Guest Choken One Report post Posted March 26, 2003 Up until Last night, I've only heard about two Fozzy Songs, "End of Days" and "To Kill A Stranger", Which is just an KILLER song no matter how you look at it. I finally heard about 90% of their catalouge last night and although they aren't LEGENDARY as Chris Jericho is, I still think they are a fun throwback to 80'S Rock. My Question is this, Could Fozzy sell if it was just a Normal Rock band and wasn't considered a Side project for a Rassler?
Guest justsoyouknow Report post Posted March 27, 2003 If they were a full-time band, you mean? Absolutely. I gave a copy of Happenstance to all of my friends, and they all absolutely loved it. The next day we all went out and bought the original CD. We also happen to be big 80's rock fans (Scorpions, Motley Crue, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, etc.), but still, the point stands that Fozzy rules the earth. If given proper promotion, they could be huge rock stars.
Guest Crux Report post Posted March 27, 2003 I seriously think they could...putting aside that Im a huge fan of Chris, the band is marketable. They have an awesome sound and look.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted March 27, 2003 I thought the first album was really good but the second one blew. As far as with or without Jericho, come on people, get real, without Jericho you never would've heard of them. They wouldn't have specials on MTV, wouldn't be on Raw, wouldn't be able to sell out shows. The only reason they got signed and have gotten any exposure is because of Jericho. Take Jericho out and they're just a bar cover band. A good cover band, but still a cover band. Their are a million bands out there that do nothing but play covers and a lot of them do the same gimmicky dress up like a 80's band deal, but you've never heard of them because they don't feature a popular pro wrestler. They're not marketable and they don't have a marketable sound or look. The only thing marketable is that their lead singer is Chris Jericho. Even in the 80's they wouldn't have been anything cause 99% of their songs are cover songs.
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted March 27, 2003 With the Fire is a fucking awesome song as well. I liked To Kill a Stranger at first, but quickly got sick of it...I haven't gotten sick of With the Fire yet.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted March 27, 2003 Actually, Lethargic, I would have still heard of them. I'm a huge Stuck Mojo fan. Rich Ward and Bud Fontsere, Stuck Mojo's guitarist/songwriter and drummer respectively, are in Fozzy. I would have heard of Fozzy whether Jericho was in it or not. That said, I don't think Fozzy could make it, as far as mainstream goes. Could they make it on a middleground metal level (meaning the "metal mainstream," as it is)? Hell yes. They have a sound that blends 80's power metal with mid-90's metal (basically taking Iron Maiden and Helloween and combining it with Stuck Mojo and Zakk Wylde's work). "To Kill A Stranger" is a great song, and Jericho really does have a very good voice, as well as onstage charisma. Were Jericho to ever quit wrestling and go at it with Fozzy full-time, I'd see 'em anytime they came to Massachusetts. Hell, I'll still see 'em if they ever come to Massachusetts. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted March 27, 2003 I completely agree on the whole Fozzy ordeal, awesome band, and I was just about to mention the Stuck Mojo thing before Corey beat me to it

Rich Ward and Bud Fontsere, Stuck Mojo's guitarist/songwriter and drummer respectively, are in Fozzy. I would have heard of Fozzy whether Jericho was in it or not. Wow. Ya know, if 3 out of every 5 Stuck Mojo fans became Fozzy fans, Fozzy would have...let me see....3 fans. That said, I don't think Fozzy could make it, as far as mainstream goes. Could they make it on a middleground metal level (meaning the "metal mainstream," as it is)? Hell yes. "To Kill A Stranger" is a great song, and Jericho really does have a very good voice, as well as onstage charisma. Uh...no. They are a COVER BAND. The reason they have a good sound is because it's OTHER PEOPLE'S SOUNDS! What do they have, about 5 original songs total? There have been threads here on this very board about club bands playing cover songs and people on here have said you're never a good band till you quit doing covers and do your own songs. Please tell me a band that has had success in the past 30 years by being a mostly all cover band. Sure, you got your bands like Strutter, but that's just a touring band. They don't out CDs on Metal Blade, if Jericho wasn't in the band Fozzy wouldn't either. The day they put out an entire CD of originals and it turns out good, then we have something to talk about. Right now they're just a novelty act and there's nothing wrong with that because they're MEANT to be a novelty act. The thing that keeps the band from being taken seriously isn't the fact that a wrestler sings for them. It's the gimmick they use. The fake names, the fake wigs, the clothes, the "we wrote all these songs years ago and they got stolen" thing. It's a joke band. That's the whole point of it. Joke bands don't have much success in mainstream, metal mainstream or anything else. They come along, people laugh, people get tired of it.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted March 27, 2003 Wow, I can't believe this many people actually like them. Jericho is a HORRID singer, which is basically the point. I don't really think they're that funny, but I'm sure its fun for them. I'd never bother buying their cds. It's just Jericho and pals dicking around, it shouldn't be taken as anything more than that. Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted March 28, 2003 Hey, Lethargic, why don't you think about the statement I said when I talked about their sound? I know they're a cover band, but they DO have original songs. And those ORIGINAL songs have the sound that I described. Hence, the band themselves have that sound.
