Griffey Hurt Again!!

Recommended Posts

Guest Human Fly
CINCINNATI -- Ken Griffey Jr. dislocated his right shoulder while diving for a fly ball Saturday, the second year in a row that the Cincinnati Reds outfielder was hurt in the season's first week.

Griffey grabbed his right shoulder and rolled on the ground in severe pain after diving for a fly ball in the eighth inning of a game against the Chicago Cubs

He left the game immediately and had the shoulder popped back into place by team physician Dr. Timothy Kremchek. Griffey was taken to a hospital for tests to see how much damage was done.

There was no immediate estimate on how long he'll be sidelined.

Griffey turned his back to the infield and tried to run down Paul Bako's drive with the bases loaded and two outs, and the Cubs leading 6-5. He stretched his right arm and dived, but the ball eluded his outstretched glove.

Griffey landed hard on his right side, rolled over, grabbed the shoulder and kicked his legs in pain. He remained on the ground for several minutes, making no attempt to get up, while teammates ran to him. Bako wound up with a triple.

After trainers reached him, Griffey got up and walked out the center field gate next to the Reds' bullpen, holding his right arm carefully.

Injuries have marred his stay in his hometown. Since the Reds obtained him from Seattle in February 2000, Griffey has sustained a series of leg injuries.

He pulled a hamstring in 2000 and tore the same hamstring late in spring training 2001. Last season, he tore a tendon in his right knee after rounding third base in the sixth game of the season.

He has played in only 186 games the last three season and hit 31 homers. His only homer this season left him at 469.

He's the second star to suffer a major shoulder injury this week. The Yankees' Derek Jeter hurt his right shoulder on opening day in a violent collision at third base

I can't believe this, he finally gets his legs taken care of so now what happens? His upper body starts decaying. What is the deal Griffey is in his early 30s not his early 70s.

What a shitty pickup for the Reds that turned out to be.

You said it...We all loved Junior coming in...and now we can't bear to watch him fall prone to injury over and over and over again...

It's amazing...If he had not gotten killed by Injuries...Instead of Sitting at 469...He would be looking down at 600 by now...

A sure fire future Hall of famer just three years ago...Now in Jeopardy of being one of the biggest fallings ever...

What does the pitching have to do with Junior's injury?

he'll make the hall of fame easily, he is only 33, mcgwire went through the same thing in the mid 90's and look at what happened to him. It would be nice if the reds pitchers weren't given up 9 runs a game.

Hold On...GAB is A proverbial Launching Pad...Let's wait till we go on the road before we say they give up 9 a game..

I know Junior's a HOFer but I was merely saying he went from being this "HOFer" to a injured afterthought...

Sweet Mary I had no idea it would be like this. It seems like it's batting practice every inning. If I'm not mistaken no winning team has scored less then 7 runs in a game.

I wasn't watching or at the game today but I can guarantee that when Griffey went down there was a stadium wide groan. Not a groan like "Oh No!" but a "here we go again" groan.

Another thing about Griffey, not only did he go from being a sure fire HOFer but at one time not too long ago he was arguably the best player in the game (arguably), and in the top 5 without a doubt.

Also, my prediction is that Bob Boone will be the first manager fired in MLB this season.

Nah...Cincy will be .500 level all year...Don't read into the first two series at GAB...Wait until we suck on the road before saying Boone will be canned. Cincy wasn't a good home team in the ladt two years anyhow...

Boone will stick for the entire season and likely be canned for 04...

It's more wishful thinking on my part more than anything else. His micro-managing style just gets on my nerves. That's why I'm so pissed that Homer took the Wildman off of the air, he always would talk about how many moves Boone would make in a game.

I'm already looking forward to next year for 2 reasons. 1. Hopefully no Boone 2. No 9 million a year Barry Larkin contract and we can get a pitcher.

Because he whined about playing in Seattle. Whiners get what's coming to them.

"The normal way chafs him motherfucker!"

So? He can tough it out. For that kind of $ I'd wear the same underwear everyday for an entire summer.

Wait, I do that anyway. Nevermind...

Jesus Christ. Sportscenter gets a few offhands remarks, runs them as headlines, and you're branded for life. I still remember when Griffey was every bit as popular as Cal Ripkin.
