Title is the only thing I have right now.

Just like I predicted about Baghdad, the people in Basra were waiting to make sure we won't leave before they revolt. Actully it's the British fighting there.

This could lead to more cities in Iraq uprising.

Fox was using a direct feed from a Sky News reporter on the scene who confirmed the uprising with British forces. Ba'ath forces are using mortars on the citizens, and the British are firing artillery on the mortar positions. An American strike plane dropped a JDAM on the Ba'ath party HQ, and British commandos are waiting for an opportunity to enter the city to assist in the revolt.

A Bush official was quoted saying he had never heard of a Basra uprising.

Really, this is like the seventh MAJOR lie to come from the Coalition.

It did bounce the stock market a bit though. They need to wake up though and the troops have to get in there and help them now, otherwise... you think they're going to accept being betrayed again? This is very important.

So it's NOT happening? Or did the Bushie lie?

this is a Sky News reporter, embedded with the artillery troop involved, receiving confirmation straight from the commander or whatever. The media has found out about many things before it has worked its way up the chain of command.

I kind of wish it wasn't true though. They said they're waiting the 9 or so (probably less) hours for daylight. Artillery backup fire or not, I don't know if the civilians can hold out that long.

In a way, I wonder what those people will feel when Coalition forces DO roll in there to whip some ass.

British Troops have surrounded Basra. At some point they might have to enter the city.

OK Jobber since an intelligence report hadn't worked it's way up through channels from one national army to another then up that chain of command, then passed along to officials for dissemination quicker than a reporter with a camera, it's a lie? BTW reports are that officials are saying that there are "mixed reports" and "it's a chaotic situation". I would imagine they would want to confirm that it's more than a few dissidents before they commit highly trained troops (yes it's cold, but practical) to doing more than shelling Ba'ath mortar positions and the HQ. Besides, this isn't 1991 and this isn't a war limited by the UN to just liberating Kuwait. Should this in fact be a widespread revolt by Shiites, the British are ready to move in and aid as much as possible.
