Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted April 4, 2003 Besides some security measures being taken at airports,(and the sale of american flags) what else has changed? I find it highly hypocritical that Bush told the american people that things have to be different now, but a week or two later, John Ascroft was going forward with the ludicrous war on drugs by "cracking down" on head shops nation-wide. It seems like the war on terrorism was being used to push the stupid war on drugs at a time that nobody wanted to question anything the administration had to say. So what has changed, on any and every level of life? (this of course is excluding us being at war with iraq, I mean on the homefront)
Guest Tyler McClelland Report post Posted April 4, 2003 We're more paranoid and nationalist. *shrug* I think anyone with a brain could've told you that we weren't really gonna change our lives after 9/11. Perhaps we hold a higher value on life (...), but that's about it.

Guest T®ITEC Report post Posted April 5, 2003 On a personal level, it permanently messed with my head. I've actually been growing up quite a lot since then, and I've altogether stopped caring about the stupid fights we teenagers seem to love so much. I don’t know how exactly; it’s as if someone hit a switch in my brain. Unrelated: I also managed to humiliate myself in class last month, when my teacher had us watch HBO's documentary about 9/11. I started crying and had to leave the room. Whoo boy.
Guest EricMM Report post Posted April 5, 2003 I think the suspicion of Arabs has soared in America. I mean there's a place in college park which is a restaurant/houka bar. It's called the Prince Cafe. They serve shish kebabs as well as shawerma and different kinds of Beryani and Tikki. It's pretty good food. But they also have two TV's that show nothing but Arabic language television. I mean it's not like they exclude people, and it's one of the only restaurants where you can smoke while you eat in college park (there's another section seperated by a door that's non smoking, nice touch) but a few people I know are still leery. Hell, I am a little more leery than I once was. I blame terrorists for doing this to me, but I also blame myself for being so shallow. It just sucks.

Guest Powerplay Report post Posted April 5, 2003 We're getting broker and cynicism is on the rise. Oh and prices are going up...on everything. We are getting broker? *Points to Russia* Talk to THEM about being broke... but gas prices are going down, not up, so there's something. We've become even more embarassing to watch with our "FUCK THE WORLD, GO USA! GO USA!, Learn to speak American Sand Niggers!" sentiments that you see all the time. Fucking ass clowns wearing those dumb Fuck Bin Laden and all that stupid shit... People are about the same...Only more dumb looking. I've also seen a real rise in "AMERCIA SUX0RS, BUSH SUX0RS, STOP THE BABYKILLERS, VIVA LA FRANCE!!" in my college area. The idiots from both sides have come out of the woodwork. I, personally, have seen far more distrust towards the Arab population, which I can rationalize but still really don't like. I can see why people wouldn't, but I think it's sad that so few people can so drastically effect our outlook on a whole race of people. Plus, there's always a kind of lingering feeling that something could happen to your family members when they go into a large, populated area. I am always nervous for my mom when she goes to Detroit, since we have a massive Arab Population not far away from it. I know that they all aren't terrorists, but I keep thinking "If a terrorist wanted to find a place to hide, that's where it'd be, and the biggest populated area is Detroit." It makes me shudder every now and then.

Guest Powerplay Report post Posted April 5, 2003 Depends on the type of nationalism. A healthy pride for one's country is okay, but jingoism never does anyone any good. More nationalism means people want to be more active in their government, which relates to better voter turnouts and more legitimate officals in office. Low nationalism, though, sparks indifference with the system, which in turn means a low voter turnout and possibly worse candidates. But take it how you see it. I've become more of a New York nationalist. The attacks made me much prouder to be from the great state of New York and I've grown to respect my home a lot more.
