Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted March 26, 2003 I got a bigger complaint, and I dont wanna drag this to the food folder, but Im just about fed up paying almost $3.50 a gallon for milk. 1 Gallon of milk costs as much as 2 gallons of gas. So lets not argue over the cost of gas when the cost of milk is so outrageous.
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted March 26, 2003 Does it? I've never investigated an had been under the impression that you have to charge the things up.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted March 26, 2003 The way I understand it is that most hyrbid cars that are available now run on a combo of gas and electric. The electric is generated while the car is in motion and the car runs on gas when its in idle or not moving fast enough for the generator to turn fast enough to generate electric. They get 60-70mpg for gas milage, which is awesome, and the technology can improve to where you can get 100mpg or more in the next few years. Compare that with some SUV's that only get 7-10 MPG.. Theres no plugging in the car to an outlet at all. That is for the strict electric cars which do not use gas.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted March 26, 2003 actually all hybrid cars are gas/electric...thus the term HYBRID. and the way it works is that electric kicks in when the car is running at lower speeds or idle, and gas powers the car at higher speeds just like any other car. I remember my friend's dad had a Prius, and often times we'd be working on something in the garage and the Prius would just CREEP up on us and scare the fuck out of us especially when he then honked the horn. Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2003 if gas costs so much.. remember that if you drive off, you have a good shot of not being penalized since it'd cost the people more to take your cheapass to court than to just let you have the gas. Well.. that's what I hear is the policy at QuikTrip in Missouri.

Guest EricMM Report post Posted March 26, 2003 Yeah apparently when you start a hybrid car, you just turn the key and back out, without any sort of noise. The engine doesn't start up until you're actually moving down a road, not just backing around in a parking lot or your garage. Remember only 20% of fuel is used for maintaining speeds. The remaining fuel is used for acceleration, especially revving from stops to 40 ASAP, or stuff like that. Also for going up hills and such. But driving "boringly" will really save you money. I'm sorry to say...
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted March 26, 2003 I get too much joy out of dusting old people off the line to stop my accelerating antics.

Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted March 29, 2003 "The gas in Iraq is like 3 cents/litre" But how many of them have cars? "if gas costs so much.. remember that if you drive off, you have a good shot of not being penalized since it'd cost the people more to take your cheapass to court than to just let you have the gas." True, but if you pull that sh*t with someone like me working (which I did while in college) you will get busted (never had a successful drive-off when I was in charge of the register to "look after" the pumps. I can't for the life of me wonder why ALL gas stations don't install a pre-pay policy if the transaction is not with a credit card. BTW: $10-15 per week for gas here. I'm not complaining...
