Fast Food specials that are for "limited time only

Recommended Posts

I swear nothing is more annoying as a food special being added to a restaurant's lineup and the ads don't tell you that its for "A LIMITED TIME ONLY!"

Here is my example:

I was hungry for last month's Subway Buffalo Chicken Sandwich one day and ordered one at a local Subway. Anyway the guy F'd up the order badly, I almost got a "Foot-long" Chicken Sandwich, which turned into a "foot long" chicken breast sandwich with lettuce, tomato, not melted cheese and some Buffalo sauce. Basically a crappy version of what should have been the sandwich. (Not to mention I lost my spot in line even as I took three steps from it to grab an Iced Tea and not only did the employee not take notice that I returned but so did the guy behind me telling him his order. I mean REALLY)

Anyway a few days later I stop by a different Subway and ask for a Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, to which the guy behind the counter said "NO MORE!" and pointed to the new month's special.

Now am I wrong to assume if I DON'T hear the following words in a commerical "Now for a limited time only" then that product has become part of the everyday lineup at a restaurant?

Yes, I consider you to be wrong for assuming that.

If they make a big deal about some special new thing in the commercials you should assume that it's for a "limited time only".

You're only fooling yourself if you don't assume that.

Okay FINE! I guess I'm stupid to think a place like Subway was "above" the usual fast food marketers because of their "noterity" of not being like a McDonalds or Burger King

BTW I've seen some Fast Pizza places advertize brand new products and have them on the menu permanatly

Well yes I know sometimes when they advertise something it's a permanent menu item, but until you know that you shouldn't assume it.

All fast food places are evil...Subway included

Must be a regional thing, because I just ate a Buffalo chicken Subway sub like, 2 days ago.

Here's the fucking secret. As an ex subway employee, subway hasn't really changed their stuff very much in a long long time. I've been having Buffalo chicken subs or what have you for a long time. They advertise combinations of sandwiches that you could have had a long time ago to make it sound like they are innovative because they have enough ingredients that they can do this.

Now honestly they do add some new stuff, like a few of their new sauces. And that new cheese bread as well, although it might be like the Parmisagn Oregano that they canceled because it was too difficult to bake correctly (it always fell because the cheese on top was too heavy)

In conclusion, I see them removing their cheese bread soon so if you want it, go get it. Otherwise, for crying out loud, they don't really change their menu...

Then that guy was an asshole then for stating and I quote: "NO BUFFALO CHICKEN! NO MORE!" and pointing to that new cheese bread ad, leaving me even more pissed about the time before.

I really didn't feel like screaming back "Do you have chicken? Do you have some of that Frank's Hot Cyanne Pepper Sauce or some variation of hot sauce? Then MAKE ME A FUCKING BUFFALO STYLE CHICKEN SANDWICH! On a regular sub bread with lettuce, tomato and melted swiss!" I mean if the guy was going to be that much of a dick in the way he said that the menu was changed I'm not making a scene of it, had the ad for the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich still had been up THEN I'd probably say something but I don't think the guy was in the mood to make a "specially made" sandwich for anyone
