Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 6, 2002 Report Posted February 6, 2002 I saw this movie when I was younger...and bought the dvd for like 10 bucks at Best Buy yesterday. Am I crazy...or is this a very decent horror movie?
Guest TUS_02 Posted February 6, 2002 Report Posted February 6, 2002 It falls until the category "creative, original movie that suffers because of the dozens of sequels that just aren't the same" The only reason to see the one that's coming out this year (says IMDB) is because Bruce Campbell is in it.
Guest Annoyed Grunt Posted February 7, 2002 Report Posted February 7, 2002 I really liked the movie, but I think it is hurt by the fact the Tall Man and the sphere are so much cooler than anything else in the movie. Plus, there are quite a few contunity/logi problems, but they didn't really bother me. Hell, I watch Italian horror films, so Phantasm was a walk in the park compared to some of those.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 7, 2002 Report Posted February 7, 2002 The scene where the kid gets chased through the funeral home by the tall man is a GREAT horror movie sequence.

Guest Kagato Otaku Posted February 8, 2002 Report Posted February 8, 2002 To heck with that...Bruce is the ring announcer for the wrestling match on Spiderman. Ash and Randy Savage together on the big screen? Can American theatres stand this much machismo?

Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted February 8, 2002 Report Posted February 8, 2002 This is my favorite series of horror movies. Angus Scrimm is possibly the best actor for a supernatural villain the world has ever known. And I don't think it's fair to say that the sequels are bad. Phantasm was a masterpiece for horror films, especially since it was made when slashers were becoming all the rage. Phantasm II was even better, IMO, as the once weak characters took the initiative to destroy the Tall Man. Phantasm III: Lord Of The Dead was pretty cheesy, but it helped continue the series. The reason the characters were weaker in this one, also IMO, was more than likely because they faced the Tall Man in II...and since this movie was made, I'm guessing you know the ending. Phantasm OblIVion was boring, but it's really just a film dedicated to tying-up loose-ends. And with Phatasm V coming out this year...**orgasms** And don't you love it how the first 5 or so minutes of each sequel sums up the preceding films? And how the first scene of new footage in each movie takes place DIRECTLY after the final scene in the previous movie?
