Are you looking for stereo or surround sound? If surround sound, at least get something with Dolby Digital and DTS decoding. Pro-Logic II is a nice feature as well. I assume you are looking for something with an integrated power amp, rather than going with separate amp, etc.

If you're not looking to spend a ton on an AV receiver, but still want something good, I'd suggest an Onkyo myself. I have one personally, and think it's great, for both sound quality and for features.

A good site to check out for reviews is www.audioreview.com

Hope this helps somewhat.

If you have alot of money to spend go all componet instead of the All-In-One unit. Some of the best equipment is made from companies you probably never heard of.

What kind of speakers are you going to be running off of this thing?

Panasonic might be okay...though I've never heard that they make great receivers. Are you limited to only spending less than 200 dollars? For 300 you can probably get a much better receiver of higher quality, like the Onkyo TX-SR500, or a Yamaha, for example.
