Guest 5_moves_of_doom Report post Posted March 21, 2003 Hey, I usually just keep myself down in the SWF boards, but I read the movies/TV threads a lot, and surprise surprise, some people seem to know about movies. Now, my predicament... actually starts out with writing. At my school, someone thought it'd be a MAGNIFICENT~! idea to assign the class a project where you choose your own topic and then base an entire magazine on it. Thinking it might be funny, I picked "Star Trek" as my topic, and entitled the mag "Trekkie." Now, everything was all fine and dandy until I realized just how limited and horrible my Star Trek idea was, especially since (aside from some of the movies) I'm really not a Star Trek fan in the first place. But, tomorrow, we have our first article do, and it's evidentially a "How To" article... and I have no ideas. "How to make Spock ideas" and all of that mumbo jumbo has been done, and I wrote a page and a half of "How to survive a Star Trek fan festival" before realizing that my audience (already established Trek fans) would already KNOW how to do that. So, it's almost 8pm... and I need ideas. The article doesn't have to be long really, because this entire project is just pretty damn easy overall. But I can't think of a good idea... so... uhhhh... anyone here a fan of Star Trek that could give me one? Sorry that I had to resort to asking here, but I'm desperate. Responses will be appreciated, especially if they come soon, as like, I only got one hour of sleep last night so I CAN'T stay up all night tonight writing this shit. If all else fails, I'll fake sick.

Guest DrTom Report post Posted March 21, 2003 How about the devaluing of the franchise, with the lackluster Enterprise and the pedestrian Voyager before it? Considering DS9 only became really interesting (and a lot more popular) when they got a ship, you could make a case that TNG was the last great series in the franchise. Guest MrRant Report post Posted March 21, 2003 Why can't they just do a show say either at the same time period as TNG in the TNG/DS9 universe with the Enterprise or skip ahead about 50 years.
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted March 21, 2003 Know what would shock the Trek community? It would cost a boatload of money, but the sets are already made and the costumes are already there and, lets face it, the actors haven't popped up much anyway. That's right. You know where I'm going. Bring back the TNG cast, use the old MODEL of the Enterprise-E since it's a TV budget, and let them go exploring. Really exploring. Out on their own. If Stewart doesn't want to come back, fine. We'll have Riker step up (if you've seen NEMESIS, it's not that big of a stretch), add some new characters. Do you have any idea how much of a cash cow that series would be? The Trek community would go nuts. It'd be landmark television, I'm pretty sure a first with a show ending, the cast doing movies, and coming back together in some form to revive the show again. It'll never, ever happen. I know. But it'd seriously kickstart things again.
Guest LaParkaMarka Report post Posted March 21, 2003 Having the old TNG cast together won't improve the writing at all...it'll still be the same old rehashed storylines. I caught a bit of Enterprise the other day, and they were redoing the old "Transporter made someone invisible, but everyone else thinks they're dead" story from TNG. I watched for five mins, rolled my eyes, and changed the channel.
Guest red_file Report post Posted March 21, 2003 It'll never, ever happen. I know. But it'd seriously kickstart things again. Doubtful. If the TNG cast still held some appeal then the latest movie wouldn't have done as poorly as it did. As said, the problems are the individuals in charge and writing the shows, not the cast. Guest SP-1 Report post Posted March 21, 2003 NEMESIS did so bad because it opened against freakin' THE TWO TOWERS, and because they fucked up Enterprise so bad. If NEM would have been held off until late February, it would have done better, IMO. Or open it this summer. Plus, I don't think the TNG cast would put up with the kind of lazy crap that is all over Enterprise. Especially not Stewart. Stewart would regulate. I read what the season finale for ENT will apparently be and I gotta say, ENT may be about to shift in the right direction. I'll post it in the spoiler box if anyone is interested. Guest SP-1 Report post Posted March 21, 2003 Spoiler (Highlight to Read): Nope. The final arc has to do with the Klingons. And something big happens "Back Home" if you catch my drift. It's over at Trekweb.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted March 22, 2003 OH! So... They're finallly going to explain why Klingons in the Original Series didn't have the 'facial structure' of the Klingons in NextGen! Bout damn time.[/i] Why bring back STNG? The series ended on such a good note. Why not just meld all 3 series together into one uber-trek? Or just do "StarTreK: Academy" with Colm Meany finally getting the love as star of the show? Guest razazteca Report post Posted March 22, 2003 I would like to see a movie that had TNG and Voyager go to Deep Space 9 to help battle the borg or have Q put them on trial again for the criminal acts of the Federation.
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted March 22, 2003 Trekweb said this is what the final story arc is about. It's three episodes, but they aren't tied together. The final two continue an episode that will air soon: SPOILERZ Spoiler (Highlight to Read): Basically, while Klingons hunt Archer for escaping Rura Penthe, the Enterprise heads back towards home. Apparently they find out that Earth has been attacked, with the damage visible from space. I'll mark out if this is the beginning of the Romulan War~! If that last bit is what it's about, I think ENT may be about to find it's legs.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted March 22, 2003 It's about time!! Spoiler (Highlight to Read): Earth deserves to get fucked up...This is SOOOO DS9ie. Starting a war to increase interest... Hell, it got me hooked before, I wouldn't be surprised if it would hook me again (I haven't gotten into ENT yet... But each of the treks has taken me a while to get into.) The Romulans would be perfect because of their association with the Vulcans and their overall characteristics in relation to the budding Federation optimism and naivety. Guest SP-1 Report post Posted March 22, 2003 Spoiler (Highlight to Read): Agreed. Plus, if they're going to tackle the Birth of the Federation, they gotta handle the Rommie War anyway. Might as well use it to make the show interesting too.
Guest MrRant Report post Posted March 22, 2003 They had better do SOMETHING especially if UPN folds and they are looking for another network outside of syndication.
