Guest Renegade Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Ron Welty, drummer with The Offspring for more than 15 years, has announced that he has quit the band. "After more than 15 great years with The Offspring I've decided to leave to devote all my energies to a new project called Steady Ground," Ron explained in a statement on the band's web site, www.offspring.com. "I wish Dexter, Noodles and Greg the best of luck moving forward, and it's time for me to focus on my own thing." Frontman Brian 'Dexter' Holland also issued a statement on the matter: "After being together so long it will be weird doing stuff without Ron, but we are really looking forward to putting this new record out. We wish him the best." Ex-Guns N' Roses and current Vandals / A Perfect Circle tub thumper Josh Freese has stepped in to cover while the band record their forthcoming new studio album.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 I heard this a couple weeks ago. Doesn't break my heart, but I'm a big Josh Freese fan and a big Vandals fan. So this works out I guess. And he was barely doing anything with GNR.
Guest Nanks Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 Oh no, damnit. I liked Welty, still a drummer like Freese could give some of their stuff a kind of harder edge if they let him improvise. Can't wait for the new album. Any word on release date??
