The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker...

Recommended Posts

Guest Downhome

I just got this game, and I've been playing it for around seven hours off and on, and BAH GAWD it's one of the greatest things of all time. I just now got to my first dungen, as I've been taking my sweet ass time in the first few towns and the such doing side quests, and all of that sort of thing. So far, I am simply in awe, and I am loving every second of this video game experiance. The controll is fantastic, the sound is supurb, and the graphics are kick your ass perfect. Many had doubts about this being cell shaded, even me, but it works perfectly here and I'm almost inclined to say that I'm GLAD they went this direction!

I really don't know what to say other than this is fantastic, in every way, and is by far my favorite game of the year thus far. So, to all of you guys who have got this game now, lets talk about it damnit (use the special spoiler tags for spoilers)! Also, to those who have yet to get this game...

...if you have any questions, feel free to ask, and I'll answer them all as soon as I can, having to do with anything about this game.

Sincerely,

...Downhome...

Awesome game... very, very awesome... but so far, I'm liking Ocarina of Time more.

What was up with the kid with that huge booger in his nose in the first town?! That's the kind of stupid shit I don't like in my games.

As long as shit like that is kept to a minimum, I have no complaints about this game... Well... maybe Link's character model.

I found that amusing, actually.

I played a demo at TrU last week and I was very impressed. The graphics are cool and original, and the control felt a lot like Ocarina of Time. I may have to pick this up myself.

You know...after spending some time with the game...I'm fairly certain that I don't want a new Zelda to look more realistic.

I just don't know about "Cell-da". You'll be able to be a better judge 'home but I think the "kiddie" graphics are not a step in the right direction. I guess it's distinctive and all, but it seems like Nintendo went back to trying to appeal to the younger player when the average console player is getting older and older. I personally would have preferred a more realistic look, but I'll take what I can get. Apparently it's a tremendous game, so I'm willing to look beyond graphics.

I agree for the most part, but I STILl would like to see at least one Zelda game where they incorporate a dark feel and look to it, with the characters looking something like reality, with an older Link and Zelda, etc... It could be outstanding if done right, but still, I'm loving this so much right now.

I thought it was kind of stupid. That and Link's character model are so far the only problems I have with the game. Link looks like a little girl, but to be honest, after playing for a while, I stopped noticing that anyway... so it's all good. I'm loving the music so far and I'm getting into the story alot. I love how they tie it in directly with Ocarina Of Time. Right now, I'm in the second town. I'm trying to do as much of the little side quests as I can before I go use the sail.

I liked the N64 ones better. Still a pretty good game, but not as amazing as everyone told me to expect. To me it seems like they got better until the first N64 Zelda game and that was its peak and they've gotten worse since. Still, a very good game.

I've only played it for a bit but I was marking out for the opening. I've never been so impressed with simple picture and text graphics telling a story, especially in this day and age of FMV, but listening to the old Zelda theme over top of crude pictures that represented Zelda III (I assume.. there were only two triforces in the original LOZ, the pictures showed the 3 triforces formed into one big one). I haven't even left town yet (I was wandering around collecting pigs and just admiring the graphics) so I don't know much about the game, but it was good to see Gannon represented as a pig monster in the opening as opposed to the less cool character of Gannondorf that appeared in the otherwise awesome OOT.

I liked Majora's Mask alot. My only complaint with that one was the lack of dungeons. There was tons of crap to do, but there were only 4 real dungeons. Too few if you ask me. Ocarina of Time was a perfect game, IMO.

So far, I have to say I'm liking Ocarina better, but I haven't gotten very far in Wind Waker at all. Every time I play though, I like the graphics just a little more as I notice another little detail. I still don't care for the character models, but they *are* well done.

The animations when bombs blow up and when enemies disappear is awesome. I also like the lighting.

I'm very happy with the game, although I hope the next Zelda game (hopefully it will be on Gamecube) goes for a more mature feel, not just graphically, but overall tone of the game. I don't know if we're going to get graphics along the lines of the infamous Space World 2000 demo this generation (someone told me that Miyamoto said they had trouble with it or that it was too much for the Cube to do), but I know that the cube would be able to produce some stunning, more realistic visuals. Hell, we've already seen it in other games.

Some people complain that this game doesn't have any voice acting (the noises characters make doesn't count). This doesn't bother me. Voice acting can be HORRIBLE if it isn't well-done, and judging by the dialogue and the way the characters act in the game, it would have gotten very, very annoying. (Especially children characters). Hell, even the noises that the characters make now get on my nerves a bit. I don't mind that there's no voice acting, for some reason, voice acting just doesn't feel like Zelda.

