Guest Downhome Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 First off, I'm pretty handy when it comes to fixing things, so if there is a guide that tells how to fix this or something, just let me know. My PS2 is playing music CDs perfectly fine, DVDs perfectly fine, and DVDRom games perfectly fine, my only problem... ...it isn't playing purple back discs, I get the DRE (and with Contra I get a sort of grinding sound). Is this a cleaning issue, a voltage issue, or what? Thanks guys, it's appriciated! Sincerely, ...Downhome...
Guest Downhome Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Bah, I just called Sony and they said they would fix it for me for free. I'm just going to do that instead of fix it myself. Besides, I need to be away from my PS2 for a while so I can FINALLY beat Zelda and Metroid on my GC!
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Too late, but http://stormpages.com/lee/1ps2clean.html
Guest Youth N Asia Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Oh, I guess that makes sense. I got my PS2 back in Nov of 2001, thankfully I've had no problems with it *knocks on wood*

Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 The last time I had a problem with a Nintendo made console (Outside of my game boy screen getting screwed up after 8 years) was back when you would get the blue screen on the NES and had to blow on the cartridges. Didn't have any problems with my SNES, no problems with the N64 and so far, after a year and a half, no problems with the Gamecube. I have a friend who had an original PS1 that stopped working normally due to overheating issues after about 2 years. He had to put the thing upside down and blow a small fan on it to keep it working..

When I say it died, it DIED. The entire hard drive folded, and he lost everything he had saved to it, had to have it totally replaced.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Saw the movie and read the book. If I'm hexed I'll axe-murder you, man.

[Gypsy]You bad for trying to put whammy on other PS2 owners, White Man from Town[/Gypsy]. Actually, my PS2 isn't reading half my DVD's nowadays. Still plays games fine, just had trouble with movies. I got it first day and only other problem I've had with it is a broken cooling fan after about 3 months that Sony fixed for free, so I consider myself lucky.
Guest Downhome Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 I believe they fix ALL DRE's for free now, after a ton of people threatend to sue them over charging for it being done.
Guest Karnage Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 My XBOX went all hippie-colours(Games, DVDs, even the dashboard was fucked) on me a month ago and I got it repaired by Microsoft. Pretty good service since they send a guy from Purolator to pick it up for you and deliver it back after repairing.

You mean you get it for free? EXCUSE ME? WTF? My disc laser was cracked and I shelled out $120 to the fuckers to get it replaced (the whole PS2)... GOD DAMNED SON OF A BITCH~! I WANT MY MONEY BACK~! ...I'm so going to look into this. I'm not happy at all.
Guest Downhome Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 That's what they, and many others, have been telling me, yeah.
