The one and only Akira Taue chokeslam thread

Recommended Posts

Guest Black Tiger

This folder is in need to interesting content, and this topic always generates responses.

I personally think that while not being as nice looking as Big Show's or Kane's chokeslam. Taue's has a certain brutality to it that makes up for it. Watch Taue vs. Hiroshi Hase during the 1999 Summer Action Series and you'll see what I mean. Hase is dead and buried after Taue planted him. Its not as pretty as Kane's but this is/was All Japan Pro Wrestling wer're talking about the most non-bullshit wrestling group in the world.

well there's nothing going on anywhere else on the board...and, having only seen like 3 taue matches (all of them tag matches), i may be able to spout off good ignorant shit to spark fierce debate.

for the most non-bullshit wrestling group in the world, that's a pretty incredible move to put over as any kind of legitimate threat. as in, not credible.

misawa: i'm going to lift you up from a tiger driver position, then drop you straight down on your head!

kobashi: i'm going to put you in a half nelson, lift you up & slam you back on your head!

kawada: i'm going to backdrop you right on your head!

taue: oh yeah, well i'm going to...put my hands around your neck, lift you up a few inches, then kind of slam you down on your back!

misawa: ...

kobashi: ...

kawada: ...

a back body drop would be a more credible threat. at least you get more elevation on a back body drop.

GTD, Misawa, Kobashi, and Kawada rarely used those as finishers, only in big matches. This would be more accurate.

Misawa: I'll spend the whole match throwing elbows, then I'll SPIN and hit another elbow.

Kobashi: I'll use all sorts of nasty suplexs to dump you on your head, then charge you with a lariat.

Kawada: I'll kick you in the face a bunch, then hit a folding power bomb.

Taue: I'll get all medievil and stiff on your ass, then pick you up and chokeslam you as hard as I can on the mat.

What's wrong Chris? No input?

There's only one kind of "input" I'd like to give this thread, and I don't think you really wanted a detailed idea of what that is.

A) This thread isn't going to get any worthwhile responses - it's here because some idiot thought it'd be funny.

B) It's already been talked to death before, and who needs redundant threads?

C) Save the "one and only" bullshit for NHB, where the crowd has an aggregate IQ approaching 50, where you might find someone who thinks that crap is cool or whatever. I come here to avoid this kind of lame-ass content. Post it there if that's what you want. I'd rather skip out on threads that exist so that some can "spout off good ignorant shit to spark fierce debate".

3 strikes, yer out. The world can live without this.

I think the reason Taue's chokeslam feels more brutal, is because he doesn'thave to pretend he's a zombie while he's doing it.

At least Taue's chokeslam looks like it hurts. Unlike Taker's.

Yeah but for Taker (And Sid, for that matter) the move wasn't about trying to make it look brutal, it was more of an aspect of their character. In this case, it was about making the opponant afraid of him. The trash-talking before he puts him up, lifting the guy with one hand, etc. It's supposed to be a reminder of who's in charge, so to speak.

That said, Taker's chokeslam was always better than Taue's. Taker could get people more than three inches into the air, which is always a plus.

With Undertaker's chokeslam, he holds the choke the whole way down, which is also a nice way to helping the guy take less of a hard fall. Taue may not pick him up as high, but he drops him after he's got them up, so the victim takes a much harder bump, which makes the move look more realistic.

If you don't like a thread, don't post in it.

This is Puro, it belongs here.

I wish some of the more "mature" posters could end their constant whinings.

I don't need to see any more fucking comparisons to Undertaker in this folder, considering he doesn't work in Japan.

It's all right, though, since it's about to go poof as soon as Ricky gets my PM.

I'll help in the deletion process.

Am I the only one who finds this fucking funny?

In a nutshell this thread is BT, BR, and MZ having a decent debate on the move and why it is or isn't better. Then you have GTD just being a jackass to draw heat.

Then you have Jubuki and his little sidekick who even copies Jubuki's signiture idea, all crying and whining because they don't like it and Wolverine acting like a fucking third grader threatening to tell the teacher and give them detention. "Its gone as soon as Ricky gets my PM" Great, is Ricky going to put BionicRedneck's name on the board and not give him a peice of candy after recess?

