Guest Mattdotcom Posted April 3, 2003 Report Posted April 3, 2003 I've been sick this week and busting out old tapes when a question popped into my head. In this day and age, when every Raw gives Lilian Garcia a chance to screw up a line, has Howard Finkle ever messed up an introduction? In all my years watching wrestling, I can never remember him doing it. Has he?
Guest Eagan469 Posted April 3, 2003 Report Posted April 3, 2003 I remember he sometimes had to catch himself, and his voice cracked a few times, but nothing major. Now Lilian on the other hand...
Guest T®ITEC Posted April 3, 2003 Report Posted April 3, 2003 I can't remember a time where Finkle has butchered an entrance in the same sense as Lillian. Unrelated: Though, he did refer to my friend's birth control package as a "powderpuff" when she met him at a house show last September. Good times.
cawthon777 Posted April 3, 2003 Report Posted April 3, 2003 He's flubbed. No one's perfect. I don't have specifics, but I've read a few house show reports where he messed up something.
Guest MillenniumMan831 Posted April 3, 2003 Report Posted April 3, 2003 Can't think of any, but I'll always mark out when I hear, "The winner of this bout, and NEWWWWWW . . ." Just as long as HHH doesn't come after that, it's all good.
Guest WhenDanSaysJump Posted April 3, 2003 Report Posted April 3, 2003 I don't recall any Fink screwups, but I do remember Tony Chimel at Summerslam 98 announcing the NAO/Mankind match thusly : "The following contest is a pinfalls match count anywhere..." Que?
Guest Askewniverse Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 At Judgment Day 2000, Fink announced both Rock and HHH as the WWF champion. That's the only instance of Howard messing up that I can recall.
HurriShane Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 At a house show I went to in 99 I think, he announced the NAO as Road Dogg Billy Gunn and Badd Ass Jesse James.
Guest tank_abbott Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 he annonced Bret hart as the winner in the middle of the BBBigelow/Hart KOR 93 finals, (After the Luna run-in)but that may have just been to add a dramatic moment to the match
Guest bravesfan Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 If anyone has the Survivor Series 2001 DVD, Finkel has a rare title flub...and it is horribly edited. IIRC, the Hardy Boys (WCW Tag Champions) and Dudley Boys (WWF Tag Champions) were doing a cage match do decide the unification of the titles. At the PPV, Finkel announced the Hardys as the WWF tag champs, and the Dudleys as the WCW Tag Champs. On the DVD, Finkel's introduction of each team's titles are edited correctly, but it's set with no crowd noise edited in "to cover up" the post-production edit, so it sounds like Finkel is announcing in an empty hallway.
Guest Aero Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 At Judgment Day 2000, Fink announced both Rock and HHH as the WWF champion. That's the only instance of Howard messing up that I can recall. Although not a flub, I love the final announcement of the Iron Man match, after the time expires. He starts to say "The Winner of the match.... (and the crowd goes dead silent)... and NEWWWWW (the crowd suddenly all groans and jeers) WWF Champion... HHH!" Of course, HHH was a killer heel at this point.
Guest Frankie Williams Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 At Mania 1, when Wendi Richter beat Lelani Kai for the womans title, Fink gave the result like this.... "The winner of this match, and NEEEEEW WWF womans champion, THE......(uncomfortable pause)......Wendi Richter!!" Obviously he was going to announce The Fabulous Moolah who was in Kai's corner.
Guest wayzing Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 Hate to pick on a legend like The Fink. He's added so much to the introductions over the years but what the fink... On a show that was released commercially in Europe at least (through Silver Vision), I think it's the first UK Rampage, there's a match between Jim Neidhart and Warlord (insert falling asleep smiley here) and Finkel introduces Warlord as Jim the anv... goes completely silent, waits for a while and starts from the beginning.
Guest The Hollywood Fashion Plate Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 In RVD's debut match on RAW in '97, he announces Jeff Hardy: "And his opponent, from.......Virginia..." Oops. Not like anyone knew or cared back then, but still...
