Guest notJames Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 Many in WWE are fearing massive layoffs, possibly as early as this Friday. WWE is expected to get the preliminary WrestleMania buyrate from DirecTV on Friday and will be able to estimate the overall number. Traditionally, WWE has fired a lot of employees following WrestleMania, a time often referred to by WWE employees as "spring cleaning." With WWE's recent decline, a bad WrestleMania buyrate could cause bigger than usual layoffs. Some fear that as much as 10% of the workforce could be fired. The general feeling is that with a high profile guy like Kevin Kelly being fired last week, everyone's job is in question. Credit: 1bob Wonderful. They'd probably have more capital if they didn't keep hiring guys to huge money deals with no upside. Kevin Kelly was the initial blow. To quote a tired old lame-ass phrase, "Who's next?"
Guest Brian Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 To quote a tired old lame-ass phrase, "Who's next?" Ironic, ehh?
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 a high profile guy like Kevin Kelly who?
Guest WhenDanSaysJump Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 The general feeling is that with a high profile guy like Kevin Kelly being fired last week, everyone's job is in question. Since when did Kevin f'n Kelly constitute a high-profile guy?
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 ...of course, paying Steiner, Goldberg, and Nash their ginormous paychecks isn't a problem. Sup, lousy economists?
Guest Brian Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 Kelly's been with the company for a long time and had significant on-air time.
Guest MaxPower27 Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 I can see Mark Henry, Gayda, Test, and Crash getting the boot. Various refs and announcers (CHRIS LEARY) could also get the boot. I don't think that it'll be that bad.
Guest Brian Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 Henry's not going anywhere, or else they would have dropped him already. They've tried to get him to quit but he isn't stupid.
Guest MaxPower27 Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 If Henry won't quit, they'd have to fire him, so FIRE HIM. God, he's been paid for the last few years to sit in OVW and 'learn how to wrestle'. When he came back up, they had him lifting cars to little or no reaction. Christ, fish or cut bait with the guy.

But WWE would be out an insane amount of money - they have to at least TRY to break even with him
Guest nWoScorpion Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 to my memory, Kevin Kelly started working with WWF in mid-late 1996, so he is like a veteran to WWE broadcasting. Michael Cole should get the boot. 1/10000 people think he sucks, and hes useless. Who I Want To (and some I dont that have a shot at going): Spike Dudley Crash Funaki Tajiri Some Referees i care less for Rikishi (i wish) Tough Enough 2 losers (who actually won, ugh) Jeff Hardy Scott Steiner Bill Demott Chuck Palumbo Scotty 2 Hotty (probably gonna retire anyway)
Guest HartFan86 Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 They need to clear out OVW and bring the good talent up, and get rid of the bad talent. Same with Velocity/Heat. Those shows are a fucking mess.
Guest MaxPower27 Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 They have tried. He was given the Euro-trash title a few years ago, and did NOTHING. He was given a good shot recently on Smackdown, and did NOTHING before getting hurt. I know he probably won't get released, because that would mean that Vince is wrong. And he never is.
Guest nWoScorpion Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 And as mentioned before, if Vince fired Henry, he would have to pay him for 3 years work, because his contract isn't up til summer of 2006, so its best just to keep him around doing random stuff for the money then just firing him and having him sit on his ass for three years and getting the money anyway.
Guest Brian Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 Henry has to agree to the buyout. He can't be fired for no reason, he'd need a cycle clause like some of the lesser guys.
Guest nWoScorpion Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 FIRE THE BIG SHOW! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE!
Guest MaxPower27 Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 Henry has to agree to the buyout. He can't be fired for no reason, he'd need a cycle clause like some of the lesser guys. Now I realize that he can't be fired, but what can he do for 3 years? Wash Vince's car?
Guest RickyB Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 Michael Cole should get the boot. 1/10000 people think he sucks, and hes useless. Michael Cole isn't too bad and has improved a lot lately, now Johnothan Coachman on the other hand...
Guest Will Scarlet Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 Michael Cole should get the boot. 1/10000 people think he sucks, and hes useless. I doubt Cole will be. He has improved as an announcer and isn't he the guy who makes all those awesome video packages the WWE has? I'd assume he would be too valuable to fire, considering.
Guest nWoScorpion Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 Well Coach is a lot worse, but his voice isnt THAT annoying and he doesnt fuck up so much. (I was un-aware that a clean pin was stealing a victory)
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 Wow...and we all watch as Jerry Jarrett opens up his checkbook...
Guest Bruiser Chong Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 Fire the shitty writers. I think that a wrestling company needs to have at least one writer, though.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted April 2, 2003 Report Posted April 2, 2003 Cole's the best play by play guy in the WWF. Pretty sad, isn't it?
Guest Mad Dog Posted April 2, 2003 Report Posted April 2, 2003 I doubt any on air guys or wrestlers are getting the axe. Probably a lot of gofors and low level management will be axed. And if they tried to fire Big Show they'd have to pay out 6 or 7 years on a huge contract.
Guest Blue Bacchus Posted April 2, 2003 Report Posted April 2, 2003 I'd imagine the WWE wishes life was a little more like EWR. Just keep sending a guy down the card till he wants out.
Guest El Psycho Diablo Posted April 2, 2003 Report Posted April 2, 2003 Cole, with his voice, boyband look, and fuckups..is STILL ten thousand times better than Jim "I *heart* Albert" Ross.
