As the NBA regular season winds down...

Recommended Posts

Guest Redhawk

There's not too much time left before the playoffs, so with that in mind...

1) Who should win the major awards -- MVP, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, Sixth Man, Best Defender?

2) Of the Clippers' big free agents -- Quentin Richardson, Lamar Odom, Corey Magette, Michael Olowokandi, Elton Brand and Andre Miller -- which two should they try hardest to keep?

3) If the Wizards don't make the playoffs, will Michael Jordan come back for another year?

4) Who do you see playing in the Finals? Who will win?

5) If you don't have the Lakers going, how far will they get?

1. MVP: Tim Duncan....Rookie: Yao Ming....Coach: Larry Brown....Defensive: Ben Wallace

2. I'd keep Brand and Miller myself.

3. If he does, his credibility's down the toilet.

4. Kings and Pistons, with Kings winning.

5. Conference finals, unless they encounter Dallas or Sacramento first.

Who should win the major awards -- MVP, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, Sixth Man, Best Defender?

MVP:Tim Duncan.

Rookie Of The Year: Yao Ming.

COTY: Maurice Cheeks. The award should be rechristened in his honor, for what he's accomplished/prevented already.

Sixth Man: My candidates are Al Harington, Andrei Kirilenko, Malik Rose or a scrappy PG like Jackson or Van Exel. I'll go with Harrington.

Of the Clippers' big free agents -- Quentin Richardson, Lamar Odom, Corey Magette, Michael Olowokandi, Elton Brand and Andre Miller -- which two should they try hardest to keep?

Keep Brand. Allow Odom and Maggette to go without hesitation. Hope that San Antonio lowballs Olowakandi and give a shot at getting Q. IMO, Miller opts for a large contract somewhere else.

If the Wizards don't make the playoffs, will Michael Jordan come back for another year?

No.

Who do you see playing in the Finals? Who will win?

Spurs / Nets, with the Spurs coming out on top.

If you don't have the Lakers going, how far will they get?

Lakers will get the #4 or #5 seed at the end, so they'll match up against (#1) Dallas in the second round. They'll win there, but they'll be too banged up for Conference Finals against San Antonio, and fall one series short.

MVP: Duncan (Garnett, TMAC and Kobe cancel each other out)

COTY: Brown

Could care less about Clips

He won't play but become a *VERY* personal GM

Kings/76ers-Kings in 5.

Finals to Kings in 7.

1. Spurs are going to be #1 in West so give it to Tim Duncan for MVP, Coach Popavich, Malik Rose as 6th Man, Manu Ginobli for Rookie of Year, Ben Wallace as Defender

2. they all will leave, they would be better off playing for the Hawks

3. no

4. Spurs vs jobber

5. 1st round exit

1) Who should win the major awards --

MVP - Garnett

Rookie of the Year - I will say that it will be a tie with both Ming and Stoudamire winning.

Coach of the Year - Isiah Thomas

Sixth Man - Bobby Jackson, I guess.

Best Defender - Ben Wallace

2) Of the Clippers' big free agents -- Elton Brand and Andre Miller

3) If the Wizards don't make the playoffs, will Michael Jordan come back for another year?

No

4) Who do you see playing in the Finals? Who will win?

I will say the Kings against the Pacers with the Kings coming out on top.

5) If you don't have the Lakers going, how far will they get

Depends on their seed. If they have the Kings in the first round, then I see them going out then, if not, then I will say they will go out in the second round.

MVP- Tim Duncan

Rookie of the Year - Yao Ming

Coach of the Year - Rick Carslie - No one does more with less talent

Sixth Man- Earl Boykins- He single handedly won about 8 games for the Warriors.

Best Defender- Ben Wallace

2)My guess is that the Don will only try to keep Elton Brand, every one else will take off. But since I need two, I would try to keep Brand and Olowakandi (athletic centers are a premium in this league)

3) I see Jordon comming back, he will want to end in the playoffs. Expect the Wizards to spend some money to bring in good free agent in the off season.

