Guest Austin3164life Report post Posted March 23, 2002 Hogan being very over right now is saying that people are nostalgic and want to cheer the man once more. I'm sure if he sticks around long enough, the people will realize that his time has come and gone...... Speaking of Austin, is it me, or is he pulling a Bret Hart and leaving at Wrestlemania, and coming back in like 6 months? Probably not, but he has missed two shows so far, and no one has spoken about him since WM.....
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted March 23, 2002 Fun fact: RVD has been in the business longer than HHH.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted March 24, 2002 If you think Hogan was over, could you have imagined the pop if Bret Hart showed up last week?

Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted March 24, 2002 If you think Hogan was over, could you have imagined the pop if Bret Hart showed up last week? i've been at shows in Vancouver where Bret was there, and the pops were fucking sick. If you ever want to hear a REAL pop watch the main event of Canadian Stampede. Bret's team could have started shooting people and they STILL would have been cheered. and that's only a SLIGHT exaggeration.

Guest Report post Posted March 24, 2002 ok, this is my first post here so be gentle, but I think being the most over guy in the wwf for 3 weeks does not make one the most over wrestler ever. Something tells me when Hogan was standing in the middle of the ring at bash at the beach, being pelted with big cardboard coke cups, he did not say to himself "I am totally over, brother". On one hand, the fans went ape shit for him at mania, but on the other hand, it would take a miracle for him to still be working every show by next year's mania. Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted March 24, 2002 dead on call smell the ratings. Hogan isn't the most over wrestler ever. if you really want to talk about a wrestler who has always constantly had fans in the smart and mark communitys than the most over wrestler ever is Ric Flair. there have been various polls done on sites (espn did one i believe) and Flair usually wins. Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted March 24, 2002 Don't know if Hogan is the most overrated or not, but he is the smartest ever. Did you see him play the Rock at WM 18? Anytime they do one of these old legend vs new hot thing, pass the torch ponyloaf it just kills the young guy. Hogan did it to Warrior at WM 6 and he just did it again. The crowd sees Hogan as this sentimental favorite and were going to cheer him no matter what. I just hope he didn't do any damage to Rock's career as a face. No wonder Austin wanted nothing to do with Hogan. He probrably knew what would happen.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted March 24, 2002 wait...doesn't that make Austin the smartest man in wrestling?
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted March 24, 2002 I say a tie. When Austin is a washed up 48 year old sucking away the heat from ME'ers, then he'll get the nod from me.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted March 24, 2002 Unfortunately...Austin can't have the long career like Hogan has had...due to the wear and tare of...you know...actually working... Now that I think about it....Hogan is smarter.
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted March 24, 2002 I think the wwf is basically going to have to throw Hogan out on his ass as he can't put anyone over AT ALL!! The poison really has been injected, hasn't it?
Guest mastermind Report post Posted March 24, 2002 Hogan is the most over ever. I mean seriously. Hulkamania and WrestleMania were one and alike. Someone brought up Hogan's turn at Bash at the Beach. Do you realize how much heat Hogan got for that? That heel heat carried until 1998. The fans CARED to boo Hogan because he was so over as a face. Yes, his face stuff got stale, but he was still seen as Real American to the populace. He turns heel and BAM another boom starts. Now compare this to Austin's heel turn. Fans either didn't care(look at the ratings when he turned heel) or just thought oh look he's being a bad guy again with Vince no big deal. He didn't generate as much EMOTION amongst the masses. To me, that is a sign of someone who HAS/HAD the pulse of the world of wrestling. You can't deny the obvious. Please Ric Flair is over with us, but to the masses he's just an old guy. Sorry, but it's the truth. I mean another deadly sign is what dangerous said. Hogan CAN'T put anyone ever. I mean first Goldberg and now Rock? How many people can you say can turn a WHOLE #### CROWD against Rock. Not even Austin did that in his hometown!
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted March 24, 2002 All your points are on the money, mastermind. I never questioned if Hogan was over. I am not even questioning if he is overrated.(there are others who are WAY overrated) I am just saying Hogan is smart to have put himself in this position and walk out of WM as the most over man in the company. This is the second year in a row the Rock was supposed to be the hero and here he is getting booed for the second year in a row. I believe it has to do with his character being somewhat of an assh*le. Face it, it's hard to really get behind a f*cking jerk. That's how Rock acts. I think HHH is going through the same thing. I just think it would be stupid to turn Rock right now, upcoming movie and all.
Guest mastermind Report post Posted March 24, 2002 Yeah, I know some say Rock should be turned. I don't think that idea is too smart to be honest. He has his movie coming out and even if he didn't the fans would start cheering him in two months time or just won't care. The fans only boo Rock when he's in there with Austin and Hogan. THE TWO BIGGEST DRAWS IN HISTORY. Not anything to sneeze at. I think a problem with Rock is his character isn't really about winning. When it comes down to the nitty gritty Hogan and Austin are seen more as winners and Rock a larger than life comedian. For all those who say he stays over no matter how much he loses I think it's obvious why some fans would put their money on Hogan or Austin in their matches. Rock always loses when he should win. Guest TheMikeSC Report post Posted March 24, 2002 It amazes me how people just have to rip Hogan no matter what. Ummm, people weren't popping for Austin 4 years straight. Pretty much 4 years straight. Did I miss something or didn't Rock rival Austin? You might have not heard Austin sucks, but he didn't have full super pops all these years. At WM X-7, where both men were "faces", Austin was clearly the more populay guy---by a healthy margin. It was reported in some areas like Detroit Rock was getting the bigger reaction prior to WrestleMania 17. When Austin returned in 2000 his pops weren't close to what Hogan has received recently. He was stuck in a program with Rikishi. Listen to the pop he got at Backlash 2000 when, even though out of shape, the crowd went nuts for him. I will admit I will reserve my answer until he gets Stateside. I do remember though that Hogan's appearance on RAW was getting face heat when Rock challenged him and that was after he told the fans to kiss his red and yellow backside. I was saying to myself this could backfire if Hogan is getting chants after cussing out the hulkamaniacs. I think it just extended into Mania. I mean it was also reported people were cheering on RAW when Hogan gave Rock the leg drop and pinned him. I also saw people popping when Hogan ripped his shirt and said the famous whatchya gonna do? line on the last Smackdown before Mania.I see the point about this being nostalgic though. It has to do with respect for Hogan as well amongst the casual fans. I will say it would be pretty interesting to see Hogan and Austin in a promo throwing barbs at each other and who the fans back more. Austin has the advantage with the WHAT craze although it's dying down. Austin also has the advantage in that Hogan's mic skills are nothing to write home about. -=Mike
