The OLD Family Channel

Recommended Posts

Guest The Czech Republic

Does anyone remember the Family Channel prior to Fox and ABC? I found an old tape in my basement from like 1995 of old stuff from the channel.

Here are some shows I remember seeing:

Trivial Pursuit - pretty cool game show

Split Second - really cool game show

Peter Rabbit - cartoons about Peter Rabbit. eh.

Masters of the Maze - I don't remember much, just a big cool maze.

Heathcliff - though no one should, he terrorized the neighborhood.

And how can you forget, The Super Mario Brothers Super Show featuring none other than Captain Lou Albano.

Another game show that family channel had I liked was Face the Music. It was a take off of Name that Tune that Ron Ely hosted. USA showed it too. I remember a show called Bordertown from the early days of the network too.

That one is rather vague for me. I do remember Split Second. That was a cool one.

Family Channel and USA showed game shows from like 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM every weekday in the late-80's until the early-90's - that was my childhood right there :)

Wow, someone who has the Press Your Luck computer game besides me.

:headbang:

Edit: Oh, and I remember Family Challenge starring Ray Combs, before his death. Decent gameshow, sad in hindsight.

Are you talking about CBN? The channel that had the 700 Club with Pat Robinson on forever in the mornings?

I remember the 700 Club on there, but it was called the Family Channel. I believe it's still on to this day?

- Something with that guy that did Body by Jake

- Heathcliff

I used to watch the old Batman 60s show on the Family Channel when I was 10ish.

I remember that being on FX when the channel first started in 1995. I think it started then. That's when I first got it.

Masters of the Maze fucking owned all. Mario Lopez as the host, and the fucking Maze itself was awesome.

All hail Shatner!

Still waiting for TJ Hooker to go into syndication...

TJ Hooker's been in syndication for a while, though to my knowledge no stations currently have the show on the air.

That's My Dog and Big Brother Jake were guilty pleasures for me back in the early 1990's.

It was a decent channel for kids "back then", but it was totally overshadowed by old-school Nickelodeon programs and broadcast television like the Power Rangers.

Damnit, I remember those shows. Yes, they were guilty pleasures. And one question: was Fun House on the channel too? I remember watching it when I was 5 or 6.

Also, the channel had a TV movie I clearly remember: Night of the Twisters (with Devon Sawa -- remember him? -- and Mr. Jonathan Kent and Mr. Bo Duke himself, John Schneider).

It's kinda weird now that it's ABC and they're showing Power Rangers, Spiderman (the mid-90's and the early-80's one), crap like Beyblade and Medabots, and other stuff. And what's up with Cartoon Network showing Pokemon? Show some more Adult Swim stuff!!

Damnit, I'm going off on a tangent...

Yeah, after it completed its run on FOX it went into syndication and The Family Channel picked it up. I specifically remember watching that and Super Mario Bros. Super Show on Family Channel in the late-80's.
