This is such a good movie. Every concept is spectacular. The action and drama scenes are very well made. Cage and Travolta are fabulous. Also I can't believe anyone no one nominated Gina Gershon for Miss Smartmarks. DAMN she's fine in this movie.

I dunno if it was underrated. Certainly it's John Woo's best American film to date...

Favorite line by Travolta as Cage "I can eat a peach for hours"

Hardly underrated, in my opinion. Everyone loves the shit out of it if they've seen it. I don't like it all that much personally... though it did make me wonder if it would be incest if you fuck your father but it's somebody else in his body.

Easily Woo'd best American film, yeah.

Face Off is one of the stupidest movies I've ever seen. It's a shame that Hong Kong John Woo died, that guy could've made some more great action movies. Up until the boat scene it was just bad and boring. The fact that the supposed action master had to steal an entire scene shot by shot from another movie made the movie pitiful. I can't think of one good thing that was in that piece of shit. I still think Hard Target is Woo's best American movie which makes it all the more pitiful.

I liked Face Off. But, it definately wasn't his best film. It was his best American film, though. I gave it about 31/2 stars. The Killer is my favorite film by John Woo, closely followed by Hard Boiled. I think that Woo had way more freedom in Hong Kong. In America, directors will often get their wings clipped.

I guess I was the only one who enjoyed M-I-2

A Better Tomorrow was John Woo's best.

It had a great plot. Fantastic perfomances by all the leads, and it used kick-ass slo-mo gunfighting to ENHANCE the story; not to BE the story.

Face/Off is fun if you turn your brain off. Cage and Travolta are having an absolute ball in it and two charismatic actors cutting loose is always good for entertainment if nothing else. Some segments did seem like a crib sheet of Woo's Hong Kong films, but if you're unfamiliar with them it actually makes a good primer to his work.

Hard Target is Jean Claude Van Damme's best movie outside of Bloodsport and Kickboxer and a lot of that has to do with Woo's direction and action sequences. I don't really mind Broken Arrow, but again it feels like a bit of a crib on his other movies. I hear Windtalkers is good, but haven't seen it.

Wow, I thought Face/Off was a steaming pile of ridiculous crap.

It's not bad whenever I want to turn my brain off for a few hours...

I'll agree that it's his best American movie to date. I'd say The Killer is his best HK movie.

By the time Face/Off came out I was so starved for ANYTHING resembling the HK John Woo I went and saw Face/Off three more times in the theater. But it's really not all that great. It was just a refreshing trip halfway back to his HK days after the ultra-disappointing Broken Arrow.

I saw Con Air in the theater 6 times, still a personal record. I'd agree with the Killer as Woo's best movie. Personally I'd say Broken Arrow was his worst overall.

I didn't go to Face/OFF because of the Director...I went because it had TWO great charismatic actors in a movie with a interesting premise.

I never cared much for Those Woo "La-La-La" movies...

I don't get into Forigen Action movies because most of it is contrived.

It's kind of ironic. In Hong Kong, you get a $5-$10 million budget and are told to make the most of it. In the US, you get a $50-$100 million budget and you're handcuffed by producers, studios and stars. At the same time, I don't think that's the entire reason for Woo's US movies being a bit lacklustre.

That's because it is. To me, turning off your brain doesn't mean a thing. To me a movie is good if it's good on any level. Entertain me with stupidity like Charlies Angels and I'll love it. Entertain me with brilliance like Memento and I'll love it. Entertain me by just being really bad and that's good enough. Just as long as I'm entertained for 2 hours and don't regret wasting my time. Not only did Face Off make me regret watching it, it made me regret being born.

Though it's not as bad as MI2 of course.

Anyone who says Face/Off is John Woo's best American movie obviously doesn't know shit about John Woo. This was such a watered down, cheesy, lame ass film, and the beginning of Woo completely abandoning his personal style so he could "make it" in Hollywood. Of course, he followed it up with the even worse M:I 2, which was even more watered down. If you really want to see what he can do as a director before he was artistically castrated, watch Hard Target (his best U.S. film) and Broken Arrow.

This is like taking several piles of shit and trying to judge which one is the most fun to look at.

I can't believe you said Broken Arrow. Hard Target, whatever, but Broken fucking Arrow?

I agree with it being a "transition" film for Woo, but that was what made it a fun movie. He managed to mesh the HK style with the US one. Sadly, he never really tried to tweak it, and went on to MI:2, of which I agree with most of the people here - it was the drizzling shits. (As a side note, Dougray Scott is probably kicking himself for ditching X-Men in favour of MI:2).

Hard Target felt more like a Van Damme movie than a John Woo movie. Interpret that any way you want.

I thought Hard Target was a Wilfred Brimley movie myself. I feel like checking my blood sugar every time I watch it.
