Guest teke184 Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 Don had it in for Norm and James Downey since one. Norm's last WU is one of my all time favourites. I don't recall his 97-98 WUs as being subpar- I know everyone slags on the Fraser WU but I don't remember that one. The Brendan Frasier one was subpar because the audience was pissed about sitting on their asses waiting for the World Series to finish up. Certain ones of them were actively booing stuff all night.
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 Here's a topic I'm suprised no one has brought up: Does anyone else think Weekend Update has lost a bit of it's luster, because The Daily Show took it's gimmick and did it 1,000 times better? Kilborn was about as good as Nealon and I laugh more at Jon Stewart then I ever did at Norm.
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 Keeping in mind I'm not an SNL geek like Bob or some of you other guys... Top 5: 1) Miller 2) Akroyd/Murray/Curtain 3) Fey/Fallon 4) Chevy 5) Norm Although, depending on my mood, Nealon could take the 5 spot. Not real big on Norm as the WU anchor.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 Here's a bonus question: Who was the best reccurring character on Weekend Update? I have to go old school with Father Guido Sarduci. Great premise and character and he always had choice material.
Guest bob_barron Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 I'm a big mark for Lenny the Lion.

I recall he had his own sketchs, in addition to occaisional WE appearances. The one with Leslie Nealson springs to mind.
Guest bob_barron Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 Gary Macdonald was also GOLD. McKinney was just criminially misused
