Vince bitches Regal out, but Regal informs Vince that Linda was the one who changed the matches. Vince says that no more changes will be made tonight and badmouths Linda, as Linda walks into the room. Vince unsuccessfully tries to apologize. Linda says she did it for the fans in the UK Vince makes sure that Linda did not change the handicap main event, before showing Linda the door. Vince proceeds to toss stuff off Regal's desk after Linda leaves. Vince then asks Regal if he is at risk to Foot in Mouth Disease, then leaves disgusted. Eddy bails, and is hit by a baseball slide from the Grandmaster. Sexay dances instead of going outside, which gives Eddy enough time to recover and attack him from behind. HHH insults both the English & the Undertaker. -The Radicalz & Terri vs. The Holly Cousins & Molly Holly: But wait...Terri informs us that she cannot get proper wrestling attire, so that the match will be regular tag match instead. Molly goes after Terri, and they roll around on the mat. With the distraction, Saturn nails the Moss Covered Three Handled Family Gredenza on Crash for the 3 count. Match was quite good when the women weren't involved. ** WINNERS: The Radicalz via Pinfall at 5:37 -Clips of Regal touring London, appearing on a variety of British TV shows, talking with the fans, etc. Regal is quite popular in England. Some fans even go as far as telling American fans to stop besmirching him. -Backstage in Regal's Office. Regal brags about how he will not let the people of England down in his match with Chris Jericho, and about how large of a reaction he will get when he enters the arena. -Clips of Smackdown, 2 weeks ago. Big Show demolishes Test backstage. -Big Show vs. Test: This match was supposed to be cancelled by Linda. Big Show gets the mic, and calls Test a coward. Short version, he wants the match with Test. Test comes out, just because he hates me and wants me to suffer. Big Show attacks as Test is coming through the ropes. They trade punches, before Test gets the advantage. It doesn't last long as Show hits a side slam. Show then attacks Test's ribs, which he has taped. He might as well just have a sign that says 'hit me here'. The refs call the match soon after. It was awful, but it wasn't really a match, so no rating. -Big Show gets on the mic again, and calls out anyone from the back. Test hits the Big Boot with Show holding the chair, and Bradshaw hits the Clothesline from Hell for the 3. The less said about this match the better. DUD WINNER: Bradshaw via Pinfall at 3:20 -Backstage with the Coach & WWF Champion Steve Austin. Austin questions the stupidy of the Undertaker for accepting a handicap match with the Two Man Power Trip. Austin says that the decade of destruction will end in this piece of crap country. Elimination Match: Edge & Christian vs. X-Factor vs. The Dudley Boyz vs. The Hardy Boyz Remember when the WWF had enough teams to have these 4 way elimination matches? Bubba starts off with Credible. They trade punches to start. Credible gets whipped into the corner. Bubba with a hiptoss, followed by a scoop slam. Credible tags the European Champion, Matt Hardy. Christian tags in to face him. Matt hits a shoulder block, but gets nailed with a Christian dropkick. Clothesline by Matt, as Jeff makes the tag. The Hardys double team Christian. Christian escapes and makes the tag to Edge. Edge hammers away at Jeff. Crossbody by Jeff gets 2. Edge hits an elbow and tags in X-Pac. He allows Jeff to take back the advantage with a flying headscissors. Jeff tags in Matt. More double teaming from the Hardys. You know, for a face team, the Hardys sure do cheat a lot. Matt gets a 2 count on X-Pac. X-Pac fakes a knee injury, which distracts the ref long enough for Credible to crotch Matt in the corner. X-Pac with a shoulder thrust into the corner. Bronco Buster follows. Tag to Credible. Credible delivers a couple of stomps to Matt, and then tags X-Pac back in. What was the point in taking in there, Justin? X-Factor misses the double clothesline, and get one of their own from Matt Hardy. Matt makes the tag to Jeff, who cleans house on X-Factor. Lowblow to X-Pac. Jeff then takes out Edge & Christian. That's just poor sportsmanship. Matt comes in, and the Hardys hit Poetry in Motion on Credible. Edge & Christian try to come in, but get attacked by the Dudleys. Poetry in Motion on X-Pac misses, but Matt manages to hit the Twist of Fate. Albert tries to interfere, but splashes X-Pac instead. Credible accidently takes out Albert, as Jeff hits the Swanton Bomb. The Hardys eliminate X-Factor at 5:42. Albert & Credible drag Matt out of the ring, and clobber him on the outside. Edge & Christian try to dropkick the table, but the Dudleys lift it causing E&C to spill out on to the floor. D'Von tosses