Guest Bloodice Report post Posted March 22, 2003 Calling it a "major, major, major step in solidifying the offensive line," the St. Louis Rams on Friday acquired controversial tackle Kyle Turley from the New Orleans Saints for a 2004 second-round draft pick. While Turley started all 16 games last season at left tackle, Rams coach Mike Martz said he plans to use the 6-5, 300-pounder on the right side opposite Orlando Pace, who has requested a trade. "It's a position (right tackle) that we've struggled at over the last few years," Martz said. "Now we feel we've got just a tremendous addition to our team. ... He will impact us the same way Marshall Faulk did and Aeneas Williams did." The seventh overall pick in the 1998 draft out of San Diego State, Turley has started all 79 games he has played in his career. In 2001, he was fined $25,000 by the Saints after ripping off the helmet of then-New York Jets safety Damien Robinson and tossing it downfield. He also agreed to undergo counseling at the team's request. "This is a move forward for our organization and for Kyle," New Orleans general manager Mickey Loomis said. "This trade allows us the flexibility to add more talent to our roster in the future."

Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 22, 2003 Controversial my ass...this is a huge pickup for the Rams and a big loss for the Saints unless they happen to draft a good player with the pick.
Guest Bloodice Report post Posted March 22, 2003 I just used the word for the thread title that everyone on tv, radio etc is using with him. Yes it's a good pick up, but I don't think it will be as effective if Pace leaves.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 22, 2003 Oh...alright..thought you were judging him based on his one incident. Well if Pace leaves they wouldn't be any worse. Last year they only had one good tackle and it would be the same this year if Pace left.
Guest Mad Dog Report post Posted March 22, 2003 Man the Saints have really just pissed all over that 10-6 season.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted March 22, 2003 Wow, great pickup for St. Louis. Warner needs all the protection he can get...
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted March 22, 2003 Will Turley play tackle or guard. I heard somewhere that he might be better suited to play guard, because his arms aren't has long as most tackles.

Guest Bloodice Report post Posted March 23, 2003 I'd like to see Pace stay, and from what i'm hearing the main reason they brought Turley in was to show Pace they're serious about regaining their top form and to change his mind. Not so sure about Warner though, I think Bulger is a great young qb, and if they're not careful they'll lose him like they did Green and lets face it, Warner doesn't have a lot of years left in him and Bulgner isn't one they can afford to lose. Guest imajackoff? Report post Posted March 23, 2003 I would be surprised to see Pace stay. Locking up the kind of jack that it would take to retain Pace and Turley would be too much for the OL. Im a big Turley fan. People seem to forget that the whole helmet throwing incident happened because somebody was trying to twist Aaron Brooks' head into a 180. I love somebody with that kind of temperment when it comes to protecting his QB.

I sure as hell want a guy who will do anything short of killing the guy to protect my quarterback. He's a pretty good tackle too, he just doesn't get the Pro Bowl recognition because he's "controversial". Great pickup for St. Louis.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted March 23, 2003 I remember watching that game on SNF -- you can't fault Turley for what he did. Good thing he's probably not French or else he would have just stood there and did nothing...
