give me some feedback... LINK: http://www.cd-tracker.com/item_list_v2.asp?UserID=3767 NOTES: The 'want' section contains cds I already own. I used the import option and found out that the first choice is 'wants' and not 'has', so don't even bother looking at that, I have to find a way to delete it... j. Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted March 19, 2003 Now how can someone have that much Elvis Costello and not have "Get Happy"
Guest TheGregWitul Report post Posted March 19, 2003 I've been meaning to pick up 'Get Happy' for quite some time now, although it has slipped from thought when I am searching for cds. It's available as a two disc Rhino release, correct? I've heard a lot of great things about the two disc remasters (The Costello albums I own are the Ryko releases, with a ton of bonus tracks (Sometimes more than the actual album) but all one disc collections.) How do the Rhino releases compare to the Ryko ones? Is it worth it to upgrade? j.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted March 19, 2003 i'm alright with your bowie fandom (space oddity until diamond dogs is prolly one of the greatest periods for any artist ever) but you have way too many bowie cd's for it to mean anything. you don't have all of the beatles' releases there's no reason to own the best of the doors and essential doors if you have all 6 studio albums no flaming lips 'transmission from the stallite heart' your elton john collection could definitely use captain fantastic no alice cooper??? for shame you could prolly pick up the chi lites greatest hits and add a few more smiles to your day. ---overall, a really nice collection. it mirrors mine in some respects although you have more current cd's than i do. the amount of cds is about the same but my oldies and classic rock edge is a little more than yours. Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted March 19, 2003 There's some bad stuff in there, but --goddamn! overall that collection is pretty unassailable. Off the top of my head, stuff I'd recommend Modest Mouse Built to Spill more Fugazi Neutral Milk Hotel In the Aeroplane over the sea Frank Zappa and the mother of invention's second album (can't remember the title) Operation Ivy Sonic youth Sister Delgados Clinic Internal Wrangler Sebadoh III Guided by Voices Big Black Husker Du New day Rising Minutemen Double Nickels on the Dime Pere Ubu Terminal Tower Belle and Sebastian Tigermilk ...that's all I can think of at the moment. Guest TheGregWitul Report post Posted March 19, 2003 The 'Essential Doors' came with the Box Set (All the studio recordings) and was a sample of another set of rare tracks. The 'Best Of' I had a long time before I purchased the box set... I'm a huge Bowie mark, so I do have a lkot of Bowie. A ton of them are live/unreleased bootlegs I picked up for a nice price...Oh, and by the way, Bowie's best period would be from 'The Man Who Sold The World' up until 'Scary Monsters'...It is quite hard for any artist to top that recording period, as he did a bit of everything, was a huge influence, produced and worked on the recordings of several artists (Lou Reed, Mott The Hopple, Iggy Pop, etc) and flat out released great music (Although some of 'Young Americans' and a good deal of 'Pin Ups' is lower than average.) Cooper is another artist I've been meaing to look into. I've heard several of his albums, however I have yet to pick one up. I've made a 70's rock mix that featured Coop, but that's really about it. I plan to at least check out an album or two of his in the future... I may be able to score the complete Beatles collection from my local record store (It's an import from the UK that has all of their albums and comes with a display case) but I'll have to check my budgets out and see what I can do... j. Guest TheGregWitul Report post Posted March 19, 2003 "Neutral Milk Hotel In the Aeroplane over the sea" I have this album and enjoy it very much. I must of forgot to add it to the list (Or labeled it incorrectly) "Frank Zappa and the mother of invention's second album (can't remember the title)" The Zappa Mp3 mix has several albums on it, I have to find some time to burn them to seperate discs... "Delgados Big Black Husker Du New day Rising Minutemen Double Nickels on the Dime Pere Ubu Terminal Tower Belle and Sebastian Tigermilk" I plan on getting the albums listed above in a few days. They have been on my list to get, at the near top, along with a few other artists (Todd Rundgren, The Soft Boys, Echo and The Bunneymen, Big Star's last album, Adam Ant (His first release, which is OOP), Jane's