Guest Posted March 21, 2002 Report Posted March 21, 2002 Two matches stand out for me where I expected at least ****1/2 action and it just didn't happen. My biggest disappointment was a Tokyo Dome match pitting The Steiners against Keiji Mutoh and Hiroshi Hase. It's not bad and Scott Steiner pulled out that freaky vertical suplex into a piledriver but it's not even close to what it should've been. Also that Shawn Michaels/Mr.Perfect match (was it SummerSlam'93?) is one of those matches where you wonder what went wrong.
Guest Ace309 Posted March 21, 2002 Report Posted March 21, 2002 I'm gonna get reamed for this one. Beefcake/Perfect, WMVI. I was in about second grade and I was expecting Beefcake to just run amok all over Perfect (who was still "undefeated" going into that match), slap on the sleeper and cut his hair. Beefcake wins with a lazy-ass slingshot into the pole, and then DOESN'T CUT PERFECT'S HAIR! WTF?! Although that slingshot was the first semblance of psychology that I ever understood, since I believe Hogan and a few other guys used it to take Perfect out after that.
Guest DEEP THOUGHT Posted March 21, 2002 Report Posted March 21, 2002 I was expecting Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania XII to be around *****, but after watching it, I can't even give it ****. It was 20+ minutes of armbars, no #### falls (why couldn't Michaels job first? He knew he was going to win the match anyways.) and a bullshit finish. Maybe ***1/2 at the most. I was somewhat disappointed in the Ric Flair/Bret Hart match in 1992 where Bret won the WWF title for the first time. But then again Ric was apparently in poor health at the time and thankfully choose to job the title rather than make an "I've lost my smile" speech and drop the title.
Guest converge241 Posted March 21, 2002 Report Posted March 21, 2002 Hogan - Sting starrcade 97 I wasnt expecting Flair-steamboat, but maybe at lease a Warrior-Hogan where they could at least choreograph a good match. Just awful after all that hype and hope. Bret-Austin Revenge Of the Taker the WM13 rematch, lame ending. I understand that they were protecting both guys but there must have been a better way.
Guest Tony149 Posted March 21, 2002 Report Posted March 21, 2002 I also have to say the Bret/Shawn Iron-Man match from WM XII (12). I wonder why the WWF didn't have them do a double pin ie. have HBK use a German Suplex, but both guys shoulders are down. Resulting in a fall for both guys. Nobody jobs first, as they both job at the same time. Sting vs. Hogan - Starrcade '97. No ifs, ands, or buts...this should of been a squash for Sting. Sting beats the shit out of Hogan, wins the WCW Title, the nWo have a fall out and break up on Nitro. The whole show was booked wrong.
Guest dreamer420 Posted March 21, 2002 Report Posted March 21, 2002 I was let down by the Hart/Michaels Iron Man match as well. There is so much stalling, restholds, and breaks that the match actually breaks down to about 30 minutes of good straight wrestling.
Guest Some Guy Posted March 22, 2002 Report Posted March 22, 2002 Hart/Michaels was a little too slow for me. Austin/Michaels at Mania 14 was excellent, although HBK's bad back and Austin's neck held it back from being the ***** classic it should have been. Their match from KOTR was better, except for the bullshit finish.
Guest dreamer420 Posted March 22, 2002 Report Posted March 22, 2002 I thought Austin/Michaels was a **** match and wasn't too disappointed with it because I knew of Shawn's bad back going into it. Even though HBK is a d-bag he did put in one #### of an effort in that match and he earned my respect.
Guest nWoScorpion Posted March 22, 2002 Report Posted March 22, 2002 Definitly Hogan vs. sting Starrcade 1997
Guest goodhelmet Posted March 22, 2002 Report Posted March 22, 2002 I was let down by the entire Starrcade 97 card At WM18- Booker-Edge, Christian-DDP, Hall-Austin At Invasion, the 10 man was below average After reading reviews on the net, I expected Canadien Stampede to be a ***** classic. It wasn't. Insane heat but the wrestling was thin. sounds like Rock-Hogan
Guest teke184 Posted March 22, 2002 Report Posted March 22, 2002 Any Austin-Jericho match Bret-HBK Ironman Match Wrestlemania 9 in general Austin-Angle at Vengeance (not bad, but nothing compared to the classic matches they'd had throughout 2001)
Guest Metallica Posted March 22, 2002 Report Posted March 22, 2002 Biggest disapointment for me was Shawn Vs Bret at SSeries 97. At the time, I didn't have a clue what happened with the finish..after 18 mths of build up, that was not what I wanted! ???
Guest Drury37 Posted March 22, 2002 Report Posted March 22, 2002 I will probably get ripped for this one but anyways here it goes, The Undertaker Vs. the Big Bossman(HIAC)at WWF WrestleMania XV,it's a cell match it should be good but this was just horrible. Thanks.
Guest muzanisa Posted March 23, 2002 Report Posted March 23, 2002 Cactus Jack Sabu It was an indie show and I spent ages getting a tape for a average match.
Guest The Man They Call Texas Blu Posted March 23, 2002 Report Posted March 23, 2002 Foley, Big Show, Rock, HHH- Wrestlemania 2000. Without a doubt the most disappointing match I have ever seen. They should have just let Foley go after No Way Out. It was the perfect ending to his career, and this match spoiled it.
Guest RepoMan Posted March 24, 2002 Report Posted March 24, 2002 Heart and HBk at WM XII(?) It was so boring. I was expecting like a 3-2 score, but it was an hour of mat wrestling. That style has it's place, but not for a whole hour. Also, I was really dissapointed by Jericho-HHH at WM this year.
Guest thebear Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Two Reasons Stick out in my mind to why the 96 Ironman Match keeps getting the what might have been type questions... The First Thing With Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels that sticks out in my mind, was that it was an 80's type of match... much like the Flair/Steamboat series in the late 80's... It took time to develop the match, and to look back on the match now, after 6 years, with many fans being subjected to crash style of television... The other is that neither seemed to want to take the first fall, which is a reason why they seemed to take thier time... with Triple H and the rock, they were able to go 80-90 percent the whole match, because they had a fall averaging every 5 and a half minutes... it's funny though, because the bret/shawn ironman match will be the first match in history that will be remembered as a 4* disappointment
Guest The Son of Sting Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 The whole Invasion ppv Hogan v Sting Bret Hart v Goldberg
Guest MARTYEWR Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Almost every HHH-Angle match done. They've had some good matches, but nothing great, which is what I'd expect. HBK-Perfect from Summerslam 93. Of course, this can be attributed to Perfect's declining health, but I expected so much more out of this match. HBK-Bret, Wrestlemania XII for all the same reasons already listed.
