Recommended Posts

Guest Nathan J

Does anyone know what the Rey Mysterio DVD is going to have on it?

if the WWE use all the footage they have available it would have to be the best DVD they have released. Thanks.

It seems that it's been in developments for awhile...I don't think we'll see any Mysterio in WCW Post Superbrawl 99....Although, Save for that ****1/2 Match with Kidman on Nitro and that ****3/4 tag match on one of the final PPVs...Mysterio wasn't really "Awesome" due to nagging injuries...

Guerrero/Misterio from Havoc '97, and Psychosis/Misterio from Bash at the Beach '97 were both pretty damned awesome.

Oh Yeah...I said POST 99...Which was when he was Maskless so we wouldn't see anything after that time period...But there wasn't much to show there anyways...I wonder if they will try to get his ECW stuff with Juvy?

Both the VHS and DVD version is set to release on May 27th, along with the Wrestlemania XIX DVD.

I think Mysterio had matches with Psicosis in ECW before leaving for WCW along with him instead of Juvi. However, AAA in Mexico was where the Mysterio vs. Juventud matches took place.

Nah, Juvi vs. Rey happened at Big Ass Extreme Bash in 1996. There were 2 matches which were both 2 of 3 falls.

They had ground-breaking matches in Mexico and the Tijuana match. Much better than that ECW walk-through.

True but The ECW run is still pretty tight for Non Puro/Luncha Libre Elitists...

i think you mean bash 96 but either way, the havoc match is head and shoulders above the psychosis match.

I loved the Havoc match but I couldn't stand that fucking costume Mysterio wore...Just UGLY. Kinda of hurt the match...not much though...

I hope they have some Rey vs Malenko matches on the DVD and the Rey vs Flair match.

The Bash '96 match really isn't all that good. All it is is a few spots here and there, nothing special. The match with Juvy at the Big Ass Extreme Bash is better.

Rey Mysterio busted out the Electic Chair in one of those matches for the Mexican National Light Weight title in AAA and some of his work in CMLL without the mask was just breath taking.

You say the BATB 96 match sucked, you are really hard to please than. It was groundbreaking in the US at that time.

Well, compared to Rey's other matches, it really isn't all that good. They can put better stuff on there is all I'm saying.

I also never said it sucked.

There's a lot of footage the WWE has to work with in putting the DVD together.

If it were me, I'd add either the GAB 96 or Havoc 96 bout with Malenko - both were awesome at the time and still hold up. Ultimo Dragon at Hog Wild 96. Eddie at Havoc 97. Rey / Kidman vs. Benoit / Malenko in Toronto. Either of the matches between Rey and Kidman during the spring of 99 (Nitro or Spring Stampede). The cruiserweight tag team title match from the final Nitro. Maybe even the match he had with Kevin Nash in which he pinned Nash clean (right after losing the mask).

WWE-wise...

debut vs. Chavo on Smackdown ... Summer Slam vs. Kurt Angle ... Rey vs. Benoit vs. Angle in San Diego ... the 2 / 3 falls tag title match with Rey / Edge vs. Angle / Benoit from Smackdown

I am sure WWE will put more Rey matches from WWE than WCW.

Vince would never admit that WCW put on kick ass matches like that. Even though he could make some mad dough, he wouldn't admit to it.

He would of put out WCW videos along time ago. As all of you know.

I don't think it has anything to do with ego - I think it's just a matter of what would sell and how to market the product.

Several classic or at least memorable WCW matches have been featured on WWE DVDs thus far. Flair / Steamboat from Nashville, Hogan / Flair from Orlando, and to a lesser extent Steiner / Booker from the final Nitro.

Seriously, how well would an item like a re-released Starrcade 97 DVD do in comparison to ... a WrestleMania X-9? WCW has been out of the picture for too long and the fan base is not big enough to make the WWE a ton of money just by re-releasing old events. For the time being, the only way we're going to get classic WCW footage is via WWE bio DVDs (Hogan for one ... hopefully in the future we'll see a Flair, Bret, and Benoit collection among others).

I have to wonder if the WWE will even cover Rey's Connan-Light era, since they seem to be prettending the he was always masked.

I'm really shocked no one has brought up the Ultimo/Rey World War III '96 J Crown match. That's better than anything else Rey did in WCW that year, for my money. Rey/Guererro from '97 would be a great addition as well.

You think Vince will let footage of Ultimo Dragon with the 9 belts be shown? Vince would like to forget the days when his lightweight belt was defended in Japan or Mexico. Also the fact that Kevin Nash won a mask match against Rey.

I disagree.

Vince could make a lot of money off old classic matches from WCW. Hell, half of the people I know bought the damn Triple-Juice DVD just for the Flair/Steamboat match, including me.

I'd rather buy Starcade 97 than WM 9. But that is just me.

If I were them, I would ignore that altogether for many reasons - the least of which being the whole mask issue. Mini Konnan blew.

Why exactly are they releasing a Mysterio DVD before a Flair or Michaels one? Mysterio still has a lot of wrestling left to do, and will probably have matches in the future that should be on this DVD. Flair and HBK should get DVD's first.

My guess is that Rey gets the DVD because he's wrestling full-time so marketing department thinks a Rey DVD would sell more now since they could shill the hell out of it before his matches. Although I'd like to see a graphic saying "Buy Ric Flair's DVD" as he's tagging along behind HHH.

HHH will make SURE that Flair gets the 4 disc treatment...Same with Shawn...

However, Bret only gets the bare bones edition.

Flair and Shawn SHOULD get a 4 disc.

I hear Bret's trying to produce his own DVD. Last I heard, positive talks were going on between he and the WWE about Bret gaining the rights to his footage in the WWF and WCW. I hope he gets the 10 disc treatment.
