Guest Downhome Report post Posted April 9, 2003 I was up late the other night, and I saw someone on one of the news stations (I forget which one) that just, I dunno, seemed very weird. There was a General, or whatever, at the front lines shouting orders to his troops and the such, with live gunfire going all about and a reporter had the nerve to actually try to interview him under such circumstances. The guy basicly pushed the reporter out of the way, and didn't really acknowledge him at all. I know it's NOTHING alike, but this just reminded me of how they used to try to interview the players and coaches durring XFL games. I'm perfectly fine with the reporters being there in the war and the such, that's great. It really helps get information to us all very quickly. I am NOT however fine with what I saw. I dunno, this just rubbed me the wrong way, that's all. Sincerely, ...Downhome...

Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted April 9, 2003 Was this Bob Arnot of MSNBC? He has this really nifty way of reporting by interviewing guys right in the middle of the fight, when they're busy trying to not die. I keep expecting to hear him suddently say "WHOA! That guy's head just exploded!"

Andy Warhol was dead on with the 15 minutes of fame prediction.

Indeed, it's really going to get out of hand (not that it hasn't already), if something isn't done about it soon. If this were truly like the WWE, Norman Schwarzkopf would have been back by now. Or, if it was really like the XFL, the reporter would deride the general's leadership abilities, and the network would run promos for both of them leading up to the next battle. Oh, and there would be cheerleaders too.
Guest Tyler McClelland Report post Posted April 9, 2003 There ARE cheerleaders. They're called Republicans. *HUGE RIMSHOT!!!*
Guest DrTom Report post Posted April 9, 2003 Y'know, not every situation in the world needs to be compared to a Vince McMahon venture. I know this is a wrestling board and all, but comparing most things to men in tights pretending to beat each other up tends to trivialize matters. Just saying. Guest DrTom Report post Posted April 9, 2003 not all liberals rooted for the 'other team' And I never said they did. But there ARE some out there, and I'd much rather have a rah-rah Let's-go-America type of chap than some moral relativist ninny who's going to whine and cry while basically hoping we fail and our soldiers die. Those people can go straight to hell and be anally violated with flaming pitchforks.
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted April 9, 2003 Y'know, not every situation in the world needs to be compared to a Vince McMahon venture. You know, in the very beginning, I said he needed to start up a 24 hour war network with helmet cams and Matrix-style bullet time in firefights. It isn't a completely wacko comparison. I heard someone else say something similar (thought without naming McMahon) on another board I go to where we've been making humor and fun out of the war for the past few weeks as our way of dealing with (idolizing the Iraqi bridge in that shot of Baghdad, becoming fans of various reporters, etc)
Guest Tyler McClelland Report post Posted April 9, 2003 Actually, the comment was made in complete jest. As you probably have seen (and if you haven't, you're blind_, I'm completely cheering for our troops and hoping this ends quickly with as few casualties as possible. So, even though I know it *probably* wasn't aimed at me, y'know... I've gotta save face... because I'm just that damned egotistical. Or something.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted April 10, 2003 It was aimed at those celebrities and elected officials who seem to have concluded that we're the worst country on earth.
