Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted March 28, 2003 On the radio I heard "wherever I may roam" symphony version, and it sounds like a poor man's black metal band. Is this a coincidence? Oh and has James Hetfield ALWAYS sucked with live vocals?? I mean seriously, I have never seen them in concert because ever since Load/ReLoad I never felt like paying money to see them, but did he suck with vocals back in the 80's/early 90's like he does now?? I'd have to say that the pinnacle of his voice would be around 1989, as he still had the feel of the first four albums and was starting to turn into modern-day Hetfield voice-wise. Seeing as how the band and the symphony hooked up to try something new (considering most other bands with symphonies in their songs write the songs WITH the symphony in mind, this was a mildly newer concept), I doubt they were trying to steal "Black Metal thunder." It's possible, though...but Metallica isn't Pantera, so they don't give two shits about what's going on in the metal underground. I suggest buying the Live Shit: Binge & Purge re-release with the 3 CDs and 2 DVDs. One DVD is a show from 1989 in Seattle, and the other DVD is a show from 1992 in Los Angeles. LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2003 I thought James' vocals on S&M were just fine. Maybe I'm the only one. You can hear the progression of his voice. On ...And Justice for All his voice was almost asking for a change. Some of the songs on that album seemed to be screaming out for just a little more melody in the voice. And I like James' singing voice better than his old voice. I also liked Load and Reload. Man I'm weird. But I love their old stuff too.