Christian back in. They set up for the 3D, as Edge pulls out D'Von. Rhyno comes in out of nowhere. GORE GORE GORE!!! Edge covers Bubba for the win. These teams are so familiar with each other that they could probably have a good blindfold match. This is no exception. ***1/4 WINNERS: Edge & Christian via Pinfall at 13:20 -Rhyno sets up the table, but is attacked by Spike. Rhyno gets 3Dd through the table. -Clips of the Insurrextion Press Conference. Michael Cole introduces such superstars as Bradshaw, William Regal, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley & Linda McMahon. They have an auction for charity, and Q&A session with the superstars. One guy asks if Steph is a bitch or if she just plays one on TV. Steph threatens to slap whoever wrote it, and Bradshaw helpfully chimes in by saying it was Michael Cole. Steph gives him a pretty hard slap too. -Back at the arena, Heyman is laughing like crazy at Cole. -Backstage with Coach & Kurt Angle. Angle complains about Benoit stealing his medals. Short interview. -Right To Censor, well Ivory & Richards, interrupt the next match. Richards is ashamed at Britain, specifically the nude women in the local newspaper. Richards offers to be the next Winston Churchill or Martin Luther King Jr. Getting to the point, apparently Richards has recieved word from Regal that the lady's Battle Royal has been cancelled. RTC, stupidly, brings out the participants. They are Jackie, Trish Stratus & Lita. Ivory berates the three of them. Of course the women attack as soon as Ivory turns her back. They toss Richards, and strip Ivory. Ivory runs off. Richards gets back in. Trish puts the moves on Steven, who seems like he's going to accept, when Trish lowblows him. The women then strip Richards, and beat him up some more. This segment died a quick death, as the RTC was at the end. -Clips of the Angle/Benoit feud, and what a great feud it was. 2 out of 3 falls: Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle: Angle demands his Gold Medals before the match. Angle grabs the ropes, and bails. Back in, as Angle goes after the leg and Benoit catches him in a bodyscissors. Angle escapes and gets the Angle Lock, but Benoit gets to the ropes. Angle pulls Benoit back, but Benoit is able to roll and send Angle to the outside. Great stuff thus far. Angle gets frustrated and tries to punch Benoit, but even that goes poorly. Irish whip, but Angle catches Benoit with a rollover for 2. Benoit counters and goes for the Crossface. Again Angle escapes. Benoit chases Angle around, which allows Angle to jump him when they get back inside. Angle plants Benoit on the turnbuckle. Snap suplex by Angle gets 1. Belly to Belly Suplex by Angle. Another one. Angle tries again, but Benoit counters with his own. Benoit with some chops, and multiple snap suplexes. Benoit drops Angle on the ropes, and then slams him back in face first. Benoit hits the Multi-Germans, and the Diving Headbutt to finish Angle. Second Fall: Angle nails Benoit right off the break period. Angle tosses Benoit into the ring steps. Good psychology by Angle. The wrestling didn't work, so try brawling. Super Belly to Belly Suplex by Angle, but only a two count. Belly to back also gets two. Angle with a chinlock. Benoit fights back, but walks into another Belly to Belly Suplex, for two. Benoit gets two by countering a belly to back suplex. Angle immediately gets the advantage back. Irish whip, and Angle puts his head down, allowing Benoit to get a small package for two. They trade shots in the corner. Angle goes to the eyes, but Benoit gets a DDT. Benoit escapes an Angle Slam, and goes for the Multi-Germans again. But this time Angle moves out of the way of the Diving Headbutt. Angle gets the Angle Lock, but is countered into the Crossface. Benoit, of course, pulls the medals out of his tights and puts them around his neck. -Backstage in Austin's lockeroom, the Two Man Power Trip are ordering Debra around. Debra doesn't take it too well. -Clips of the Jericho/Regal feud. A stark contrast to Benoit/Angle, this involved mainly poor skits and drag queens. Don't ask. Queen's Cup Match: William Regal vs. Chris Jericho: Winner gets the Queen's Cup, a large trophy that looks very much like the Stanley Cup. Regal, to my surprise, actually gets booed. Much different than the way that they were acting earlier. Jericho works over the arm to start, but is reversed by Regal. They reverse hammerlocks. Regal tries to toss Jericho, but he lands on the apron. Top Rope Chop, ala Steamboat, by Jericho. Brawl outside goes poorly for Regal. Flying Crossbody gets two for Jericho. Some weak brawling outside, before he tosses Jericho back in. Jericho gets a sunset flip off the ropes for two. Regal with a clothesline for two. Back to the cobra