Eh, critics and the academy have a hard-on for musicals, which is why it got the award. Though I can't elaborate on Chicago, since I've never seen it and probably never will.

 

But I typically hate musicals, unless done in a silly, comical fashion in which they don't take themselves too seriously or aren't so pretentious.
