Guest GameCop Report post Posted March 25, 2003 In today's monday update, Meltzer mentions that Hogan vs. McMahon is planned to headline WM which is why WWE asked Piper, Ventura, Costas, HHH, Austin to give their opinions on the match. In addition, Hogan appeared last on 3rd Degree because WWE wanted to present Hogan in a grandiose light. This sucks, doesn't it? A bunch of 50-year-olds will slug it out in the main-event of WrestleMania 19! Didn't the WWF criticize WCW for the same thing back in 1996?
Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted March 25, 2003 This is as dumb as putting Taker/Taker on after Bret/Owen at Summerslam 1994.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted March 25, 2003 He didn't really say that- He said they were positioning it to be like that but he didn't say it was official or anything
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted March 25, 2003 this truly has to be some sort of sick joke. vince's ego will eventually crumble this company. i know if that were the case, it just means i would get to bed a half hour earlier because there would be no reason to watch the fucking match. in all likelihood, it will be vince's way of debuting goldberg. next month at backlash... hogan vs goldberg
Guest Star Ocean 3 Report post Posted March 25, 2003 If Lawrence Taylor can wrestle in the main event, so can Vince...but LT's match actually had some media coverage.

Guest mickberna Report post Posted March 25, 2003 The only reason this MIGHT headline is because it MIGHT be Hogan's retirement match, seeing as it is Wrestlemania and Hogan's back will probably break "smack dab in half" if he ever stepped into the ring with a real wrestler again. I could see this headlining only if Hogan won and posed while "Real American" played. Just like old times. Notice I didn't say it would be a good idea. Guest Breetai Report post Posted March 25, 2003 And so, for the second year in a row, the audience will leave during the main event of Wrestlemania.
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted March 25, 2003 Only way it could be justified as the main event is if Goldberg debuts with a run-in and retires Hogan.. or, some other equally shocking way of Hogan losing. Hogan winning would be nice and all but a total non-event. I don't like this approach much though. Wrestlemania should be the end of the current booking year, not the beginning of the next one (see Starrcade '97 and WrestleMania X-7). Any big debuts/turns should be on the next night's Raw. HurriShane 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2003 Well, if Hogan and Vince is the main event I will say that I'm dissapointed but I can't say that comes as much of a surprise.
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted March 25, 2003 Then again, everyone said Hogan/Rock would be the main event last year. I think if they do Rock vs. Austin, Vince vs. Hogan, and Angle vs. Lesnar in that order...people will leave like last year....but I'd still do it.
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted March 25, 2003 The better part of a decade after making fun of Hogan's age as the Huckster they are putting him in the ME of the biggest show of the year. It's not like it's going to have massive heat either, I don't understand it.
Guest JDMattitudeV1 Report post Posted March 25, 2003 HHH said on his DVD (I'm paraphrasing) that the WWE title match should always go on last and to do anything else would spit on everybody else who ever fought for the title at Wrestlemania. I guess that only goes for when HE is fighting for the title. I seriously don't see what the big deal is about McMahon vs Hogan. McMahon isn't a wrestler and Hogan had his big come back match last year. To quote Scott Keith their just two 50 year olds fighting over something that happened 20 years ago. As far as Rock vs Austin is concerned the magic just isn't there this time. As much as I like the Rock he will go back to Hollywood after Backlash, and I will be very surprised if Austin is still around this time next year, due to injuries or him falling out with the writers again. I honestly believe that the only match that should headline is Angle - Lesner, as the WWE title is still theoretically the most important thing in the business, and both men deserve that honour as they have been touring the world working house shows and keeping the WWE going. However I don't think this will happen as the WWE would prefer to put either a promoter and a has been in the main event, or have a guy who spent most of the last year in Hollywood and a guy who spent the last year sitting on his ass headline. As much as I want Angle and Lesner to headline I can't see it happening.
Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted March 25, 2003 Brock/Angle won't main event, probably because they're afraid something might happen with Angle's neck. It would suck hardcore if Wrestlemania ended with Kurt lying paralyzed in the ring with Brock holding the title.

Guest Space_Cowboy Report post Posted March 25, 2003 The headline of Wrestlemania is a trip to the Old Folks Home, goody. But i guess the massive combined ego's of Hogan and McMahon couldn't fit in the same ring unless it's the main event of the biggest show of the year.
Guest Blue Bacchus Report post Posted March 25, 2003 I'm kinda looking forward to seeing Hogan v. McMahon this Sunday. I also wouldn't mind it being the Main Event either. I guess I'm in the minority.

Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted March 25, 2003 HAHAHAHAHAHA Booker vs. HHH last. That's funny. Not counting Rocky, has a black wrestler ever main-evented Wrestlemania? Wait, Mr. T, of course. I pity the fool that forgets the first Wrestlemania main event!
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted March 25, 2003 If this main event signifies the end of Vince trying to hotshot angles and marks the beginning of a new era where both the 80's and 90's way of producing television are over. Where WM 20 will be the first WM under the new WWE system... Then I am all for it ending the show... But... that's not going to happen.
Guest Deebo Report post Posted March 25, 2003 If I remember correctly, didn't the WWE make some big deal at the Royal Rumble emphasizing how the winner of the rumble would get a shot at his brand's title in the MAIN EVENT at WM? Seems like it should be Angle vs. Brock.

Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted March 25, 2003 From what I have heard from smarks and marks alike, NO ONE FUCKING CARES about Vince/Hogan saga. No one even buys into the "20 years in the making" either because until 6 months ago, this hostility was never around. Dammit this match better not be last. Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted March 25, 2003 I am fairly confident that Angle vs. Lesnar will Main Event. Hogan/Rock was the "real" main event last year, but it wasn't the last match. I think Vince will probably let Angle on last considering the situation (it may be his only chance). Or at least that is what a man with class would do... The WWE can barely remember 2 weeks ago, let alone something that happened 2 months ago, they'd forget about the 'main event' stip from the Rumble in an instant. Guest Brian Report post Posted March 25, 2003 And so, for the second year in a row, the audience will leave during the main event of Wrestlemania. Damn. I can't leave. I have to wait until the end of the show to get my chair. But I'll be shitting on this match live, especially if after follows Michael/Jericho, Brock/Angle, and Austin/Rock.