4) I think the finals will have the Spurs vs Pistons (even though I just read that Wallace might not be able to play to an MCL sprain, an if that is the case, I will take the Nets instead)

5) Depending on who the Lakers end up playing in the first round, second and third. If they play the Spurs or Kings in the first round, they will be eliminated. If they face either team in the second, then that is where they will go down. If it is in the Finals, then that is where it will happen. The Spurs and Kings have shown me that they have no fear of the Lakers, and that could pose a a big problem in the playoffs.

MVP - Garnett

Rookie - Amare

Coach - Carlisle

Sixth - I really have no idea.

Defender - Ben Wallace

2) Clippers shouldn't try to keep any of the free agents. They're not going to compete with them or without them so I hope those players get to leave and join good teams where their talent will be put to good use.

3) Jordan is done. Now that Krause is retired and Jordan has given up on the team he put together in Washington......new Bulls GM?

4) I actually got the title game in the NCAA tourney correct in my bracket even though I don't watch college sports. Yet, I look at the playoff tourney for the NBA that I DO watch and I really have no idea. It's the most wide open I've seen in the past few years. But I'll say Spurs over the Pacers.

5) If the current seeding holds and they meet the Spurs in the first round, they go out in the first round.

Forget all this, the biggest question is whether Donald Sterling will actually resign any of his free agents. According to Sunday's LA Times, the team claims that they will definitely try to sign Odom and Brand.

I believe it when I see it.

As for the awards...

MVP - Duncan

ROTY - Yao

Most Improved - Gilbert Arenas

6th Man - Earl Boykins

Most Disappointing - The Clippers (sigh)

Let me get a stab on this....

MVP 1. Kevin Garnett 2. Tim Duncan 3. Kobe Bryant

Rookie of the Year: Amare Stoudamire (better than Yao Ming)

Coach of the Year: Rick Carslie (number 1 seed with the least talent in the east playoff field.

Sixth Man: Earl Boykins

2. The Clips should keep Brand, Maggette and Odom. Those guys are pretty much the best on the team. The Kandi Man has been an utter dissapointment for a number 1 pick

3. MJ is 99.9 percent sure is going to retire

4. Finals? A classic Pistons-Lakers final.

5. The Lakers won't lose in the playoffs because they still have the BEST tandem in the league and the role players come alive for playoff time. The Lakers are more prepared, seasoned and ready for any type of series. Most of these guys have been playing here since 1997 (Shaq Kobe Fisher Horry Fox) and the rest from the championship teams so they know what to expect in the playoffs. Also they got one of best coaches in basketball history in their corner. I think the only team that can beat the Lakers is the Spurs and they might not meet until the Conference Finals. So in conclusion LAKERS GET THE FOUR-PEAT!!!!!!!!

1. MVP: Kevin Garnett

Rookie of the Year: Close call between Caron Butler, Amare Stodamire and Yao. But I'll say Yao, sure a slight disapointment but he's still ROY.

Coach of The Year: Eric Musselman, here's a guy who took one of the worst teams in basketball and turned them into playoff contenders and helped them get two wins over the Lakers. Plus he did it with pretty much the same amount of talent.

6th Man: Nick Van Exel with Earl Boykins as a close runner up.

Most improved: Ricky Davis, although he's better off on another team then the Cavs. Davis' ego doesn't fit on a young rebuilding team.

Defensive Player of the Year: Ben Wallace bar none.

2. I'd keep Elton Brand and Andre Miller.

3. Yes, I'm almost positive Jordan will retire.

4. I think it'll be Spurs Vs Nets or Pistons with the Spurs winning 4-1. IMO, no one can stop the Spurs at this point.

1. MVP-Garnett, ROY-Stoudemire (fuck Yao), COY-Musselman (I'm a Warrior fan so I'm biased), Sixth Man-Boykins (again biased and no one else off the top of my head), Defender-Wallace.

2. Umm probably Miller and Brand but knowing the Clippers they'll probably keep none of them. Just as well as obviously the current group for all their talent can't play together.

3. He won't and god I hope not. Although with Krause gone from Chicago the Jordan to the Bulls rumors have already started.

