HBK-Jericho question

Recommended Posts

Guest RavishingRickRudo

Both hogan and HBK have value - it's not just in feuds or headlining ppvs. Fans still love to see them and cheer for them, but they won't pay for it. Their only use is making appearances and in an undercard tag match on big ppvs.

But the build to the match and Jericho's character doesn't fit in with that. It would make NO sense if Jericho just starts no selling and destroys HBK.

It would make sense if they give Jericho a huge push afterwards and he feuds with Booker for the title. See the match as a 'coming out' party for the new Y2J. He's tired of being seen as a comedy wrestler - no one took his threats against HBK seriously and now look what happened - Jericho destoryed him. His current character has an anger in him that backs this up, only now he's more serious and is making a statement.

HBK doesn't get that big of a pop anyways.

I think he'll get a pretty big pop at Mania. But thats all just opinion.

The mark in me would like to see HBK go out on top in (presumably) his last Mania, but there's no reason not to put Chris over, especially with the feud being as one-sided as it's been.

Actually, the feud hasn't been all that one-sided. While HBK has made Jericho look like crap in all his promos, Jericho has gone over in pretty much everything that's counted match-wise. Remember how much of a squash the start of the Rumble was (one of my biggest mark out moments of all time). The fact that they completely ignored it later on made it much less meaningful, but Michaels still put Jericho way over there. This feud isn't even close to being Lesnar-Angle levels of one-sidedness.

As for the original question, Jericho winning a rematch would mean nothing--he has to win at Mania. Nothing else is acceptable.

I do think that if Jericho and Booker both win, that would be the ideal post-Mania title feud. I actually expect Jericho to win, but while I was certain Booker was winning a month ago, now Booker winning seems quite unlikely. It would be great if it happened though, and if Jericho went over you in their title match could have Austin-Jericho at SummerSlam, with Austin going over. In this scenario, everybody's happy (except for you-know-who).

Intelligence says to put both Y2J and Booker over at WM. Then WWE can have those two fueding over the world title and HHH/Rock/Austin/Bisch/Goldberg/whatever in a second main event fued for the Raw brand ppvs.

This of course probably wont happen.

An actual Booker T/Jericho feud over the HHHeavyweight Title (woohoo! HHHate~!) would be a good way to get some new life into RAW.

You could have Goldust and Christian make cameos along the way, and they of course have a good backstory, from the feud over the Tag Titles in the winter.

Of course, they'd give all the airtime to another HHH/Austin feud that no one would care about.

You're right, Booker vs. Jericho will be the second main event feud to HHH vs. Austin. And guess what? The blame for low ratings and buyrates won't fall on HHH and Austin - it will fall on Booker and Jericho. So they will go back to the midcard while HHH and Austin will feud over the belts.

HBK must tap clean to the walls at Wrestlemania, if he doesn't it is a very bad business decision. It makes no sense to put a future superstar over a crippled has-been. So WWE logic dictates that HBK goes over clean.

I'd rather see Benoit/Rock or Brock/Rock. I never even thought about Rock/Booker. Perhaps that's the reason they didn't give it away on RAW.

I'd pay for an Austin-HHH feud just for the simple fact that they'd probably be shooting on each other every time a promo was cut. Could lead to some interesting stuff.

Other than that, I'd love to see both Booker and Jericho go over at Mania. Will it happen? Maybe now, since they are losing so many stars it will happen. Vince can't afford to lose any more of his heavy hitters without making some new top players.

I'd rather see Benoit/Rock too. They could pull it off by having Rock beat Austin and run to SmackDown. But I want them to put Booker over and make him a bona-fide star.

Do you think they could do that with a Booker and Jericho feud. Not that they would, because someone wouldn't let that happen, but do you think if they pushed Booker and Jericho as 'the next generation' it would be successful?

"Next Generation?"

Oh god. I just got a flashback to 1994/95. Unbelievable...

Not as the next generation, but they're striking with Booker when he's still pretty hot and they have an already somewhat established Jericho getting a renowned push. If Trips and Austin step aside, I think it could work well. Other option is run Rock/RVD and have RVD go over and make a third guy but the Kane break-up has just stalled and stalled.

I think it could work well if, like you said, Austin and HHH took a backseat to it. Partially because it's something different, partially because of Jericho/Booker being Jericho/Booker. If they put Jericho and Booker over Austin/HHH and actually promoted it as being more important, it just might give the company a shot in the arm.

I notice the parallel more with Booker/Golddust, where they had a really nicely progressing storyline that was cut-off quickly. Rhyno/Benoit gets a little more leeway since they haven't had their title match yet (WM).

That's the other thing I see is something fresh for fans with two new main event guys. Same thing needed to happen with Angle/Brock though.

New guys? In the main event?! No fucking way without an added hundred pounds and no neck(or workrate). ;)

Doncha think that two tag teams splitting within weeks of each other will be a bit odd?

I could see Benoit/Rhyno splitting up after Mania, having their match at Backlash or Judgement day, Benoit puts Rhyno over and Rhyno goes on to feud with Brock.

RVD and Kane split up, it's harder to tell who the heel will be. I really hope they don't go with RVD/Booker as a ME feud because their previous matches were really bad. Kane vs. Booker would be better in est. Booker as a champ (going over a monster... if Kane has that worth anymore) and there wouldn't be a great gap in their styles.

Am I the only one shocked that so many of you think there's even the slightest chance in hell that Jericho will go over Michaels clean at WrestleMania? It's inconceivable. Even a cheap, tainted, ridiculously over-booked victory might be a stretch for Y2J at this show.

Agreed.

I do want Jericho to win, but, lets see...

Jericho VS HBK

Austin VS Rock

Hogan VS McMahon

HHH VS Booker T

Angle? VS Brock

UT VS I dunno, but whoever he have NO CHANCE in hell.

Brock, UT, Booker ?, Hogan, Austin? => they probably will win, all of them faces, so, you think they will be ok to job just one face?

Of course, it could be a mixed win/loss group...

UT always win, so, forget about him.

Brock? he wins. Period.

Hogan, payback for the Montreal finish. And hopefully his farewell.

and the clique winning.

HHH over Booker and HBK over Y2J.

BUT, call me naive, mark or whatever, I do believe that Booker is winning.

So, back to the original question...

I guess I could accept a Y2JOB in WM, if HBK returns the job at SummerSlam.

I still think that Jericho has several WM in his future.

HBK winning wouldnt make any sense except for strings being pulled backstage.

Jericho needs this win alot more than Shawn does.

Jericho should make Shawn tap clean right in the middle of the ring. It would put Jericho over so good and make Shawn not look like one of those bitter old guys who won't put anyone over.

Plus Jericho deserves it.......

Yea
