Guest Andy Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 When Slaughter returned to the WWF, was he a face to begin with or did he go straight into heel mode? How did it all come about? Anyone? Cheers - A.
Guest Si82 Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 I think he was a heel straight away. Might have been on The Brother Love Show, but I'm not totally sure.
Guest Frankie Williams Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 He was a heel right off the bat. They showed a bunch of vignettes with him bashing USA and sympathizing with Iraq. I believe his frist live apperance was at the above mentioned Brother Love show at SummerSlam 90.
Guest Choken One Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 Yeah did it take people time to remember him? I still find it odd that He gets a HUGE reaction these days...
Guest tank_abbott Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 He was on a national stage with the AWA and was a top indy attraction from 1985-89. He left the AWA due to lack of money earned and the fact that Verne promised him World title reigns that never came to fruition.
cawthon777 Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 Did it take people time to remember him? Do we forget one of the biggest cartoon shows of the late 80s / early 90s - GI Joe?
Guest dreamer420 Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 I don't find it odd that he still draws huge pops. He is a wrestler that every fan old and new is aware of and he always gets a nice nostalga pop.
Guest Your Olympic Hero Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 Even after it happened, it's still hard to imagine World Champion Sgt. Slaughter.
Guest Andy Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 Do we forget one of the biggest cartoon shows of the late 80s / early 90s - GI Joe? Actually, it was this that got me into wrestling in the first place. Cheers - A.
Guest RepoManRules Posted April 18, 2003 Report Posted April 18, 2003 Slaughter first debuted as a heel on SummerSlam 90 on The Brother Love Show.

Actually the Iraq stuff came around November, at first he was just portrayed as an over-zealous sadistic American who couldn't stand that the fans embraced "a commie" like Nikoli Volkof. He talked about America being soft and weak. Then he gained Gen. Adnan and started villifying Hussein.

It's true that Adnan didn't arrive until the fall but I believe Slaughter did mention Iraq at Summer Slam - as Desert Shield had just begun.

From Scott Keith's rant: - Brother Love re-introduces us to Sgt. Slaughter, repackaged as the Iraqi sympathizing traitor. What a classy guy that Vince McMahon is. The run did, however, give me prime material for Netcop Busts with the ultra-lame ATOMIC NOOGIE OF DOOM that he used as a finisher, so it's not all bad. Just most of it.
