Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 Okay, so i've haven't used my PS2 in about a week. Last night, i'm in the mood to play GTA: Vice City. I put the disc in and wait for it to read. I wait for about 2 minutes and then I get a message saying "Disc Read Error" What the hell does this mean?
Guest Dace59 Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 Try using other disks. If they work: 1) Try cleaning the disk 2) Use a disck cleaning kit to clean inside/the lense. If that doesn't work, there might be more serious problems.
Guest DrTom Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 Try Dace's advice. My PS2 does this occasionally because it was among the first to be released in the US. If you got one of the early ones, they have a problem where the reading laser gets loose inside the case after a time. There's more info about this on Sony's BBs. If you know your way around inside there (or with similar computer parts), it shouldn't be that hard to fix; if not, Sony will fix it for free by shipping you a refurbished unit (you have to pay to ship yours back; check their site for better details).

That happened to me too. Mine wouldn't work period, and Sony had to replace it.
Guest Essa_Angelico Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 That kept happening to me a lil while ago. The simplist thing I found to do was go in and clean the lens with some alcohol solution. My PS2 ran fine after that. Essa out
Guest redbaron51 Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 Actually with the older PS2 systems, you might have to replace it because the laser wont read some of the newer Games.
