Dear AIM users,Because of our overloading of our servers, we are being forced to extract our non-active AIM users. Because this is a free service, AOL has exceeded the budget for the AIM service. We are asking that you send this exact message to 20 other AIM users to ensure us that you're an active AIM user. Our system tracking devise will pick up this message to keep you on our active list. You have 72 hours to complete this task or your service will be cancelled immediately. Starting April 9, 2003, we will be charging a small fee for registering of a screen name for AIM. Thank you for your time and for using AOL or AIM.

Sincerely,

Mark Jenkins

AOL Time Warner

I'm guessing false. Just doesn't seem like something that would likely occur for a chat service, especially considering that free programs of it would be downloaded anyways by second-hand sources.

I've been sent this about 15 times in the last 2 days, not sure. I think it's a joke.

That message is as real as the Outlook Express E-Mail chain letter............I bet if you send it to Steve Case, AOL will give a month of free service :hm:

They had a bunch of those for Hotmail too. I have no idea what the original sender of that is trying to accomplish.

Just remember that there's no mechanism in the software to detect that.

Additionally, I like to think the AOL-Time Warner CEO could spell and punctuate properly.

Those things have been around for years I think.

About 2 years ago (No wait, maybe more, even) I used to get like, 5 of those things a week for ICQ, until all my friends realized they were idiots.
