Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted March 20, 2003 Hey guys, I know I don't contribute to the comic book thread much. I use to collect comics and stopped years ago when I went to go work in a comic book store. I still read and kept up...but now I pretty much just get TPBs of stuff I remembered liking. I think I got mostly turned off by Marvel restarting all their titles. So I just kinda want to know just major things that have happened lately, I head that they finally spilled the beans on Wolverine's origin and whatnot. So anything real major happen to Superman, Batman, Spawn, or any other big names in the last couple years? And did all the Marvel books start back at point A? Guest HellSpawn Report post Posted March 20, 2003 Here are some big issues... Superman. Kansas got a "Improvement" Coast City style. Now, supes wears Black on his "S". Batman. Jim Lee & Jeph Loeb are the newest and hottest team. A new storyline runs in Batman is called Hush, Red Flags: Catwoman and Bats share several kisses, Bats fight Superman, a new guy in Bruce Wayne life appears, an "Ultimate" fight with the Joker is coming. Going back a few years ago... an earthquake hit Gotham, USA declared Gotham a No Mans Land, Bats went back to his roots and, with help from the "Blues" and his bat Family save Gotham. Later, Bruce Wayne was accussed to be a Murderer, later he became a Fugitive. You should go and buy No Mans Land TPBs, and then some Detective Comics post NML, and later the Murderer and Fugitive stuff. I'll leave the fellow forum true believers to help you with some more stuff. Btw, Spawn... Oh My Todd Screw us. After #100, Capullo left and Todd hired Angel Medina, this guy is not soo good, and now Spawn is no longer a Top 10 book, he moves nearly the 30s. Story. Road to #100 later. Spoilers. Spawn finally fight Malebolgia in Hell, Malebolgia with help from ths guy we (spawn fans) called Mr.Hell liberate one big mamma jamma evil creature, Spawn & Angela beat him, then they went down there to fight Malebolgia, Angela almost killed him but Malebolgia tricked her and killed her, Elektra style. Spawn then beat Big M, and became Ruler of Hell. Wanda is pregnant, apparently, Mr. Hell was messing with the baby. Later Spawn returns to Earth, Wanda's baby is not a baby, they are twins and some angels healed Wanda and the babies. Spawn faced some vampires, Twitch's son leave the house and Twitch almost commit suicide, Spawn stops him. There is another war in hell, Spawn takes his minions and won the war, but... This is a reminder... SPOILERS. Then, Cog turns heel and screwed Spawn, Cog becomes Ruler of Hell and apparently sent Al Simmons back to earth as a human being. Guest Flyboy Report post Posted March 20, 2003 What about X-Men & Exiles? The last couple of X-Men comics I read were the Eve of Destruction series (where Spoiler (Highlight to Read): Wolverine kills Magneto ) and the one after that where Wolverine is kissing Jean on the cover. Then, I stopped. I have a shitload of Uncanny's and New X-Men I haven't even touched. The last Exile I read was like #3, so I need some catching up.