Addiction, and a few more). I've heard the new Delgados album and enjoy it, and downloaded some Pere Ubu and Minutemen the other day, but haven't had the chance to burn them yet... I have 'Murmur', but not 'Document' or the others listed. I like their more commercial sound (Automatic For The People is my favorite REM album) but I'll have to look into 'Document'... j. j. "love it to death", "billion dollar babies", and "welcome to my nightmare". you may or may not dig the fuck out of it like I have but it really represents what his music should be rather than the pap that he released in the mid 80's. Guest Brian Report post Posted March 19, 2003 That's a lot of CD's. Since I see you have some Jazz, go after Brubeck's "Time Out". Most amazing album I've heard, from any perspective in any genre. The use of a totally abstract time signature for Western music is amazing. Really, we need more Jazz discussion around here since I've just started to get into it. Guest Eyeball Kid Report post Posted March 20, 2003 So I gave your list a more thorough examination, and there isn't much I can say outside of suggesting that you fill in a lot of the gaps you have for certain artists. You need more XTC! You need Ornette Coleman's The Shape of Jazz to Come (which I happen to be listening to at this moment, so yay)! I WANT YOUR MILES DAVIS COLLECTION! I noticed no Slint. Spiderland is a must, man.

Guest TheGregWitul Report post Posted March 20, 2003 Thanks for the recs, I have a nice little list or albums to check out... I have 'Time Out' by Brubeck (It's somewhere on the list) and I do find it to be an amazing listen. I also have 'The Shape Of Jazz To Come', so if that is missing from my list, it's probably due to the fact that it's at my uncles house. However, as is the same with 'Time Out', 'The Shape Of...' is another great album... I do have some crap on there, but a lot of albums I pick up, I get for pennies on the dollar. Artists like Ja Rule and Limp Bizkit come into my collection from my younger brother or from work (Where we divy up albums at times in a draft like format, so I am stuck with some stinkers.) Some other artists that don't receive much love (Kylie, for example) I am indeed a HUGE fan of, and have been importing her stuff into the US, until she broke the states last year. The one positive about having some subpar material in my collection, is when I knock a bad band and someone jumps on my case, as if I never heard anything but the singles, I can kindly inform them that I do indeed have all of their material, however I still think it sucks (This can be said for Ja Rule and Limp Bizkit, for example). Anyways, I have some nice credit for the local record store, so this weekend I'll check out some recs on the list and let you guys know what I think. Keep the recs. coming, I really appreciate it... And, Inc., I got REALLY lucky in putting that Davis collection together (The same can kinda be said with Bowie) I got a lot of those double disc for $8-12, and straight from stores like Borders or Media Play (No used Davis or Bowie cds in my collection, well, except for Tin Machine II and Tin Machine Live). I do rec. picking up as much Miles Davis as possible. The man was an absolute genius (Hell, he even put out a killer album, 'Aura', in the 80's, when he was coasting on his legacy) and every one of his recordings sounds fresh and exciting... j. Guest Brian Report post Posted March 20, 2003 Totally agreed with Davis. He doesn't have the chops of a Gillepsie but man did he have a way of putting thing together and playing those notes.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 20, 2003 I'm sure this will set some of you purists(not meant in a bad way) off. I actually sold all of my CD's and put them all on a computer that's hooked into my home stereo and it's sole use is to play music on. I'm not going to look through roughly 5000 mp3s to give a list of artists.
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted March 20, 2003 I would do that, but I don't want to waste that much hard drive space.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 20, 2003 Get a bigger HD. 5000 only takes up 20 gigs. 60 or 80 gig HDs are affordable.

Guest TheGregWitul Report post Posted March 28, 2003 I've used some of my credit at the record shop and picked up some new titles. I've taken some recs. into consideration (Slint, Costello, Delgados) and stocked up on some that I had on my own list (The Jam, Buzzcocks, Neil Hamburger, Rick James, Chic, etc.). The current number is at 1,316 cds. I appreciate the recs., feel free to suggest some more... j.
