Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted March 21, 2002 I'm talking Red and Yellow Hogan. If he was a new wrestler, how do you think the fans would react to him.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted March 21, 2002 Booed unmercifully and the minute he tried that weak-ass backrake or a sorry-ass legdrop as a finisher, the fans would turn on him, be completely apathetic and laugh at his receding hairline.
Guest Mystery Eskimo Report post Posted March 21, 2002 I think fans would just be confused as why an old bald man was lumbering around the ring.
Guest RickyB Report post Posted March 21, 2002 I don't understand why you asked that question. Hogan wouldn't get over now because he's from a different era, Wrestling was usually big guys punching and kicking each other with a few slams added in there and the Wrestlers gimmicks were very different then because things that were cool then aren't cool now. Guest Report post Posted March 21, 2002 I think maybe Vern is a Hogan hater and just wants to feel good when people say he will not be over if he was new.
Guest griffinmills Report post Posted March 21, 2002 Put a little more thought in me buckos. What would their reaction be to a 25 years younger Hulk Hogan doing the Hulk Up routine out of nowhere be? Could very well generate a "Dancing Rikishi" pop. Just for being so different. Now if it was the Hogan of today doing it they would just chang "What the FUck" in unison. Guest Report post Posted March 21, 2002 Here's a new question.....how would the fans react to Rock if he came up in the 80's instead of Hogan?
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted March 21, 2002 Rock as in The Rock, or Rock as in Rocky Maivia? The former would be a heel, the latter a bayface, and he'd probably still be a pretty big star. Hogan is a different matter. If we're talking today's 50-year-old Hogan, no way, he'd be booed out of the building. But if you go back 20 years or so to when the Hulkster would get off his ass and work sometimes, sure I think Hogan could easily fit in today. He was certainly no worse than Billy Gunn, Hardcore Holly, Test, etc.
Guest Report post Posted March 21, 2002 I am talking about babyface movie star Rock. And you don't like Test? he gets alot of shit but I think he is pretty good.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted March 21, 2002 Rock's a tough one to call, because babyfaces were supposed to be happy and smiling in earlier years. As for Test, those were just three random muscular WWF guys I listed that I don't think are any better, ring-wise, than Hogan was in his prime.
Guest Report post Posted March 21, 2002 I'm sure the mid 80's Hogan (physique included) could get over today as well. He just has something that makes a lot of people want to like him. Obviously fans who prefer Jericho over Triple H or Austin as champ would hate him but his appeal was never with the hardcore fans back then and it wouldn't be with the internet crowd of today. Guest mastermind Report post Posted March 21, 2002 If we are talking about prime Hogan entering the wwf he WOULD be over and HUGE in my opinion. It's simple no one had that superman character. He played it well and the fans loved the hulking up. It would be different to the fans. I mean look at Triple H who has somehow got as big as Hogan's physique and he's over. Hogan murders this guy in charisma. His current persona would probably be what he is with Hollywood and not the goody two shoes Hogan as I still believe it's pretty much matching the personality with the time. He re-created himself to fit this era, so imagine if he was younger and more "with it" he would easily be over. If we are talking about this current Hogan I agree fans would be saying whatsupwidat with this almost half a century old man going into a fit.
Guest mastermind Report post Posted March 21, 2002 Again, Rock would easily be over. As someone said guys of this nature just have that something that fans like about them. Maivia was a true babyface in his rookie year. Of course if it was 1987 he would be over. It's a different time so he matched his time and he got over. Just like Austin would be over. Triple H would be over as a heel and actually I think his current state he would have been a really good face back in the day because catchphrases weren't as important to pop the interviews. Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Report post Posted March 21, 2002 I think it's unfair to expect someone to be over with the crowd as a new person at the age of 50. Suppose we change this topic's title to Flair, does that change anything that's been said? I don't think so. As for 1985 Hogan, I have no doubt that would get over in the current wrestling world. His superman/hulkup character was really not much different thahn Goldberg who was massively over for a while, and Hogan is 1. a better talker and 2. a better wrestler (especially back in the 80s where he worked some nice matches with Bockwinkle in the AWA and Savage in the WWF, among others).
