Guest justsoyouknow Report post Posted April 5, 2003 In the hope for spirited discussion, what are you thoughts on Ryan Adams? I personally feel that he is one of the most underrated artists of the current time period. I own all three of his solo albums, and I'm probably going to venture into his Whiskeytown CDs, but I was just wondering what the SMusic (Smart Music) board thought about him. Hopefully there are some other fans out there.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted April 5, 2003 I like him, but I swear he's his own worst enemy. His back-and-forthing on Jack White was both entertaining and pathetic. As for the music, Heartbreaker was a pretty solid album, and Gold was good, if a little too long. I never did pick up Demolition, nor do I have any of the Whiskeytown albums. Guest Anorak Report post Posted April 5, 2003 Whiskeytown's Pneumonia album is kind of a fourth unnoficial Adams solo album because its basically a stripped down solo record in the same vein as Heartbreaker and there's less of a full band sound. I would say its a better and more consistant album than Gold and Demolition. Whiskeytown's stuff is definately worth getting. Their sound mixes louder and slower songs pretty evenly and if you like The Replacements or Wilco you'll love it. Make sure you pick up the 21 track Baseball Park Sessions version of Faithless Street for songs like 'Lo-Fi Tennesse Mountain Angel' and 'Factory Girl'.