Zelda simply won't go for an "adult" feel. Why?

It's aim is for youngsters.

Wind Waker is obviously aimed more at younger gamers, but that doesn't mean that the whole series is like that. To me, Wind Waker is the first Zelda game that went out of its way to appeal to the younger gamers. Ocarina of Time had its moments of "younger appeal" shall we say, but I still don't think it was specifically aimed at kids. And in fact, some of the puzzles in the older games can be pretty challenging... possibly too hard for younger gamers without a guide.

I got the game today, and I am loving it. I personally think the graphics are outstanding, and have always thought so. Many people view the game's graphics as "kiddie" and "unaccomplished", but honestly, as an artist myself, I can say that this game has the most polish I've ever seen. The style isn't half-assed or stupid, it has been well thought out and I think it shows. I love the smoke effects.

I just beat the first dungeon, and I don't want to give anything away, but it was just great. All the puzzles made sense, everything worked out so well. And damn, I love those ash and cinder effects that fly through the air (you'll see what I mean.) I actually think I need to go back to the windmill town because I missed some things I want to get.

Awesome game, awesome. Reminds me of why I like playing games in the first place.

A darker Zelda would certainly be interesting, but I don't know how much better it would actually be.

I got the game via FedEx Today yesterday (now) around 5 pm, and I played it roughly til 11 or so. I got up to windfall Island, where I got pissed off looking for the Joy Pendants (After spending an equal amount of time looking for the 4 dumbass kids).

I gotta say I think the graphics are just flat out awesome, the music is excellent, the control is good.

However the camera can be a pain some times, the pacing of the game early is slow (I have a feeling that this was on purpose, but having played for 5 hours, I cant even imagine I've touched a 1/100th of the game). Im also not sure I follow too well on the story line either, but that might be cleared up easily with more gameplay..

Im probably going to sit down and play it a good deal tommorrow, although I dont want to play it all through in one big chunk like I did OoT back when I got it for Christmas.

Say for instance a person absolutely hated the 64 Zeldas. Would this be worth picking up then?

Heh, my mom let me play it a few times before Christmas, so I was able to beat it in January (the day WCW Souled Out occured in 1999, too). An impressive feat, especially since no one knows I got it early.

Now, as for Wind Waker, the Sam Goody didn't get it in until yesterday afternoon so I've only had it for about 23 hours, and I had to clean house, so I've only got as far as the Fearsome Fortress. So far, the game rocks my socks. That intro rules, I love hearing the old Zelda themes and chimes updated again, and this cel-shading is perfect.

Question:

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

From that intro, I gathered that not only is the game set in the future, but Gannon actually destroyed Hyrule? Damn.

I believe so yes. No, haven't played the game yet. I just remember hearing that somewhere, but I can't place my finger on it, so don't quote me that it's yes.

Yes, pick it up, especially if you like games with a cartoony, cell shading, type feel.

This is one great game. It has a completely different feel to the Zelda series.

A question........I am STILL stuck in the first level....

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

I destroyed two of the enemies controlling the lights. Where do I go after that? I still haven't gotten the sword yet.

For Renegade....

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

I'm thinking there are more than two searchlight monsters, but maybe its me. Anyways, when you kill them all, keep walking around in a circle until you reach a large room with two guards and a barrel. When you enter, a cutscene shows you that located to the left of the second guard is a set of those big double doors. Use a barrel to reach them.

You are correct sir!

Thank you.

Its not really worth it to hunt down the N64 Zelda's (OoT anyway..) if you get the bonus disc, and I never actually played Majora's Mask, which is more like a minigame type thing then a real game.

No. Majora's Mask is a sidestory, yes, but that doesn't make it a mini game. There were fewer dungeons than OoT, but there was still tons of crap to do in that game.

I'm the most nit-picking anti-Nintendo anti-kiddie fuck on the planet, and my mouth was kinda sore from smiling when I finally put the game down last night. Even better, I woke up the next morning and was trying to figure out what I was doing last night, as all I could remember was it was REALLY GREAT and I wanted even more. Then I saw the GameCube and went "Ahh, that was it."

So this game is not only like sex, it's like that incredibly awesome sex where by the time all the dust has settled, you wake up and wonder what the fuck just happened.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

I am so glad those fucking dungeon hands that I absolutely hate now come out of the wall like the NES game instead of falling from the ceiling and making me change my pants
