Analysis of the Lesnar incident

Well...I downloaded the clip, and Im gonna say it was a distance issue, but, had Kurt been any closer it probably would have ended up much worse because I dont think Brock had it even close to begin with from the start.

More respect to Billy Kidman, even though he usually does his right in the corner...just be glad Brock didn't mess his up like that one Kidman did in WCW that they showed on Confidential a couple weeks back.

Since about 99% of the WWE fans have never seen him do it before, why in the hell did they even need to attempt to make it that long of a distance. Just him executing the manuever would put marks on their feet.

Well, they got on their feet, but they were visibily thinking "Is he alright?" or "Is he alive?" instead of "Holy shit I can't believe he did that!"

At least this will cease the "Will Brock debut the SSP?" threads that show up every month just before the PPV.

If you watch the clip, you'll notice that he double-clutches the takeoff. He takes a little bounce, and then basically tried to execute the move without falling off the ropes. For him, it was likely a choice between jumping down for safety and killing the spot dead, or continuing the move and taking a chance on whether it would hit. I'm sure people would say he made the wrong choice, but I doubt any wrestler would think of their safety first while performing the finishing spot in the main event at Wrestlemania.

He just choked on the takeoff and didn't get enough height because he didn't have the full force of his legs going into the jump. It's really too bad, but thank goodness he's alive and moving. A stinger beats the hell out of paralysis.

I was there live and right after Brock and Kurt hugged and the show went off the air, like 3 trainers rushed out to the ring to check on Brock. He appeared to be somewhat okay and he was able to get back on his feet and walk back on his own.

After watching the move and replays ad nauseam I've gotta agree with mick. First, Angle was WAY to damn far away. 2/3 of the way across the ring on a move that few can do correctly in the first place is too damn far. Brock could've pulled Kurt closer in after the F5. Then maybe Brock would have worried more about height than distance on his jump. Second, it looks to me as well that just as Brock gets set to jump he gets second thoughts, but realizes that it's too late to pull back. Like mick said, it almost looked like a double clutch that didn't quite stop him. That threw off his timing (late on the rotation) and looked like it damn near could've been a candidate for one of those stupid Faces of Death videos.

It was an awsome visual and I really do hope that Brock pulls it out again sometime, but I also hope they plan it out a bit better.

I think at the end of what was a physcial and decent paced match (not slow) that Brock must have been tired, which didn't help the SSP.

Plus Angle was way too far away.

I hope we can consider that move retired.

Brock definately has a concussion after that, 300 pounds dropping on your head guarantees that. Hopefully that's all there is.

One thing I couldn't figure out from the replays was how Angle rolled out of the way. It was obviously the planned finish, but at the last second he rolled out. Did he see that Brock didn't turn and rolled to save his own life, or what? I was too much in shock of what I saw to pay attention to that.

One thing I was wondering is what does this do to Brock mentally. I don't know his history, but this is his first WWE serious incident and injury. The busted ribs may have been bad, but he was able to work through them, so they must not have bothered him too much. I'm just wondering if he can get over the shock and fear of almost paralyzing or killing himself in the ring.

Kind of a ironic thing...but during the opening video package, Brock says "My favorite Wrestlemania moment has yet to be seen."

I guess we'll have to wait til next year.

Well, pretty much since the day he debuted, people have said he should break out the SSP at WM.

So we get there last night, Brock's first WM. He's in the last match of the night... WWE Championship match vs. Kurt Angle, basically just about the biggest stage you can be on. If you are EVER going to break out that move for a special occasion, this is it.

It was really too bad that he didn't actually land it, but I think you have to give credit to everybody involved for smoothing out the finish despite the mistake. Nice cover.

As was previously mentioned, all he had to do was jump from the corner nearest to Angle. As soon as I saw him going to the furthest corner away, I just said "Uh oh... no way." And there you go. True, the way he landed, BOTH guys could've been hurt even worse if Angle had been closer, but I also think that if Angle WAS closer, Brock could've hit the move more cleanly. He had to alter his jump to go OUT instead of UP and that resulted in the face-first landing. Look at Brock's face when he gets on the top rope. It's like "Oh shit, this is a little further than I thought."

He had some SERIOUS balls to go for that, but it was just too bad that he didn't land it. I just hope Brock's OK.

Angle moved away after Brock hit him. It was probably just instinct to make it look like he rolled out of the way last second.

Anyway, I feel really bad for Brock. He can probably do that move in his sleep, and it seemed to be one of those mental issues, because like some pointed out, he hesitated before doing the move.

Look at this picture of Lesnar, you can clearly see the glaze..

You can't say that if he moved to the closer turnbuckle, he could have landed it better with the same botched version. If he would have decided to move closer, he may have hit it perfectly. He has tighter ropes than indy feds and the most pressure I can ever remember being on a guy. He fucked up and I don't think he was "crying in the ambulance", according to one report after the show because of the pain but rather the knowledge that he blew the grand finale of his big night. I wish Borck the best, I have been nothing short of impressed with his ring work since he has come in and started growing as a performer.

Brock sat in corner for like 5 minutes after the match with a dazed look in his eyes. I couldn't tell if he was just fucked up or he was thinking "Holy piss I almost killed myself!"

I'm sure it was a little of both, leaning more toward the fucked-up side.

If only he'd pushed himself more forward than up, he might have been able to tuck his knees in for the flip. As it stands, it will take a lot of mental rehab to get him to do it again, if ever.

The question now is - will Brock ever recover mentally? Physically he's a beast, worst case he's out for a few months after jobbing the belt to Benoit next smackdown.

Will Brock get turned into Lex Luger? It seems like you only get one chance to become a great draw, one push...as sad as it seems, he choked and he may never reach Austin-like status, only Sid.

When you miss the move, you miss it on your neck. If you hit it, you hit it right on the chest.

Also at one point he reaches to grab his belt and at first, he can't quite do it!

From the early reports it sounds like he has a concussion, which is understandable. Hopefully that's all. And maybe a 'stinger'

I feel for the guy, he protected Angle like a pro AND worked a great match. He deserved better than this

from me it looks as though he makes it all the wat round but he butts angle in the hip as he lands. Thats what gives him the concussion.

If angle had been a couple of feet closer it would have been nailed.

Brock Lesnar suffered a concussion but nothing apparently more serious when he landed on his head attempting a shooting star press last night. His neck is very sore and stiff today but the injuries were not as bad as originally feared.

I think that it came right down to nerves. Brock had a lot riding on this match and a lot of responsibility during it. The guy is still a rookie and you can't expect him to perform like Benoit, Austin, Jeircho, etc.

Either way, the match was fantastic and fortunately no one was severely injured.

That was the best match Brock has ever had period and Angle didn't need to carry him that much, but that was a stupid idea of his doing the SSP on the biggest match of his career, you could tell the rookie got nervous and made a blunder.

Brock will never be allowed to try the move again in a match, so forget about that.

I dont think so... thats the kind of thing where next year he might say god damnit, I'm going to give them the spot they deserve. Sure that takes a lot of balls too, but its just as likely that he wants to get back up on the horse that threw him.

I think they'll use it as more of a tease than anything, with him going up and getting shoved off. But yeah, I wouldn't try that one again.

I wouldn't mind if he dusted it off next year at Mania. I'm sure he'd be better prepared since the pressure of doing it for the first time in the ME at his first Mania has been lifted (albeit with less than spectacular results). No doubt the crowd would remember the last one, which would create so much tension and drama (especially if it was teased first) that once he hits it, the roof would blow off of every house in the free world.

Maybe he can convince Goldberg to try it…