Guest starvenger Report post Posted March 20, 2003 The last Exile I read was like #3, so I need some catching up. OK, I think I can help somewhat here... The original team was AoA Blink, Mimic (who is actually a mutant in his reality), Morph (ugh), T-Bird (John Proudstar turned into the Horseman (whoo!) War), Nocturne (TJ Wagner, daughter of Nightcrawler and Scarlett Witch - MC2?) and Magnus (I think. He was the child of Magneto and Rogue). They're basically a "Sliders"-type team from different realities trying to repair the timelines in various places. If they don't, then their reality will disappear forever (which in the case of Blink, means fuck all since the AoA reality was wiped out in X-Men Omega). If they "die", they're returned to their timeline and replaced on the team. And if they do enough missions successfully, they'll return to a repaired timeline. Anyways, Magnus was killed in the first story arc, and replaced by a female Sunfire, who as it turns out later is gay (as required by contract in all of Judd Winick's books, due to an apparent pact made in blood with his "buddy" Pedro sometime after they were in the Real World together). T-Bird meets an altername counterpart who becomes Shaman in a Wolverine-led Alpha Flight (and yes, that would be legal. Native Americans have dual (triple?) citizenship). Later, he knocks up TJ and ends up in a coma after taking down Galactus, being replaced by Sasquatch (an African-American Heather Hudson). Oh, and Blink and Mimic hook up. The eXiles then meet another sliding team, Weapon X, led by AoA Sabretooth. TJ ends up losing her bastard child. And they keep skipping through realities, the most recent one being a world controlled by a version of the Phalanx. They manage to defeat them, and at the end it is revealed that the AoA reality has been "repaired" and Blink is returned to her reality, and replaced by Magik and making Mimic the new team leader. I was kinda shocked by this since Blink was probably the most popular eXile, but it kinda makes sense when you consider that the MU Blink died fighting the Phalanx. Anyways, this new storyline has crappy art and focuses on the Weapon X team in a world which is controlled by Tony Stark. But the team is now led by Gambit (ugh), since presumably Sabretooth also got returned to the AoA reality and they wanted a crappy character to lead the team. That more or less gets you caught up. There was also a short story in an X-Men Unlimited with Blink and Nocturne written by Chuck "I write everything" Austen that wasn't bad except for the art by Skottie Young, who's going to draw the new Human Torch title (Note to self: don't buy Human Torch). However I wouldn't go out of my way to get it.
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted March 20, 2003 Could someone give me the lowdown on the Stepford Cuckoos, like who they are, where they came from, etc..? I was introduced to them when I started picking up New X-Men, and I've grown to like them a lot. Hopefully we haven't seen the last of them, even though... Spoiler (Highlight to Read): Sophie is dead, and the rest of them turn on Emma, saying that she has no heart, and even worse (well, for Emma), is an old woman ("I'm only twenty-seven, you ungrateful wretches"). Guest Vyce Report post Posted March 20, 2003 SPOILERS..... I'm upset they killed of Blink. You know, the Dirty Dozen-type we-can-be-killed-at-any-point concept is okay and all, but at some point the turnover needs to sort of stop a bit. At least, you should draw the line when it comes to killing off your MAIN character.
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted March 20, 2003 Well, Blink (the AoA/Exile version) isn't dead...she just returned to her own time. But I'm sure she'll come back sooner or later.
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted March 20, 2003 Why the fuck would you boot Blink out of the eXiles? Ugh. No need to for to go out and get the comics I missed, then.
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted March 20, 2003 Flyboy, they're pretty good. You should pick them up--she only left in last month's issue, so there's still plenty of Blink goodness to be read.
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted March 20, 2003 Actually, it boils down to reading up on the latest eXiles or the latest Wolverine's I've missed. Wolverine > Blink, so I know who wins that one. I still can't find Origins #1 & #2, though, damnit.

Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Report post Posted March 22, 2003 Here's the hizzy on Batman: Contagion: Ra's Al-Ghul unleashes an incurable plague on Gotham City. The havoc this wreaked so severely weakened the city that it made the next huge events plausible... Cataclysm: A huge earthquake hits Gotham, and the Bat-family is racing to stem the loss of life. The damage gets so bad the Washington doesn't want to deal with it anymore and declares Gotham an untouchable "No Man's land" setting up the most bad-ass Batman arc in 10 years... No Man's Land: A hellish Gotham where only those too poor to leave, too committed to leave, or too insane to leave, have stayed in Gotham is depicted in this arc. batman and Com. Gordon's relationship is better characterized here, than in the rest of the Bat-mythos combined. I won't spoil anything but a major Batman villain bites it at the end of this one. (Only to come back later.) Officer Down: Gordon is shot and leaves Gotham. Skip it. Bruce Wayne: Murderer : Great arc where Bruce Wayne is accused of murder, but he doesn't seem too interested in proving his innocence... Bruce Wayne: Fugitive : The revelation of the true killer of Vesper Fairchild, and the Bat-Family pisses readers of DET. COMICS and BATMAN off more than ever thought possible. HUSH: Right now. A mystery man is manipulating member's of Batman's rogue's gallery while putting together his own fiendish plan.
