Guest fazzle Report post Posted April 10, 2003 Right now Survivor is the only one on that I watch.
Guest red_file Report post Posted April 10, 2003 No. I enjoy fiction in my entertainments. For the past few years I've been wondering about how reality t.v. shows are going to be looked at years from now. A while back I read an article where the writer believe that in a few years seventy percent of t.v. shows would be reality based, as they're cheaper to make than actual shows and get about the same ratings; that scares me. On the other hand, I think about the mid-90s when it looked like girl-power shows were the only type of thing being produced, and that didn't follow through all that well. As the reality shows get more and more mean spirited, I keep hoping that they're just getting it out of their system.
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted April 10, 2003 I watch exactly 1 minute of American Idol. My tape for 24 starts at 8:59, so I get the automatic minute that I generally fast forward through. I've never seen the appeal in watching fake reality and stupid people get ahead in life by being on a modified game show.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted April 10, 2003 Nope. I only watch sitcom reruns and wrestling on TV these days. Right now there is way too many crap reality shows for me to even want to turn on the TV to find something new to watch.
Guest Will Scarlet Report post Posted April 10, 2003 I am not into them at all. I never saw the big deal about them.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted April 10, 2003 I hate all of those "Get Married" on tv shows and MTV shows but find the Osbornes & Anna Nichole to be funny. I prefer comedies over the drama ones.
Guest Ravenbomb Report post Posted April 11, 2003 no, but I'm liking Comedy Central's 'Get Real' commercials
Guest starvenger Report post Posted April 11, 2003 I'm into Survivor, Amazing Race, Trading Spaces and Iron Chef, and I've been watching this season of American Idol as well.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted April 11, 2003 Trading Spaces and Iron Chef, Those shouldn't really be considered "reality TV". I liked Murder In Small Town X...It had what real reality TV lacks...a script
Guest starvenger Report post Posted April 11, 2003 Trading Spaces and Iron Chef, Those shouldn't really be considered "reality TV". I liked Murder In Small Town X...It had what real reality TV lacks...a script Why not? Almost everything on TLC is a reality series. Funny story I heard about Murder in Small Town X in that they were always doing rewrites WHILE the show was going on, since even the producers didn't know who the murderer was gonna be until about the second or third last ep. Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted April 11, 2003 Amazing Race is probably my favorite reality show. I've also been watching Real World/Road Rules Battle of the Sexes. I quit Survivor two seasons ago. Anybody know if the Amazing Race is coming back for a fourth season?

Funny story I heard about Murder in Small Town X in that they were always doing rewrites WHILE the show was going on, since even the producers didn't know who the murderer was gonna be until about the second or third last ep. They're a different sort of reality show. Technically they're reality shows, but they're not what people call "reality tv". Yes I know that doesn't make much sense, but hopefully someone can "get" what I mean. When you say Trading Spaces most people will think "interior decorating show". When you say Iron Chef most people will think "cooking compitition show". They aren't going to look at them and think "Reality TV" which is what they call stuff like Survivor. Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted April 11, 2003 I don't watch them. I heard Conan O' Brian say that 60 someodd percent of Americans were sick of reality tv, so perhaps the worm has turned.
Guest HollywoodSpikeJenkins Report post Posted April 11, 2003 Murder in Small Town X was the only one I really liked. Damn those terrorists. Robbing us of a Murder in Small Town X 2.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted April 11, 2003 The only one I even halfway watch is Nashville Star, and that's in part because I am obsessed with the gal Miranda Lambert on there, and I somewhat know Buddy Jewell personally.
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted April 11, 2003 I was sorta into Survivor during that first season, back when it was the in thing to watch because it was kinda fun to discuss it with people the next day. And like MaxPower27, I sometimes watch that last minute or so of American Idol, but only because I don't want to miss a second of 24 (I get upset if I miss the beeping at the beginning). And if reality dating shows count, I used to be really into Blind Date, but I just surf the net during that timeslot nowadays. It was great though a few years ago, when UPN9 had Blind Date, Voyager, then 2 NewsRadios in a row. You know what I never understood? The nationwide obsession with Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, and all the other prime-time imitators. Um, it's a fucking game show. What exactly was the difference between this and the regular afternoon game shows other than the swirly lights and cheesy-ass music? I can't believe that was actually appointment television for some people.
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted April 11, 2003 If I want to watch fake reality TV, I'll watch Maury Povich. "I'm 13, I dropped outta school. I smoke weed, and drink every weekend, but I don't care, and I'm'a have me a baby, no matter what my momma says" ^^^ that was on today. I love those episodes. Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted April 11, 2003 The only ones I was into were The Mole, Murder in Small Town X, and Boot Camp. I would have liked to have seen both back again. I don't count the celebrity Boot Camp thing, cause that's stupid. For one they didn't have to do the shit near as long, and they also weren't as motivated as the real contestants. Same with The Mole...everyone tried to be funny and it killed it. I heard the guy who won Murder in Small Town X died in the 9-11 attacks. Is that true? Guest EQ Report post Posted April 11, 2003 I briefly got into Survivor (the end of the first one and then Survivor II), but then after that, I lost all interest in Reality TV (Tough Enough included) and I think it's all pretty dumb looking back on it. I can't believe that was actually appointment television for some people. Forgot about the Mole. It's a great concept, and kinda fun to watch. Millionaire was fine when it was once a week, but - ABC being the king of overkill - when they put it on 4 times a week it just got really annoying since there was just too much of Regis looking smug. Now that I think about it I'd lump Iron Chef more into a "sports entertainment" grouping than reality TV since it's pretty much the culinary version of American Gladiators. The way I look at Trading Spaces is this: It features real people doing something you wouldn't normally see them doing (i.e. renovating a room in someone else's house) so it could be considered 'reality tv'. Survivor, Amazing Race et al I consdier more of a 'reality gameshow', since the end result is that you're trying to win a big prize at the end. It's this and the whole 'reality dating' thing that most people would call 'reality tv'. Stuff like Maury Povich and Springer used to have a 'realness' to it, but now they've become self-parodies with actors and such to the point where it's more theatresports than 'trash talk tv'. Guest fazzle Report post Posted April 11, 2003 Anybody know if the Amazing Race is coming back for a fourth season? Well, as far as I know, it's been filmed and ready to go for a while now. It was supposed to start alongside Survivor, but CBS keeps pushing it back for whatever reason. So, chances are it'll either become a summer series and air alongside Big Brother, or it'll just stay there unused. I'd be pissed if I was the racers too, since they don't get their winnings until after the show airs.

Rest assured, it WILL be back.

That's the good thing about Amazing Race. It's real people, not just 20-somethings hoping to get into acting. And, damn, I forgot about Boot Camp. That rocked until the bullshit ending. Guest Mad Dog Report post Posted April 11, 2003 I have never watched any of these reality shows. I get sick of seeing the same show with a change or two trying to be passed off as something new. Actually come to think of it I don't watch much of anything that's new these days.
