Guest Nevermortal Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 Whatever happened to these guys? They were like Korn's pet project, and then they just dropped from existence for whatever reason. Methinks that they got replaced by Deadsy, because they sound virtually the same.
Guest Zero_Cool Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 I remember talking about how MTV cut them off at the knees. I mean, they had the hit with their cover on New Order and were on those rock n jock things..but then MTV didn't promote their second album at all, which was better than their first, coincidently. Eh, they just got lost in the shuffle, really. Also, Orgy's "Vapor Transmission", and Deadsy's "Commencement" do sound a lot alike...except that Deadsy's cover of "Tom Sawyer" is better than Orgy's "Blue Monday".
Guest evenflowDDT Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 Orgy had a second album? I remember I picked up both the "Blue Monday" and "Stitches" singles, and downloaded "Dreams in Digital". Not bad stuff... not unique or terribly terribly great, but not bad at all.
Guest Steviekick Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 To be honest, Orgy and Deadsy were both Korn's pet projects starting at the same time. Deadsy wound up getting their debut album Commencement delayed so long for legal reasons and for signing record deals that they tried to get out of so that they could be on Korn's elementree label. In my opinion, everyone just discounted Orgy as a one hit wonder due to their "blue monday" cover. Especially their record label, which lead to them getting no radio or music video promotion at all. They were lucky that they were part of Korn's kliq, because they toured with them when the second album came out in support of it. Otherwise they would have gotten no promotion at all.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 I wasn't overly impressed with Orgy, I got the cd cause I liked the "Blue Monday" cover, nothing else did anything for me though.
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 Orgy, to me, was a band of dudes who listened to New Wave and stuff a lot when they were younger, liked Egyptian culture, and had a lot of hard rock influence all of a sudden at the end of the 80s. They had a very interesting blend of hard stuff with synthesizers and stuff. HOWEVER: They were such a blatant whiny teenager band, once you listened to the lyrics. So many allusions to football players and other popular people getting theirs, and peppered with the usual words used by pseudo-intellectual goths and freaks. It got a little annoying, and was much more prevalent on their second album, which was NOT better than the first. "Revival" ruled.
Guest Mindless_Aggression Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 The lead singer of Orgy was actually in Deadsy for a while. I personally hear a lot of difference in the bands as Deadsy comes off as a complete 80's band on a lot of their stuff, where as Orgy just sounds like another tortured nu metal band who uses synths instead of DJs.
Guest Respect The 'Taker Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 Not only have Orgy released 2 albums, but they are currently working on a new one. I've been a pretty big fan of their's since they released Blue Monday, which is about the beginning of their career. Extremely under-rated and talented. The lead singer has the perfect voice for the glitzy-glam-rock his band pummels out and I feel it is only a matter of time before they hit their spot and blow everyone else away. It'll happen... UYI
Guest Respect The 'Taker Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 Huh? I thought you LIKED Michael Jackson? Ugh...i hate you Flyboy..so very, very much. UYI
Guest converge241 Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 Vapor Transmission is one of the best, and most underated albums ever Candyass is not bad either they are very good live as well saw them on the 1st family values and then with Videodrone and Dope opening up on their headlining tour for candyass they are working on the the third and i will certainly buy it but their commercial success is dead in the water
Guest Flyboy Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 Huh? I thought you LIKED Michael Jackson? I do. So I was calling the kettle black.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 ...no comment, re: "Flyboy calling the kettle black"... Orgy's not too bad. They have enough of the New Wave vibe for me to appreciate their music, but the lyrics are typical whiny nu-metal shite. Jay Gordon has a nice voice that goes with the music just fine, however.
Guest Steviekick Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 I saw Deadsy live this fall. They were very weird but they rocked. Definitely reccommended
Guest converge241 Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 "key to grammercy park" by Deadsy is nutty (thats a good thing)
