Australia World Champions

And Australia has marched to ANOTHER world championship in ANOTHER sport, this time cricket, for the 2nd time in a row. We completed a clean sweep of the entire tournament, despite losing several key players to injury and various other controversies along the way. What can't we win???

Can I just say that the playoff system in cricket sucks? I can't say that I really follow cricket but near as I could tell Kenya (which is right up there with Canada on the list of world cricket powers) got a near-free ride into the semis due to the way they carry over points...

Two reasons:

1. Due to the political situation in Zimbabwe, New Zealand & England refused to play their scheduled matches against Kenya in Zimbabwe, giving Kenya two automatic wins. This was an unfortunate situation that was fairly avoidable.

2. Despite the fact Kenya probably shouldn't have made it to the Super Sixes, they then proceeded to win their matches nonetheless, amazing story really, somewhat similar to Sth Korea's amazing run in the soccer World Cup last year.

Nonetheless, neither of these problems had any bearing whatsoever on Australia's march to victory. We played and crushed everybody in our path. Kenya being in the finals was irrelevant, we beat them in the first stages on the finals as well as beating everyone else, they in no way contributed to Australia getting some kind of easy passage to the final.

World Cup Soccer

We'll see about that. Now that we don't have to travel halfway across the world just to friggin qualify. It'd also be handy if the Premier League clubs who the vast majority of our players play for would allow our players to come within 50km of each other to train as a team. We showed what we can do, in the last two years we've beaten Brazil, England, Argentina & Uruguay. Just wait for 2006...

Big wins for your soccer team but Australia has not qualified for the World Cup in recent years as I recall. You can blame anything and everything you want but lets face the facts Australia is not good in the real sport of Football.

We will be at the next World Cup, it's a certainty. And we will make an impact

I reckon Australia would be capable of getting to around the quarter finals stage if they avoided the very best teams. While they are a very capable side there is a world of difference between playing Argentina or Brazil in a friendly and facing them when it really matters. The contentious club vs country debate is here to stay I'm afraid because most fans simply put care more about their own team than their national team. This is especially true of the Premiership, managers deliberately make it awkward for International coaches to gather their first choice squad together.

Nanks, you're being overly optimistic. We still suck at soccer when it counts...

We do own everything else though. Fact.

Idiot.

We have several Track & Field world champions as a matter of fact.

We defeated the Men's World Softball Champions, New Zealand, just last week

We are the Women's World Softball Champions

You've got me on Men's Basketball.

Our Women's Basketball Team are Olympic Silver Medallists and World Champs Bronze Medallists

We're the Women's Olympic Hockey Champions

We're the Men's World Champs Silver Medallists

All in all that's not so bad for sports we won't win.

So The refs screwed up here too?

Australia are clearly the best side in the world...although If England had a few decent bowlers they would've beat them. I Can't believe we let them get away from being 80 -odd for 7 to reaching 200. England were robbed in that World Cup though....there was the Zimbabwe debacle and we should really have beaten Australia. Not that we would've won the WC but certainly got to the semis...we lack 2 quality bowlers before we even think about properly competing with Australia.

Hmmmm, yeah. If you had some decent bowlers, a bit of a better batting lineup, and a captain that wasn't a whingeing twit, you could've gone better... In fact, if you had an entirely different lineup that included some of the world's best players, you could've won the whole tournament...

Shoulda

Woulda

Coulda

You had us in trouble with the bat, but seeing as we bat all the way down to 10, that's always hard to totally do. We were missing one of history's greatest bowlers and a seriously in-form quick yet still dismantled you. In fact, our 4th string fast bowler crushed your entire line-up. The Zimbabwe situation was awfully unfortunate, and clearly warped the results of the tournament, but don't go carrying on about beating Australia, no one came within coo-ee, and there's a reason.

I think it's safe to say having you 80 for 7 needing 200 is close to being beaten. But fair play to the Aussies they were the better team, I'm not saying we were unjustly beaten, just that I'm dissapointed that we couldn't go onto win a match from that situation reagardless of the opponents. And as far the 2 quality bowlers thing, I do think we need more than that. But if we had had 2 quality bowlers in that Australia match we would've won. No team is anywhere near Australia in the cricket world, that's a fact. I think probably the only player with a shot at getting in the Aussie team is Michael Vaughan, and even then maybe not.

American Football and Baseball aren't International sports because nobody outside the US gives a fuck about them.

For anybody wondering about Nanks' sig that's Aussie Rules. And that's shit as well.

As for the Cricket I forgot it was still on until I saw a picture of the Aussies with the trophy in the paper. The general coverage (outside of SKY) dissapeared after England went out. I've always thought there was sometimes too much coverage of England cricket on the news in relation to how many people are actually bothered about the sport. Rugby is our 2nd national sport easily these days. The truth is kids in England don't give a toss about Cricket and with nobody taking up the sport where is any good young talent going to come from? It'll be slim pickings on that score which will lead to many more years of mediocrity.

Describe how that makes me an idiot. Since the world refers to soccer as football, and since you appear to be from Australia I was stating a sport that Australians do not play, which is a American style of football it was so that you didn' get confused. You were so high on yourself about how Australia is all of the sudden this great "sporting juggernaut" that I was naming some sports that Australia might not be that dominate in. I was doing that post in more of a joking matter, obviously you didn't get the joke.

What about Japan? Last time i checked they love baseball and they are outside the US. Central America loves baseball. I think that many baseball players come out of there, so obvious they like baseball.

Okay, so 2 countries play it. Tiddly Winks and Subbutteo have more credibility as International sports. How come Japan doesn't get invited to that big ''World Series'' thing?

Australia may be the best in its own unique sport called Cricket which seems to be only played by Common Wealth countries, to an American, such as myself, would give it a blind eye and say so what, big deal.

This is probably the same case as Aussies most likely could care less for NASCAR or Bowling or Golf.

Uh, I don't know what Olympics you've been watching, but in 2002 the Canadians won men's and women's Gold. The US had the silver for men's too.

I suppose you could be referring to field hockey, but who cares about that?

WTF.

Considering the fact there's enough nations playing the sport for there to be a 'World Cup' competition staged then I don't see what's so funny about the term you just singled out. Such a thing actually exists, unlike say 'Baseball world powers' or American Football world powers'. Do you understand?
