Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted April 1, 2003 What does everyone think of this song? I never much cared for it, due to the lack of Axl on lead vocals, but I had the CD in the car stereo on the way home from classes and I'm getting seriously into it. Guest Lethargic Report post Posted April 1, 2003 One of my favorites of theirs. Any song written mostly by Izzy is usually my favorite. It's great that he had the balls to write a song about Axl while still in the band and even get Axl to do backup on it.
HurriShane 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2003 I think it's an ok song, probably one of the top 5 or 6 songs off the CD. But I don't think it's anything too special. Give me Civil War over that any day.
Guest Respect The 'Taker Report post Posted April 2, 2003 If you've heard any of Izzy's solo work you'll know that's just the typical Izzy Stradlin' song. Not to say it is a bad thing however, as I love that song, despite missing Axl's vocals in the lead position. Great song but there are better on the album. UYI P.S Have you READ that bullshit posted by Elv1s on Offspring taking Axl's album name? Dexter's reason for doing so is because Axl 'ripped off his braids'. What a crock of shit. I guess the fucking moron is forgetting the other million people who have that hair style as well. What's he gonna do next? Change his name to Dexter Rose just to get even? Fuck off. I hate The Offspring. I hope a giant anvil is dropped on Dexter's house. A big, giant anvil. UYI
Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted April 2, 2003 How is 14 Years about Axl? (I was only about eight years old when UYI II came out). UYI: I think it sucks that Offspring took the name, but I find it a little bit funny that after eight years or so of Axl and co. yapping about it, someone goes and takes the name on them. Almost like Karma for Axl messing up the big North American Tour. As much as I'm liking 14 years, nothing will top Civil War on UYI II
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted April 2, 2003 The song is all about Axl. 14 years was how long Izzy had been with him at the time. It was basically Izzy getting sick of Axl and getting ready to quit and saying it in song. Wasn't very long afterwards that he did quit. It was about watching his best friend become a egotistical rock crybaby superstar over the last few years that he didn't even know anymore. I remember everybody knowing about this song before the CDs came out and was waiting to hear how bad it was. This is probably what makes it one of my favorites. It's the most real, pissed off, emotional song on there cause he's going right at the guy. Just reading these lyrics, without knowing the story, it should be obvious.... I try and feel the sunshine You bring the rain You try and hold me down With your complaints You cry and moan and complain You whine and tear Up to my neck in sorrow The touch you bring You just don’t step inside to 14 years So hard to keep my own head... That’s what I say You know...I’ve been the beggar... I’ve played the thief I was the dog...they all tried to beat But it’s been 14 years of silence It’s been 14 years of pain It’s been 14 years that are gone forever And I’ll never have again Your stupid girlfriends tell you That I’m to blame Well they’re all used-up has-beens Out of the game This time I’ll have the last word You hear what I say I tried to see it your way It won’t work today You just don’t step inside to 14 years So hard to keep my own head... That’s what I say You know...I’ve been the dealer... Hangin’ on your street I was the dog...they all tried to beat But it’s been 14 years of silence It’s been 14 years of pain It’s been 14 years that are gone forever And I’ll never have again Bullshit and contemplation Gossip’s their trade If they knew half the real truth What would they say Well I’m past the point of concern It’s time to play These last 4 years of madness Sure put me straight Don’t get back 14 years In just one day So hard to keep my own head Just go away You know...just like a hooker she said Nothin’s for free Oh I tried to see it your way I tried to see it your way
Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted April 2, 2003 The Offspring stealing Axl & The Guys Who Think They Are Guns 'n Roses' album title is just so fucking hillarious, especially because of who it is that Dexter Holland is ripping off. Primadonna fuck.