clutch. Jericho fights back, but misses the charge to the corner. Enziguri by Jericho. Clothesline by Jericho. Missile Dropkick by Jericho gets two. Flying forearm by Jericho. Jericho goes for a bulldog, the setup move for the Lionsault, but Regal counters and goes for the Regal Clothes. Jericho blocks it, hits the bulldog, but Regal has his knees up for the Lionsault. Powerbomb by Regal gets two. Regal goes for a German Suplex, but Jericho rolls him up and puts on the Walls of Jericho for the tap out. Good old school match, but not for everyone. This is the match they should have had at Wrestlemania XVII. *** WINNER: Chris Jericho via Submission at 14:46 -Regal, to no surprise, beats up Jericho with the Queen's Cup after the match. -Clips of the Two Man Power Trip, and their feud with the Brothers of Destruction. It also goes over Kane's injury at the hands of the Power Trip. WWF Title Handicap Match: The Two Man Power Trip vs. The Undertaker: Undertaker has to beat Austin to win the title. HHH is the IC Champ. Austin the World Champ. They are also the Tag Champs. Taker clears the ring with a chair. HHH attacks Taker from behind. The Power Trip work over Taker in the corner. At some point Taker starts no selling, and taking out both. Taker tosses HHH. He goes for a chokeslam on Austin, but is stopped by Hunter. Taker rams HHH into the steps. Taker & Trip brawl up the aisle. Austin comes to help. Austin goes for a piledriver on the ramp, but is blocked by Taker. Taker beats up HHH some more. They fight back to the ringside area. Back in, and Austin chokes out Taker with help from the ropes. Austin gets a couple of quick two counts. HHH tags in. Taker starts no selling his offense. Trip gets a sleeper, and uses the ropes for leverage. Trip is reminding me of the old Hunter Hearst Helmsley in this match. It isn't a good thing. Taker starts no selling again and hits a jumping clothesline. Austin gets the tag. Sleeper by Austin, which Taker reverses into his own. Austin escapes and hits a suplex. Tag to HHH. Trip goes up top, and gets a boot to the face. Austin comes in and gets pounded by Taker. Hunter comes in and gets beat up as well. The action spills outside, and Taker catches HHH coming off the top and chokeslams him through the table. Austin & Taker are back in the ring. Austin tries for the Stunner, but is blocked and gets kicked in the face. Lowblow stops the chokeslam. Irish whip reversal, and Taker hits the Chokeslam. HHH saves Austin at two. Taker counters a Pedigree and slingshots HHH into Austin. Kneedrop by HHH is no sold by Taker, but a clothesline takes him down. And here comes Vince, right on cue. Vince accidently hits HHH with a chair, and is chokeslamed by Taker. Chokeslam on HHH gets three. But since he didn't pin Austin he didn't win the title. If you hate Triple H, this is the match for you. Watch as Taker no sells all of his offense and humiliates him in front of a PPV audience. For everyone else, this match blew. 1/2* WINNER: The Undertaker via Pinfall on HHH at 17:12, Steve Austin retains the WWF Title -After the match, Taker chokeslams Austin and then beats up HHH some more with a chair. BOTTOM LINE: Two good matches and one excellent match out of seven, is good enough for me. Just make sure to press stop after the Regal match. Thumbs up. Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted February 7, 2002 I said it before...and I'll say it again. Good review of an event that I (and probably a lot of people) haven't seen. We really need to review some other stuff...don't we Rasmus? This is the third forum that we've peddled our wares on. At least you have 2...I have but the one. I really wish that Benoit/Angle match had taken place at Backlash...
Guest Tony149 Report post Posted February 7, 2002 Good review. I agree about having the Angle/Benoit match at Backlash. Their match at Backlash seemed to bore the crowd. They only popped for the finish. I belive that was the 30 minute submission match.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted February 7, 2002 It was. Then they had a best of 3 falls match at Judgement day. In that match the falls had stipulations like the third fall was a ladder match...and one of the first 2 was submission... I'd rather have seen the 2/3 falls from insurrection on one of those 2 shows, though. Watching someone win 2 straight falls...is down right shocking.
Guest Tony149 Report post Posted February 7, 2002 Yeah, most 2 out of 3 falls go to the 3rd fall. Very rare that one of those matches end with 2 straight falls.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted February 7, 2002 It usually only goes two straight falls, unless one guy is a jobber. That normally only happens when one guy has a 2 out of 3 falls match coming up on PPV.
