I don't remember saying we should annhilate the Middle East... I could be wrong though. Please show me where.

I'm not gonna search through old threads.

It's the consensus of this board, however, that the Middle East is the problem and we need to solve it by toppling their governments and putting democratic ones in their place and stuff. It's a popular opinion, and if taken one step farther...

...paternalistic radical Islamist dictators will be out of power.

Back what up? The anti-Islamic feelings? Do I NEED to back it up?

I apologize if it was incorrect. You've displayed a chronic lack of compassion for most other countries (France in particular) and a willingness to use WMDs against countries, I figured the Middle East was just another one.

If I was wrong, forgive me.

Why does it matter if you don't care about other countries? It's not like their going out of the way to show compassion for us.

*sigh*

How many times have I said this?

Because we're the supposed GOOD GUYS. Because we act like we have a mandate from God in whatever we do, and therefore, WE must ensure that the entire world is stable and peaceful. WE are trying to make this world a better place, and therefore, we MUST take into account other countries' thoughts and feelings. Else, we're no better than they are.

We are the good guys. It's just that we can't decide foreign policy by what France and Germany thinks.

Actually, they did. It's just that Bush has squandred it all away in the past year.

It's all because of Bush. None of them blame can be placed on the rest of the world.

As the GOOD GUYS, we have to work to keep that. That's why we can't just say "Fuck them" as you're suggesting.

That's the stupidest, most bullshit statement I've ever read from you.

...which is coming from someone who actually suggested that we annihilate Iraq and the Middle East.

I certainly did not.

I merely suggested, in the event of severe military and suicide-bomber resistance, if being nice to the radical terrorist part of the mideast wasn't working, we should scare them by decimating Baghdad (after evacuating civilians).

LMAO!!

After evacuating citizens, we destroy their homes? Great solution.

I think Tyler's point is: as the supposed "good guys" we should strive to make the world a better place, but we should hold our own methods and practices up to a higher level then all of the "bad guys" out there. However the pattern has not held true in the past. We will use any dictator/terrorist leader we need at the time, and just worry about them turning on us later.

No, you're right.

But the fact of the matter is there's no actual need to do what I proposed. That was just a hypothetical in the event of total "arab world" opposition and fierce resistance in Baghdad. If our troops were in serious danger and being nice USA wasn't curbing radical hate, if we needed to scare them...

Of course we could just go to Syria, destroy Hezbollah, and leave...

Oh, I sympathize. In a few moments of barely articulate post-9/11 rage, I suggested turning the Middle East into one big, smoking, atomized crater. It's not something I think we should do, but it certainly felt good to say it at the time. I will say this, though: every time I watch the September 11th events on tape, my urge to kill rises a little more.
