WWF Coliseium Compilations...

I'm planning to rent a few wrestling VHS tapes at Blockbuster tomorrow and want to make sure I can copy them before I do, so I have a couple questions...

 

Is "WWF Smack 'Em, Whack 'Em" copy-protected?

 

Are "WWF Summerslam 1999 or WWF In Your House: Breakdown" copy-protected?

 

I'm pretty sure I heard that the WWF home videos stopped being copy-protected in 1989, but just wanna be sure. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Smack Em Whack Em is not copy protected.

 

Not sure about the other ones though.

I've never had a problem dubbing any WWF video.

The only WWF Coliseum Videos that seem to be copy-protected are ones put out from 1987 to 1988, with there being a rare exception every now and again. If you have a Sima Copymaster or something of the like, it doesn't matter if it's copy-protected or not, as it'll get around it. I can't believe there's actually enough Coliseum Video footage at f'n Blockbuster to make a comp.

Thanks alot all. Are WWF Home Video VHS tapes copy-protected (non-Colisieum videos) or just the WWF VHS tapes from 1987-1988?

 

Bruiser, I should have phrased my topic post differently, I meant to ask if the WWF Coliseium Compiation videos (Smack 'Em, Whack 'Em, Wrestlefest, Supertape, etc.) are copy-protected, not that I'm planning to make a tape from Coliseium Video tapes at Blockbuster. At my local Blockbuster, they have about 3 Coliseium videos and about 12-15 WWF Home Video tapes.

It's been years since I've made copies; I think most of the tapes I ended up getting masters of.

 

As I remember, I had problems with Rumble 89 and Survivor Series 87. It could have just been that specific copy of the tape or maybe it was copy protected - not sure. Everything else I never had a problem with (and that's about 85% of all the CHVs).

From what I hear Rumble 89 is copy protected since I tried to copy it a while back but it wouldn't go. Ditto for SS 87.

 

And I copied Macho Madness from late 88 recently with no problems.

I was actually able to dub RR '89 a couple of times with no problems at all, but I've had problems with SS '87 and '88. Those two are definitely copy-protected. Most of the personality and misc. tapes from 1987 are copy-protected, as well.

Best of WWF Volumes 14 and 17 are copy protected if anyone's keeping score.

The only time I tried to dub Volume 14, it turned out great aside from some white dashes, but that was the fault of my VCR which was going through some "issues" at the time.

summerslam 99 is not protected i rented and copied it already. I dont think any wwf videos have been protected since the switchover to wwf/wwe home video (from coliseum)

You know what would save you a lot of hassle in the long-run when it comes to copy-protected tapes? Buy the masters.

 

Seriously, try eBay for some WWF tape lots. You can sometimes find 10 or 20 tapes for auction as a single item, with the average price of a single tape being FAR cheaper than it would ever sell for individually. I'm talking in the $2-$4 range.

If you have a name brand quality VCR you can copy almost anything, I was able to copy Macrovision protected tapes with my Magnavox & Sharp VCRs.

In many cases, when someone is trying to copy a tape, they're trying to copy it to trade or sell or make a compilation with. Some may be dubbing it for their own personal use, but in most cases, they're doing it with intentions of dealing them on the 'net.
