One Series Down.....

Recommended Posts

Guest alkeiper

Since all the teams are through with their first series, I figure I'll take a look and see what's going on.

Top Performers

Minnesota Twins

Montreal Expos

Both teams allowed a total of two runs in their first three games. Montreal is especially notable for bitchslapping the defending divison champions, in their own park. (Apologies to Braves fans, but the numbers don't lie. Go Phillies.)

New York Yankees

Despite losing Jeter, swept the Blue Jays in Toronto.

Pittsburgh Pirates

Surprised everyone by sweeping the Reds in Cincinnati, in their new ballpark.

Notable Individuals

Reggie Sanders. 7/11, with 3 home runs.

Shea Hillenbrand. Somehow leads the league in RBI, despite a .375 SLG pct. How did he do it? Well the other guys in front of him reached base often. Note the value of OBP.

Jim Thome. Leads league in batting average, and quickly winning the hearts of the phickle phillies fans.

Upcoming

A few closers turned starters get their first starts today. Keep an eye on Byung-Hyun Kim in Colorado, and Danny Graves in Cincinnati. Darren Dreifort pitches for the first time since June of 2001, and David Cone returns for the Mets this evening. In my personal favorite game, 60,000+ pack the Vet for the Phillies home opener against the Pirates.

Not a good sign for either the Reds or their fans. Yeah, yeah, I know, it's only the first series and blah, blah, blah. But it speaks about how overrated (by many) the Reds really are; that starting rotation is W-E-A-K.

Perhaps the best thing about it though is that Harold Reynolds is going to end up looking like a big-time jackass for picking the Reds to take the Central. What the hell was he thinking?

I'm surprised with the Cubs taking 2/3 from the Mets.

I mean, I knew that the Cubs were improving, but 15-2 on opening day?!

Another thing about the Reds is that the new park is going to be a big time hitters park. That's good for the Reds because they have a lot of potential 30 HR hitters, that's awful for the Reds because their staff is filled mostly with guys who shouldn't be in the bigs yet/anymore

It's gonna be another "hope to win, expect to lose" year for the Cubs. I wish Sammy would get #500 already.

I dont know what happened to my Pirates. They won again in another 9 run performance, only allowing one run. Reggie Sanders added another home run and 4 more RBIs. They started 5-1 last year, though, so I still expect them to cool off big time. The may not lose 90 games this year though.

How many teams off to suprise starts do you see playing well all season. I'd say the Pirates have the best chance to finish around .500.

When the Pirates can score on you like they did to Cincy, that just shows how awful the Reds' pitching staff is...

The Pirates have Kevin Millwood to face today, so we'll see how good they really are.

The first REAL test for Pittsburgh.

Kansas City on the other hand, is nothing more than a San Diego Chargers clone. WIn lots in the beginning of the season and crap out the rest of the way, every season!

How about them Red Sox leading the league in...WALKS!?! Thank you Theo.

Sammy finally hits 500, but the Cubs lose. This basically summarizes my feelings on the Cubs in the second half of the season lately. They get so far back that all I care about is Sosa's stats.

Come on Cubbies! Don't let us down again!

Phillies 13, Pirates 1, Bottom of the 8th. So much for the winning streak.

I have a feeling we will have one of those..."Eh" seasons where all the Playoff spots are decicded early August...and It will be the same generic boring teams with no surprises...

And sense god hates me these days...He will give me another Braves chokejob for the World Series with Yanks again...and Likely blow off Junior's good leg around Late May.

I am happy my Giants are now off to a 6-0 start, just like last year, and they have won all their games on the road.

And my other favorite team, the A's are off to a solid start as well.

It's good to be a baseball fan in the Bay Area once again.

Well the Twins can't possibly lose tomorrow. The game's been cancelled already.

Tigers have played six games, and have scored six runs. I think that minor-league team from "Brewster's Millions" could beat these guys.

Hopefully, the entire series is cancelled.

Bobby Valentine is terrible on Baseball Tonight. The entire show he kissed every managers ass, and said how great every player was. Does ESPN have anyone who isn't a asskisser on Baseball tonight.

You have to include Durazo in the TOP PERFORMERS list so far. The man had 11 rbi in 5 games. He is already meeting and exceeding expectations on the A's. Hopefully he keeps it up all year.
