I read about this movie about 3 years ago. Like most of these movies, I'll believe it when I see it actually released.

Is the whole listing fake or just the Undertaker part? Cause when I looked it I was much more shocked at Roger Avary being listed as writer than a stupid wrestler being in it.

The whole listing is fake. No plans to make this movie exist at this time. There isn't even a script yet.

This was the same thing they did with Return To Sleepaway Camp, when they had a cast listing that included Nelly in it.

And even if this movie had the green light and was going to get made, I still would not believe that it was the Final movie in the series. I think that the last few movies have all said something like "Final Chapter". This is a series that had great first movie and crappy sequels that just kept the series going for no other reason then to keep it going.

This series should have ended after part 2. Even though Phantasm 3 was decent enough, it turned the whole storyline upside down and was made waaaaaaay to far afterwards to be taken seriously.

Unrelated, but still. Some scenes of the original Phantasm were shot in Oakland, CA at a place called the Dunsmuir House and Gardens. I went to see the movie when it came out in 79 as an 8 year old boy and it freaked me out. My dad, who was a partier at the time and his friends got drunk one Halloween and went to the cemetary and jumped the fence. Freaky just to think about. The mansion hosts weddings and such and I remember having to go there for a wedding in the early 80's and freaking out that I was going to see the guy from the movie walking around.

I'm a fan of the entire series. Phantasm 2 is by far the best, but just the overall mystique of all of them makes me a fan. And no horror movie villain rules quite as much as The Tall Man.

Fucking blows that it's a fake.

I've done some poking around and found out the truth about all this. There IS a fifth movie in the works and it IS called Phantasm's End and it IS written by Roger Avary, but then again the listing on IMDB IS fake as well. Nobody has been cast or anything because they're not that close to making it, it's not in production or even close to pre-production.

The deal going on is that Avary's script is a bigger budgeted style movie. A theatrical movie instead of another low budget direct to video sequel, it takes place in the future and all that. The thing is, their not sure they'll get a studio to give them the amount of money it would take to make this. After all, it's friggin Phantasm. So what caused the rumors of this being a total hoax and the speculation that the script doesn't even exist is the fact that the script has most likely been scrapped to re-write another low budget one and the low-budget script is the one that doesn't exist yet. But either way, there will be another movie it looks like. Don Coscarelli says Phantasm's End will most likely be his next movie regardless of which script they end up having to use.

Hey, as long as it keeps the feel of the rest of the series (ie. explaining what happened between films, and recapping each previous movie), I'll be happy. I'd actually prefer it if the team from Phantasm 2 got back together for Phantasm's End. With the right cast, and even a Troma budget, it could kick serious amounts of ass.