Here is a thought to Jubuki and Jubuki lite. if you don't like the thread DON'T FUCKING POST IN IT! Holy shit, "I come into this folder to get away from lame ass content" If its so lame then just don't post anything and get on with your life, is there anything to it other than taking potshots at Justin Baisden, just because he has an actual following of more than ten people?

You can't always get what you want...

But if you try sometimes...

You might find...

You get what you need.

Is that from a Bret Hart interview in '94?

Tell me you are not serious.

Please, because if that was some incredibly lame joke, it would still not be as pathetic as not knowing the source of that quote.

So that's who he quoted in that interview. I could give a fuck less about the Rolling Stones, so it's not something I was going to remember.

But try to add some worthwhile content to this folder next time, whomever you are. Undertaker this, Mutoh that. Now that's pathetic. Not that you'd know, since it's obvious that you don't have a clue about wrestling.

I have a clue about wrestling. Just not the incredibly obscure joshi crap that about four people here care about.

I mean, Jesus, I don't care if that's all you watch, but you do know that other kinds of wrestling exist, and that most people watch those kinds, and that *GASP* they enjoy them.

I mean you're about to cross the line between elitist snob, and really fucking annoying elitist snob who acts like no other _____ exists except for his kind _____.

Wow. Look at the board. Read what I've written. I've seen stuff from nearly every promotion out there and I've contributed far more to this board within the last couple weeks, than you'll ever do in your life.

What, am I supposed to get upset that you, who I can guarantee has never seen a Joshi match ever, calls it 'crap'? Who gives a shit? You have a lot to learn, kid. It takes time - some people end up understanding wrestling, and others remain marks forever. Enjoy your journey.

pfft some people are never going to check Joshi out no matter how many people tell them how good it is simply because they tend to be closed minded about women putting on good matches, which if it's someone who's been brought up on WWE is understandable, it's their loss

I think you'd be surprised by the size of the following Joshi has Zsaz

Have to say I agree with the "if you don't like the post don't reply to it" sentiment though, would it really have been that hard to press back and then never look again?

That isn't the point. Not that anyone else in this thread is really considering what the point of starting it was, other than me. Thanks, BT - just what this place needed.

Zsasz, please be quiet. Anti-intellectualism plays fine in a frat house; doesn't do so well anywhere else. If you want to sit there and say, at heart, that it's OK to be ignorant, that's fine. Just don't expect anyone else with their head screwed on straight to give a shit about what you say, ever.

I love Akira Taue's chokeslam. I can't imagine how a soul could dislike it.

This topic is done. I'm closing it because:

1) The first time around was plenty for me, thanks. No one's opinions have changed since then, and this folder really doesn't need a problematic thread being re-created just so everyone can give the same opinions on a dead issue.

2) Many of the people "debating" the thread didn't know enough to be properly discussing it back then, and still don't. Again, this is a redundent topic. How many times can one side throw out "Put over by his peers" and "Credible in the eyes of AJPW fans" before it becomes pointless? There is no real arguement here as to whether Taue's chokeslam was a credible finish. More likely, this appears to be a "Who has the best choke slam?" thread, where people discuss which looks best.

3) Since this is basically a "Name your favorite Choke Slam" thread, it doesn't belong in the Puroresu Folder. This ought to have been started in General Wrestling. I'd move it over there, but it's turned into quite a mess, so anyone who wants to discuss this further can start a new thread in General Wrestling.

4) This flaming stuff is getting ridiculous. This isn't intended for all of you, but I think it's worth mentioning since everyone's ideas on board policy might need a little refreshing. I'm not sure how many of you actually read through the rules before you registered here, but flaming, swearing, and vulgarity aren't allowed, unless you're in NHB. I'd like this folder to be a place for logical discussion and debate, not mud-slinging. Insults and personal cheap-shots are bound to happen on message boards, and as long as they're kept civil and the insults are valid ones, I won't complain. Pissing contests are for NHB, PM, or e-mail. I'd hope that most of you are old enough to understand the difference between what's appropriate and what's not. I'll take this to PM now, but I hope I've made it clear where I stand on this.
