No Best Actor for Day-Lewis and no Best Director for Scorsese.

How was it screwed? In my view, and many others, The Pianist was just the better film. I didn't think Gangs should have won anything except for Best Actor, and even that, I'm glad that Adiran won. I'm very glad that The Pianist got it's very much deserved recognition.

- Brody won. While I'm happy for Brody, D-Day got robbed like a fuck. At least Nicholson didn't win.

- Fuck Polanski. Marty deserved it. You know it. I know it. The guy will never make a movie like GONY again. Sure, he'll make other movies but this was his true last movie.

Gangs wasn't Marty's best movie and He shouldn't get an award just based on his name value...

What? You "Hate" me simply because I don't believe that you should get an Best Director Award because of your name value and as a "Sorry" note.

 

The award would not have been for the good movie Gangs was but more of an Lifetime Achievement Award.

 

I love Marty but he shouldn't get his award as a Sorry note...Let Academy live with thier mistakes and reaward the rightful winners...whoever they may see fit...

Marty'll get his, sure, but I think he should've got it tonight. The Academy always gives awards out too late. Al Pacino, Denzel Washington, Paul Newman, the list goes on and on. That's the one thing I LOATHE about them. Tonight would've been the perfect night to make it right with Marty.

 

Such are the Academy Awards. They give out Lifetime Achievement Awards to people on their death bed and consolation prizes to actors/actresses/directors 20 years too late during the regular show and fuck over those more deserving that particular year.

How did Washigton get his too late? He won in 1989 for Glory. He made like 3 movies and had been on St. Elsewhere at that point. Newman, Coburn, Pacino those guys were a little late. They all had great performances, but not maybe their best overall and best of the year. I think that as long as people are kind of aware that it's a "lifetime achievement" award type thing then it's ok. They owed Martin Landau too, but everyone aplauded his work in Ed Wood and no one said it was a gimme for him.
