Guest SP-1 Report post Posted April 8, 2003 The new trailer is out and I have to say I'm fairly excited about this one. Orlando Bloom and Johnny F'n Depp as pirates with ghoul pirates for enemies? I'm so there.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted April 8, 2003 I didn't really enjoy it at Disney World... Now, if they made a "Space Mountain", whooo! BOY! would that be great.
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2003 They're making a "Haunted Mansion" movie too. Haunted Mansion the ride freakin rules!
Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted April 8, 2003 The Space Mountain movie would only be good if Ric Flair was in it.

LivingLegendGaryColeman 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2003 They're making a "Haunted Mansion" movie too. Haunted Mansion the ride freakin rules! yeah, I hadn't heard anything on Haunted Mansion, so I looked it up on IMDB.com today and it says it stars Eddie Murphy and is about a ghost making a man realize the importance of his family... Carribean looks promising. When I first heard of these when I saw how "great" the Country Bears was (although I was not as offended by it as others)

Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2003 I haven't seen all of the new trailer yet, but I was pretty psyched for it when I saw the little teaser and saw that Geoffrey f'n Rush is in it along with Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp (master of the strange role). Should be good.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted April 8, 2003 DUDE! Haunted Mansion was my favourite fucking ride. Before I went there the second time, for a month or two, all I dreamt about was the Haunted Mansion. This was in 1992 and I never went back, but fuck, that ride ruled. ..What were we talking aboot again?? Oh, pirates.. I liked Waterfreakinworld so I can't see this being that bad... but I probably won't go to the theatre to see it.
Guest spiny norman Report post Posted April 8, 2003 I actually did a work experience thing for a work at the movie studio while they were filming "Pirates Of The Carribean", so I know all the story and stuff. It looked pretty fun and good and stuff. I'm looking forward to seeing it.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted April 8, 2003 Has there ever been a really good pirate movie? I can't think of one off the top of my head.
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted April 8, 2003 Hook. But that may not be considered a "Pirate" movie. POTC looks like a good one. Hopefully it will be.
Guest starvenger Report post Posted April 8, 2003 The thing is that it's a Disney movie based on a RIDE, so I'm a bit pessimistic about it. Speaking of the ride, did they get rid of the "pirates chasing the wenches" scenes? I'd heard that they did stuff like that.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted April 8, 2003 This looks ridiculously great. Pirates, zombies, and Johnny Depp hamming it up in full-on pirate gear. I will be there with bells on.
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted April 8, 2003 If nothing else, I expect to be entertained by something a tad over the top. It looks like a good popcorn movie. And it's JOHNNY F'N DEPP as a Pirate with Legolas himself tagging along. I see no wrong. Now, if only Colin Farrell would show up.
Guest Crucifixio Jones Report post Posted April 8, 2003 What was the pirate movie with Geena Davis? There's probably a reason that I can't remember and that reason is that it ABSOLUTELY SUCKED. Depp is the master of not only making odd career choices but of making movies, that to be honest, don't make a ton of money at the box officce. Unless alot of kids turn up and make it a success like Kangeroo Jack, then you can add this to the list. Right now I'm feeling this is gonna be more bad than good. Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted April 8, 2003 Whoa... when Country Bears came out I added it to my joke "must-see list" (that spot is currently occupied by Agent Cody Banks), and was pissed off when I heard Disney was making movies based on Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion (particularly since the Haunted Mansion is up there with Alice in Wonderland as my favorite Disneyland attraction). My rationale was that Disney were such unoriginal cheap bastards that now they're making movies off their own old rides to revitalize them for cheap promotion, no worries about any licensing, and a bump in merchandise. That being said... I'm impressed by the Pirates of the Caribbean trailer. It's been said before, but the addition of pirate ghosts/skeletons makes any story interesting, and they actually look really well done (as opposed to some cheap CGI or a watered-down version for fear of alienating a family audience). However, the fact of the matter is that it's still a Disney release, under the Disney banner, and that'll leave some doubt in my mind of it being cut to ribbons/nowhere near as "hardcore" as the trailer, simply because Disney has to aim for a family audience, and pirates aren't exactly family characters. Anyone know if the movie's been rated yet? I'm not one of those "a horror movie ain't shit if it's rated PG" types, however... I'm still uncertain. When's the release date on this sucker anyway? Guest SP-1 Report post Posted April 9, 2003 I'm not sure it's really aimed at being a horror movie. Indiana Jones encoutered some strange, supernatural things but those were adventure movies. I tend to see POTC in the same light. But i could be wrong, it could very well be a kiddies horror movie. Which would suck. Maybe. But then, while Depp may not be the most commercially successful actor, money does not = talent and the movies I've seen him in have all been weird but good. LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW was, IMO, great, but still pulled off being a quirky adventure/horror movie. To me, anyway.
Guest Crucifixio Jones Report post Posted April 9, 2003 I'm not at all equating money with talent. I think we all know how talented Depp is and how critically acclaimed his body of work has been. I just think that the man should look to actually get PAID for what he does and honestly what he chooses to work on doesn't really do that. Most of them only do average business in theaters. LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2003 Is Pirates a Disney release?? I know Haunted Mansion is, but the movie posters I've seen for Pirates don't say disney.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted April 9, 2003 Well the casting for Pirates gives me some solid hope that it won't be totally Disneyfied. If they were going for a Disneyfied "don't offend families" kids movie approach I doubt Johnny Depp would've been cast in the starring role.
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted April 9, 2003 Almost makes you wonder how much Depp commands for a role. He may be one of those types that worries more about enjoying his work than getting paid, though. *shrug* Even if it is, Disneyfied to a degree, it may not be all that bad. Was Hook Disney? I can't remember.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted April 9, 2003 Hook was Spielberg, I think, not Disney. It's difficult for me to infer whether this is aimed more at being a "horror"-type movie or a "family"-type movie. Gore Verbinski's coming off of The Ring, but he's also done Mouse Hunt. Although you're right, it probably will be more of a "supernatural elements" rather than full-blown horror movie. But if not, "horror for kids" isn't all bad if done properly... I still remember "Are You Afraid of the Dark?"

Guest Lethargic Report post Posted April 9, 2003 Don't let him fool you. Johnny Depp may not be in Armageddon every year but he's still one of the most recognized and respected actors around, he gets paid. He's not hurting for money. Look at his last few movies... From Hell, Blow, Chocolat, Before Night Falls, Man Who Cried, Sleepy Hollow, Astronaut's Wife, The Ninth Gate. While 2 or 3 of these may be small movies, the rest are all big time studio releases. Plus he has a big budget Peter Pan in the works, not to mention the Once Upon a Time in Mexico. The guy's not exactly poor. I'd say he gets at least 2.5 per movie for the studio stuff.
