This is my first official post on this board, so don't haze me :( Anyhoo, will Metallica's upcoming album have more of a polished sound like Re-Load or gritty like old school Metallica? I hope its a blend of both

I have a feeling that it's going to receive a ton of hype only to flop miserably. I guarantee you that the videos will be played on TRL so all of the nu-metal kids can act like they're hard and request it. Carson will say "Big ups to Metallica for making the best album of the year...it never leaves my CD player," 500 times, and it will probably do very well commercially. But critically? Two stars. But I'm wishing....hoping...praying....that this album will rock and rock hard. I just hope I don't get disappointed.

Kerrang! magazine said that it was very good and much better than Load/Reload. They usually are good evaluators of loud rock, so I'm hoping they are right this time.

James vocals have sounded like absolute shit for a while but a lil studio magic will fix that.

I'm more afraid of them TRYING to be old Tallica and proceding to face plant themselves in a pile of shit. It could be a very embrassing record or a very surprisingly decent record. In any case, it will sell.

I like load so in theoretically if this is better than Load...then its better than AJFA (not a solid album IMO)

Im with justsoyouknow on this one. Metallica seem to be trying to go back to thrash/speed metal, and doing so will just result in humiliation.

Firstly because they didn't have to TRY when they were actually making those album's in the 80's, and secondly, any time a band goes backwards instead of forwards it either becomes boring, or destroys a legacy.

In this case, Lars could do both. Newsted has stated Lars rarely practised and has lost his edge, James has been lacking in the vocals department and the entire Metallica name has become so commercialised it's sickening how different they're outlook and opinions are NOW as opposed to how they were in the 80's, where they refused to even make video clips due to the fact they never wanted to sell out.

They've become hypocritical and over-done, however i'll still buy the album regardless, so im sure Lars doesnt give a shit what anybody says....just as long as he makes money off it.

I wish Metallica would have done what Slayer did, slowed down the speed, but kept the hard gritty edge to their music. I mean I loved Slayer's thrash days, but they found a way to slow the speed part down without going soft.

By the way, that's not James singing on the new tracks, it's Ja Rule.

Jatallica lives, BABYGURRRRRRRRRRL.

I've liked the few demo's I've downloaded ("Serenade Of Fire," "Serenade Of Fire II," "ZoomPod," "A Time For Hate," and "Valley Of Misery" ), so I'll buy the album. Judging by those demo's, the album will basically be like a bridge between The Black Album and Load, with some minor elements of Kill 'Em All thrown in as well (the single "breakdown" in "A Time For Hate" reminds me of Kill 'Em All's unpolished edge).

I love "...and justice for all" it just seems too short, which is strange since time wise it's one of their longest albums.

Oh god, I hadn't heard anything about that so i figured that Ja Rule did it, it blew and Lars just tried to forget he even considering meshing rap with rock n' roll.

I hate you Lars.

In the Woodstock 94 CD, James sounds like Eric Cartman.

I believe the CD will be good, but I am not sure if it will sell. The clips I've heard from their studio site make it seem like the album will be And Justice for All-esque tempo changes, with downtuned guitars. It will be an interesting record.

Metallica has already pissed me off so bad with Reload that I don't think I will ever buy another Metallica album.... I personally don't think they can go back to their sound from the black album and before. :(