4. Kings and Pacers for the moment....Kings win.

5. 1st Round if they get the Spurs, 2nd round if they get the Mavericks but are the #6 seed, West finals if they get the #5 seed and the Mavs get the #1 seed. Essentially whenever they face the Spurs or Kings their gone.

Oh and to add if the Lakers win it all the NBA should fold because the Lakers will prove once and for all the NBA regular season means nothing.

1) MVP- Duncan, no doubt

Rookie of the Year- my heart says Ginobli but it will prolly be Stoudamire.

Coach of the Year- Should be Poppavich. Will prolly go to Don Nelson

Sixth Man- Malik Rose

Best Defender- Ben Wallace

2) Of the Clippers' big free agents -- Quentin Richardson, Lamar Odom, Corey Magette, Michael Olowokandi, Elton Brand and Andre Miller -- which two should they try hardest to keep?

Who cares? it's the Clippers!!!!

3) If the Wizards don't make the playoffs, will Michael Jordan come back for another year?

not with that GM position opening up in Chicago

4) Who do you see playing in the Finals? Who will win?

Hopefully, Spurs vs. Celtics (my dream match-up). Realistically, I could see Spurs vs. Nets

5) If you don't have the Lakers going, how far will they get?

1st round if they face Spurs or Sacramento. 2nd round if they face Dallas in the first.

MVP -- Kevin Garnett, with Duncan, Kobe, and McGrady as runners up.

Rookie -- I could see Yao Ming and Amare Stoudemire getting co-ROY, but I think Yao will edge Amare out.

Coach -- Jerry Sloan. His two best players are 41 and 39 years old, the supporting cast is made up of journeymen and maybe two real athletes (Stevenson and Kirilenko), yet they're going to the playoffs AGAIN. Plus, Sloan's never won a COY,which makes no sense to me.

6th Man -- Bobby Jackson, with Al Harrington, Earl Boykins, Malik Rose and Nick Van Exel as runners up.

Defensive Player -- Ben Wallace. Ron Artest should be a close 2nd, but he won't get any votes due to politics.

If I worked in the Clippers' front office I'd try hardest to keep Elton Brand and Quentin Richardson. Brand is the best combination of talent, conistency and maturity on that team, and Richardson is a talented fan favorite.

Michael Jordan will play in the NBA after this season if the Wizards don't make the playoffs. I don't know when or for whom...but he'll play again.

I want the Pacers to beat the Lakers in the Finals. I think it will be the Lakers beating the 76ers.

1) My MVP is Garnett. Duncan played a hell of a season but I think he has more back up in Parker, Ginobli Jackson, etc...Garnett has Hudson and Szerbiak. Thats about it. Rookie goes to whichever one of Ming and Amarie makes the playoffs. They're both so close in their accomplishments so far, I gotta give it to who ever steps up and helps get his team to the playoffs. Lookin like Amarie for now. Coach is the Piston's guy whos name slips my mind at the moment. Defense is Doug Christie for me, amazing ability to slow down anyone from Bryant to Pierce. Bruce Bowen is a close 2nd. And 6th man...Mark Madsen, fuck it.

2) Just nuke the Clippers franchise and call it a day.

3) No. I think he was too frustrated with his team most of the year. He stopped having fun.

4) Kings in 6 over the Pistons.

5) Depends on who they play in the first round. If its the Kings or Spurs, I say they're dead. If its the Mavs, they roll.

Lakers over it doesn't matter (east can't touch the west)

Lakers will easily defeat Dallas and after the shaq ball incident the Kings shouldn't be a problem. Spurs will give them the toughest challenge (swept them during the regular season). Spurs were 3-1 last year against the Lakers in the regular season then loss 4-1 in the playoffs. Lakers role players are finally starting to play good, just look at the Dallas game from two nights ago (George - 21 points, Horry - 17, both Fox and Fisher - 16) When the role players step up, the Lakers are next to unstoppable. Spurs and Lakers should have a series for the ages in this playoffs in my opinion, with Lakers winning in 7. Only thing that will stop the Lakers is injury or food poisoning (damn Kings from last year).

Well, now that the Wizards are out, I still won't count out seeing MJ return.

The Kings Vs The Sixers
